NYT: A War We Might Just Win

I just had to post this, I mean coming from the New York Times? I am shocked!!

New York Times:

A War We Just Might Win

VIEWED from Iraq, where we just spent eight days meeting with American and Iraqi military and civilian personnel, the political debate in Washington is surreal. The Bush administration has over four years lost essentially all credibility. Yet now the administration’s critics, in part as a result, seem unaware of the significant changes taking place.

Here is the most important thing Americans need to understand: We are finally getting somewhere in Iraq, at least in military terms. As two analysts who have harshly criticized the Bush administration’s miserable handling of Iraq, we were surprised by the gains we saw and the potential to produce not necessarily “victory” but a sustainable stability that both we and the Iraqis could live with.

After the furnace-like heat, the first thing you notice when you land in Baghdad is the morale of our troops. In previous trips to Iraq we often found American troops angry and frustrated — many sensed they had the wrong strategy, were using the wrong tactics and were risking their lives in pursuit of an approach that could not work.

Today, morale is high. The soldiers and marines told us they feel that they now have a superb commander in Gen. David Petraeus; they are confident in his strategy, they see real results, and they feel now they have the numbers needed to make a real difference.

Everywhere, Army and Marine units were focused on securing the Iraqi population, working with Iraqi security units, creating new political and economic arrangements at the local level and providing basic services — electricity, fuel, clean water and sanitation — to the people. Yet in each place, operations had been appropriately tailored to the specific needs of the community. As a result, civilian fatality rates are down roughly a third since the surge began — though they remain very high, underscoring how much more still needs to be done.

In Ramadi, for example, we talked with an outstanding Marine captain whose company was living in harmony in a complex with a (largely Sunni) Iraqi police company and a (largely Shiite) Iraqi Army unit. He and his men had built an Arab-style living room, where he met with the local Sunni sheiks — all formerly allies of Al Qaeda and other jihadist groups — who were now competing to secure his friendship.

In Baghdad’s Ghazaliya neighborhood, which has seen some of the worst sectarian combat, we walked a street slowly coming back to life with stores and shoppers. The Sunni residents were unhappy with the nearby police checkpoint, where Shiite officers reportedly abused them, but they seemed genuinely happy with the American soldiers and a mostly Kurdish Iraqi Army company patrolling the street. The local Sunni militia even had agreed to confine itself to its compound once the Americans and Iraqi units arrived.

We traveled to the northern cities of Tal Afar and Mosul. This is an ethnically rich area, with large numbers of Sunni Arabs, Kurds and Turkmens. American troop levels in both cities now number only in the hundreds because the Iraqis have stepped up to the plate. Reliable police officers man the checkpoints in the cities, while Iraqi Army troops cover the countryside. A local mayor told us his greatest fear was an overly rapid American departure from Iraq. All across the country, the dependability of Iraqi security forces over the long term remains a major question mark.

But for now, things look much better than before. American advisers told us that many of the corrupt and sectarian Iraqi commanders who once infested the force have been removed. The American high command assesses that more than three-quarters of the Iraqi Army battalion commanders in Baghdad are now reliable partners (at least for as long as American forces remain in Iraq).

In addition, far more Iraqi units are well integrated in terms of ethnicity and religion. The Iraqi Army’s highly effective Third Infantry Division started out as overwhelmingly Kurdish in 2005. Today, it is 45 percent Shiite, 28 percent Kurdish, and 27 percent Sunni

IRAQ WINS ASIAN CUP!!!!!!

Iraq Defy Odds To Win Asian Cup

Iraq completed one of sport's great fairytales by beating Saudi Arabia 1-0 in the Asian Cup final on Sunday to provide a rare moment for celebration in their war-torn homeland.

The Saudis had been bidding to become the first four-times winners of the tournament but Iraq, riding a wave of global sentiment, upset the hot-favourites for a rare slice of sporting glory.

Iraqi captain Younis Mahmoud scored the winner in the 71st minute when he climbed above the defence at the far post and headed a perfectly-weighted corner from Hawar Mulla Mohammed into the Saudi net.

When the final whistle sounded, the Iraq players collapsed to the ground in a mixture of shock and an unbridled emotion, kissing the turf and embracing each other after their country's finest sporting moment.

Saudi Arabia were outplayed by an Iraqi team riding high on a wave of national support.

The Iraqis created a string of chances, only to be denied by sloppy finishing and extraordinary saves from Saudi goalkeeper Yasser Al Mosailem.

Saudi Arabia had been the best attacking team in the tournament, scoring 12 goals on their way to the final, but could not find a way past the Iraqis, who had the best defence in the competition, conceding just two goals in six matches.

Few people had given Iraq any chance of winning the tournament after a haphazard preparation brought about by the war at home and facing opponents who were appearing in their sixth final in 23 years.

Iraqi's Celebrate Soccer Win

Iraqis Celebrate Soccer Win In Streets

A carload of soccer fans wave the Iraqi flag in the Shiite enclave of Sadr City in Baghdad, Iraq after Iraq defeated Vietnam 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup in Bangkok, Thailand, Saturday, July 21, 2007, providing a welcome relief from the daily violence facing Iraqis. Iraq, having snapped a run of three successive exits at the quarterfinal stage, will next play the winner of Sunday's quarterfinal between Iran and South Korea in Kuala Lumpur.

BAGHDAD -- One Sunni man drove 30 minutes through the dangerous streets of Baghdad to watch the soccer game with his Shiite friends whom he hadn't seen in months.

A 40-year-old Shiite couldn't contain his tears when he joined three Sunni friends who used to play on a local soccer team with him in a local coffee shop to watch Iraq face off against Vietnam in the Asian Cup quarterfinals on Saturday.

They weren't disappointed as Iraq won 2-0 to advance to the semifinals for the first time since 1976, causing hundreds of people from across the sectarian divide to overcome fears of violence and take to the streets in a spontaneous celebration.

Men of all ages waved Iraqi flags and did a jig in the streets, while others jumped on top of cars and rode around, horns honking.

Iraqis said Sunday the jubilation over the victory showed they can come together despite Al-Qaeda insurgents.

"None of our politicians could bring us under this flag like our national soccer team did. I wish that politicians could take a lesson from our team, which is made up of Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds who worked together regardless of their backgrounds and won," Abdul-Rahman Abdul-Hassan said.

Abdul-Hassan, a 40-year-old Shiite education ministry worker who lives in the northern Baghdad neighborhood of Kazimiyah, joined three Sunni friends watching the game in a coffee shop. He said it was the first time he had seen his former soccer teammates in some two years because they had fled the predominantly Shiite area due to Al-Qaeda insurgents.

"Ahmed, Naji and Abdul-Karim were there with us," the father of three said, giving only the first names of his friends. "We kissed and hugged each other and recalled our days when we were part of the local soccer team in Kazimiyah and how we were playing in an organized fashion regardless of our religious and ethnic affiliations."

Sami Talib, a 54-year-old retired teacher who is a Shiite living in western Baghdad, agreed.

"The Iraqi soccer team made us happy despite all of our deep sorrow," he said. "The win unified Iraqis and uncovered their real core ... I hope our politicians do the same and put aside their political disputes to win also and achieve the security and stability in our beloved country."

Salim Alwan, a 30-year-old Sunni, drove about half an hour to the predominantly Shiite Zafaraniyah area to watch the game with Shiite friends whom he hadn't seen for half a year, having only spoken with them on the phone because of Al-Qaeda insurgents.

Marwan Ahmed, a 23-year-old Sunni tailor in the southern Iraqi city of Basra, called Saturday "the most beautiful day in Iraq since the fall of Saddam."

He said people from a variety of religious backgrounds gathered in a casino to watch the game and the revelry went well past midnight.

"All the people at the casino congratulated each other, even those who didn't know each other. I felt like this team helped clean our hearts from hatred as all were thinking only of Iraq and nothing else."

"The politicians should learn from and see the joy on the Iraqi streets when our soccer team won ... and all of us realized the national unity of Iraqis," said Salim Abdullah of the Sunni Iraqi Accordance Front, the largest Sunni bloc in parliament. "But the difficult question is whether the Iraqi politicians can play as one team, regardless of results?"

Well Way to go Iraqi Soccer Team!! And to think those in Congress would begrudge the Iraqi's a chance to be free, have Soccer matches, and would be willing to let Al-Qaeda take over that Country and slaughter everybody in it, and turn it into one huge Terrorist haven! Congress is insane.

Democrats Worst Nightmare Comes True

Bush to undergo 'routine' colonoscopy

VICE PRESIDENT DICK CHENEY TO BE SWORN IN AS 'PRESIDENT'

US President George W. Bush will undergo a "routine colonoscopy" at the Camp David retreat on Saturday, temporarily ceding his powers to Vice President Dick Cheney, the White House said Friday.
Cheney will serve as acting president until such time as Bush, who will be under anesthesia, says he is ready to resume his duties, presidential spokesman Tony Snow told reporters.

"The president has had no symptoms" of cancer, said Snow, who noted that Bush had been scheduled for such an examination since undergoing a colonoscopy in June 2002.

Here Comes The Fence!!

Work on Texas border wall to begin soon: Chertoff

Construction on a border wall in southern Texas is expected to begin by this autumn, despite strong local opposition, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said in an interview published on Thursday.

Chertoff told the Houston Chronicle the federal government "can't rule out" using powers of eminent domain to seize land for the wall that is intended to stem the flow of illegal immigrants entering the United States from Mexico.

In heavily Hispanic southern Texas, where cultural and economic ties to Mexico run deep, local officials, business groups and environmentalists have spoken out against the wall as unnecessary and unwanted.

But Chertoff said national security was at stake, so the project will move ahead shortly.

"I expect we'll be doing some construction in Texas this fiscal year," he said, referring to the government fiscal year ending September 30.

Local officials said recently they had been told the Homeland Security department plans to have 153 miles of wall in place in Texas by the end of 2008.

While locals may be consulted on the type of fence constructed, they will not have veto power over whether the wall will be built, Chertoff said.

"Because the fence is not only to protect the border communities, it's to protect the country," he said.

Construction on the wall already has begun in Arizona, Chertoff said. Washington aims to have "operational control" of the border by 2013 by building the 700-mile (1,120-km) wall along parts of the frontier and creating a "virtual fence" in desert areas with drones, sensors, cameras, satellite technology and vehicle barriers.

Democrats Iraq Surrender Bill Defeated In Slumber Party In Congress

After All-Night Debate, Senate Rejects Measure To Bring Troops Home From Iraq

WASHINGTON — The Senate rejected a plan Wednesday to bring home U.S. troops from Iraq by early next year after spending an all-night session debating whether to demand President Bush change the mission.

The 52-47 vote fell short of the 60 votes needed to cut off debate and move toward passage. Four RINO Republicans voted with the Democrats, but only one new backer emerged after the 24-hour Democrat-orchestrated talkathon: Susan Collins of Maine who is seeking re-election next year. She joined three previously known Republicans supporting a troop withdrawal plan: Sens. Olympia Snowe of Maine, Chuck Hagel of Nebraska and Gordon Smith of Oregon.

Connecticut independent Sen. Joe Lieberman voted against the troop withdrawal plan. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who strongly supports the withdrawal approach, voted no as a technical move that allows him, under Senate rules, to bring the troop withdrawal plan back to a vote at a later date.

After the vote, Reid temporarily pulled the defense authorization bill that also includes pay raises for service members, missile defense programming, rules on habeas corpus rights for Guantanamo Bay detainees, equipment development plans and other policies that help shape the military spending bill for the coming fiscal year.

Reid blamed Republicans for stalling forward motion.

Boy Harry Reid and Boy's are going to need a bit of the bubbly tonight. Hey Reid dont froget to Invite Teddy Kennedy!

"We will do everything in our power to change course in Iraq. We will do everything in our power to pass the defense authorization bill. Why? Because we must," Reid said.

But Republicans argued that pulling the bill proves Democrats are only interested in Iraq, not the military overall. As Reid tried to move on to other issues, including homeland security and education authorization, GOP lawmakers objected, saying that the Senate should stay on defense authorization.

Calling it a "colossal waste of time," Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., said the previous 24-hours of debate had been an "indignity" for the Senate, but the defense authorization package is still necessary.

The amendment to the defense authorization bill offered by Sens. Carl Levin, D-Mich., and Jack Reed, D-R.I., called for combat troops to be out of Iraq by April 8, 2008, Thousands of troops would have been left behind for other missions, such as fighting Al Qaeda terrorists in that country.

"Just about everybody agrees there's no military solution to Iraq," Levin said during the debate. If Republicans get their way and block this change in mission, "We will be denied the opportunity to vote on an issue that just about every American has strong feelings on."

Senate Democrats had staged an all-night debate, complete with cots for lawmakers to sleep off the Senate floor, in a dramatic attempt to wear down Republicans who refuse to vote to begin to bring troops home by fall.

Republicans responded with a yawn — agreeing to stay around and respond to any votes that might be scheduled around-the-clock but remaining steadfast in their opposition to the Democrats' anti-war legislation.

Labeled a publicity stunt by Republicans, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said the debate ended up "substituting our amateur theatrics for statesmanship."

"This is nonsense," said Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska.

Added Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., of his Democratic colleagues: "I bet I can stay up longer than they can."

During debate, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said Levin's bill was unclear and wouldn't accomplish what Levin said it would do, and he said the president's security plan should be given until September to see if it works.

"Yesterday, I characterized the Democratic leadership's decision to hold us here through the night as a theatrical display more worthy of Hollywood than Washington. Indeed, anyone who watched it unfold might have thought they were tuning into an episode of 'The Twilight Zone,' " McConnell said.

As the Senate prepared to vote, nearly all the members were seated quietly, and none of the usual ruckus was going on during the vote. A few lawmakers could be seen whispering in conversations of twos and threes.

Throughout the night, the audience for the speeches was sparse despite Reid pushing through a motion on a 41-37 roll-call vote that instructed the Senate sergeant-at-arms to "request the attendance of absent senators" in an effort to keep them near the chamber. Having made his point, Reid than announced there would be no further votes before 5 a.m. EDT.

Thus, most senators got a chance for a few hours of shuteye even while a handful of their colleagues took turns droning on through the night with floor speeches. There was no indication how aggressively the sergeant-at-arms had been in carrying out his official instructions to keep members near the chamber — or whether he was insisting that they be awake.

As the vote was being taken, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice walked over to the Senate side of Capitol Hill where she was to lobby lawmakers on Bush's Iraq policy.

Rice's plans included spending up to five hours in the morning and early afternoon in group and private meetings in both the Senate and House. The focus would be Iraq and other foreign policy issues, including the Middle East, the official said.

While the issue was momentous — a war more than four years in duration, costing more than 3,600 U.S. troops their lives — the proceedings were thick with politics.

MoveOn.org, the anti-war group, announced plans for more than 130 events around the country to coincide with the Senate debate, part of an effort to pressure Republicans into allowing a final vote on the legislation. A candlelight vigil and rally across the street from the Capitol was prominent among them, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., among those attending.

Democrat's Force All Night Bash Bush Fest On Iraq

Well here we go again. These Nutball Democrats cant even wait until September For General Patreaus Report, they have to push the "War Is Lost" Propaganda machine all night long AT OUR EXPENSE! We have already seen encouraging signs that the Troop Surge is working and it's only been a few weeks, but these Democrats have lost thier minds. That is the only conclusion I can come up with, they are so far gone, so far left, so invested in defeat they are gone to us forever. Out to lunch, Gone. And they are being ORDERED to Bash Bush all night long on TV. Way to go Democrat's! Hand Al-Queada more victories, they are watching you, you know, suck up to the enemy!. And destroy the Troops morale so your invest in Defeat can be complete! The Democrats have NO plan for the National Security of THIS Country at all. This Congress is a sad joke. And here's proof:

Democrats Ordered To Bash Bush On TV

Leaders are instructing Democratic lawmakers to blitz their states with anti-Bush messages as the Senate gears up for an all-night debate on Iraq withdrawal, according to an internal memo provided to The Politico by a Democratic official.

“We need every Senator’s help throughout the next two days to amplify our message and highlight Republican obstructionism,” says the memo from the Senate Democratic Communications Center, part of the office of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.). “This is a caucus-wide effort and your help is needed.”

A companion memo for Senate Republicans accuses Democrats of pulling a “stunt” – a word you can count on hearing as a mantra from the GOP. Watch to see if White House Press Secretary Tony Snow uses it.

After the Senate session starts this morning, it is not scheduled to adjourn until Wednesday night. CNN is already showing the cots for the round-the clock debate. The Politico’s John Bresnahan and Daniel W. Reilly have the background here.

The memo from the Senate Republican Communications Center, part of the office of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), calls attention to the fact that the all-night session coincides with evening rallies sponsored by the liberal group MoveOn.org, which is giving supporters instructions on how to “Host a Counter-Filibuster to End the War.”

(UPDATE - MoveOn.org Political Action says in a news release this morning: “Members of MoveOn will hold more than 130 ‘counter-filibusters’ Tuesday evening in cities and districts across the country … . MoveOn members will read letters from Iraq war veterans and their families that call on Congress to bring the troops home soon.”)

In additional to the “publicity stunt” angle, Republicans will stress competence. A Senate Republican leadership aide e-mails: “We’re happy to debate all night if they want, but they’re not going to accomplish anything in the extra seven hours tonight that they haven’t accomplished in the last seven months. Lame.”

Campaigns and political parties often provide sample messages that supporters can repeat in media appearances. The Democratic memo includes this just-add-water message template for Democratic senators to propagate: “President Bush has proven beyond any doubt that he won’t listen to the Congress or the American people unless he is forced to. While some Senate Republicans might not want to change course in Iraq, it does not gives them the right to block an up or down vote on legislation supported by a majority of the Congress and the American people.”

The memo says Senate Democrats are coordinating with their House counterparts to produce an echo effect during floor speeches in the other chamber. Under a section called, “Amplifying Our Message to Force a Change Of Course in Iraq,” the memo gives this overview:

“Senate Democrats will tape TV feeds and actualities back to their home states.”

“Outside groups will hold a 'call to action' event Tuesday night to call on Republicans to end their Iraq filibuster.”

“Iraq veterans will make visits to Senate offices asking Republican Senators to allow an up or down vote on the Levin-Reed Amendment.”

“Center for American Progress will live-blog the all night session.”

“Senate Democrats will conduct interviews on national cable and radio.”

“The Steering and Outreach Committee will release a video of Iraq veterans and military families calling for a change of course in Iraq.”

PROGRESS IS BEING MADE IN IRAQ/THE SURGE IS WORKING

First of all Congradulations TROOPS!!! You are the greatest Military in the world.

Second of all Thank You and it's about time PRESIDENT BUSH!

Third, Can you IDIOT'S in Congress SHUT THE F*** UP UNTIL SEPTEMBER???

WASHINGTON — U.S. military and diplomatic officials gave the Iraqi government a satisfactory rating on eight of 18 political and security benchmarks, a mixed rating on two and an unsatisfactory rating on eight benchmarks in a White House report prepared for Congress.

The interim progress report out Thursday — a second one due in September — says progress in Iraq has been good on key security areas such as the deployment of Iraqi forces in Baghdad, the establishment of joint security stations in Baghdad and the increased capability and independence of Iraqi military units as well as a few economic and political matters.

Unsatisfactory progress was cited in a number of political benchmarks, including the passage of a hydrocarbon law, a debaathification statute and electoral reforms. The report also points out challenges of disarming militias and ensuring full Iraqi government control of security operations in Baghdad neighborhoods.

President Bush addressed reporters on Thursday morning, saying that he would take recommendations from commanders on the ground and consult with Congress, but would not bend to those who want to cut and run. He noted that last fall, Anbar province was reported in the media to be all but lost. Today, violence is down and the situation has changed dramatically.

"Those who believe that the battle in Iraq is lost will likely point to the unsatisfactory performance on some of the political benchmarks. Those of us who believe the battle in Iraq can and must be won see the satisfactory performance on several of the security benchmarks as a cause for optimism," Bush said.

He said he was sending Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Defense Secretary Robert Gates to the Middle East in August.

White House officials emphasize this is an interim report to measure progress in Iraq, and they continue to place emphasis on the September report, which will include the comments and recommendations of Gen. David Petraeus, head of Multinational Forces in Iraq, and U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker.

Officials say the report shows that more satisfactory evaluations were given on the security benchmarks as opposed to the political ones, which was to be expected because the strategy was designed to emphasize security first.

Leading into the troop surge that began early this year, the belief was that progress on security, if possible, would help political reconciliation and allow progress in that arena.

The 25-page report, which measures benchmarks laid out by Congress in a funding bill passed earlier this year, says the security situation in Iraq "remains complex and extremely challenging."

"As a result of increased offensive operations, Coalition and Iraqi Forces have sustained increased attacks in Iraq, particularly Baghdad, Diyala and Salah ad Din. Tough fighting should be expected through the summer," the report states.

The report says that Al Qaeda in Iraq has shown "resiliency" with its ability to pull off mass-casualty attacks, largely through vehicle-based bombings, but the report also says that the number of those types of attacks decreased in May and June.

In the report, the administration accused Syria of supplying as many as 50 to 80 suicide bombers per month for Al Qaeda in Iraq. It also said Iran continues to fund extremist groups.

Officials say the decrease could be a result of the troop surge, and "additional U.S. forces into these areas allows us to better combat AQI havens."

The report also predicts heavier attacks in September "in an effort to influence U.S. domestic opinion about sustained U.S. engagement in Iraq." Congress has set its sights on the September report as the to make definitive decisions on the course of the Iraq war.

"When we start drawing down our forces in Iraq, it will (be) because our military commanders say the conditions on the ground are right, not because pollsters say it'll be good politics," Bush said.

"The real debate over Iraq is between those who think the fight is lost or not worth the cost and those who believe the fight can be won, and that, as difficult as the fight is, the costs of defeat would be far higher. I believe we can succeed in Iraq, and I know we must," he said.

Expectations for the report were set low earlier this week when news leaked that the Iraqis would fail to meet most if not all benchmarks. With the bar set so low, Democratic lawmakers as well as some Republicans began debating a proposal to pull out most of the U.S. troops in Iraq by April 2008.

Weekly Standard Publisher Bill Kristol said he hoped that lawmakers wanted to win the war in Iraq, especially since the benchmarks they created are artificial. Devised in Washington, D.C., they measure such things as pieces of legislation to be passed by Iraq's Parliament.

"The Democratic Congress hasn't exactly met its benchmarks," Kristol told FOX News. "What's happening on the ground is quite encouraging. I don't want to overstate it, it's a war ... but in the real world in Iraq, as opposed to the artificial benchmark war in Washington, Iraq is getting better."

The administration's report referred repeatedly to the Iraq Study Group that issued a report last winter that drew widespread praise in Congress. The bipartisan panel said Bush should start handing off the combat mission to the Iraqi forces and pave the way for a drawdown of U.S. forces in 2008. However, it also declared that it may be necessary to surge troops for a while.

"While all of those conditions have not yet been met, and the new strategy is still in its early stages, there are some encouraging signs that should, over time, point the way to a more normalized and sustainable level of U.S. engagement in Iraq, with a decreasing number of U.S. combat forces increasingly focused on a core set of missions, such as those set out by the bipartisan Iraq Study Group," the report states.

So Progress IS being made in Iraq. Is it progressing as fast as Congress want's it to? No. But it is Progressing. There is no doubt the Troop Surge IS working. But Congress continues to moan continuously that it isnt, and the full force has only been in Country 3 weeks! And Congress is screaming that the Surge isnt working NOW? September is a way's off yet dolts! It is time for Congress to shut the hell up and leave this war to the Generals on the ground, the Troops and the President. Keep the fact's coming Mr. President!!

Way To Go Pakistan!!/Battle For Red Mosque

Pakistan Rebel Mosque Leader Killed

The leader of the rebel mosque being stormed by Commandos in Islamabad has been killed, according to the Pakistan government.

Abdul Rashid GhaziAbdul Rashid Ghazi is said to have died in heavy fighting at the Lal Masjid compound.

Javed Iqbal Cheema, spokesman for the Interior Ministry, confirmed Ghazi's death, saying he died in a gunbattle alongside militants in the basement of a religious school linked to the mosque.

He said the cleric's body was still lying in the compound, and that "battle hardened" militants were defending themselves.

The fighting has already left some 50 militants and eight soldiers dead.

Commandos stormed the facility before dawn when last-ditch efforts to negotiate a surrender failed.

More than 13 hours later, troops were still trying to root out the defenders who are reportedly armed with rocket-launchers and machine guns.

Army spokesman General Waheed Arshad said: "Militants are taking positions in almost every room, they're fighting from room-to-room, they have positions in the basement."

"There are women and children who are in the complex and we are taking a step-by-step approach to ensure there's no collateral damage unnecessarily," he added.

A witness said those inside the compound were under "massive bombing and gunfire. This is indiscriminate killing ... There are dead bodies everywhere".

Pakistani troops at the siege a city official said as many as 50 women and 27 children have got out of the facility. It was unclear how many hostages were still being held.

A further 51 militants have reportedly surrendered or been captured.

Sky News producer Chiade O'Shea, in Islamabad, said militants planted booby-traps, as they retreated through the compound.

She added troops were using dynamite to blast their way into some of the rooms where defenders had fortified doors.

The commandos moved in a week after the outbreak of fighting between security forces and supporters of hard-line clerics at the mosque.

The religious leaders had tried to impose Taliban-style rule in the capital through a six-month campaign of kidnappings and threats.

With every Victory comes a price I suppose. Let us not forget how really MAD Al-Queada will be over this and let us not forget Pakistan has "The Bomb", so we better brace ourselves for something bad to happen after this Victory in the Global War On Terror. It is just so sweet every time one of these Radical Islamo Nutballs goes down. Boy if the entire world got onboard with beating this Barbaric enemy, we could have this whole thing over in a year or two.

YOU CAN BE REPLACED!

Congress Returns, Ready To Battle Bush

Here we go again! Let's Battle Bush. He's the real enemy isnt he? Not Al-Queada, not Radical Islam, not Nutball in Iran or Nutball In Venezeula, NO! It's President Bush we must battle according to Congress!! What the hell is wrong with these people? We are in the middle of a war and our own Congress want's to battle our own President? Here is a snip of what our Congress is back and up to:

WASHINGTON - Congressmen returning from their Independence Day break are ready for battle with the White House, with Democrats decrying President Bush's commutation of former aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby's prison sentence and fighting Bush's latest claim of executive privilege.
Both events occurred around Congress' vacation, inflaming an intense battle between Democrats and Bush over his use of executive power. There was relatively high tension on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue as majority Democrats—and increasing numbers of Republicans—challenged Bush's Iraq war policy.

Rest Of Story Here, Yadda Yadda Yadda

And if this isnt enough more of our Backstabbing Republicans are letting themselves get talked into not supporting our Troops or our President by the Retreat-In-Defeat Democrats!

Judd Gregg R-NH 202-224-3324

Pete Domenici R-NM 202-224-6621

John Warner R-VA 202-224-2023

Dick Lugar R-IN 202-224-4814

Lamar Alexander R-TN 202-224-4944

Chuck Hagel R-NE 202-224-3254

Olympia Snowe R-ME 202-224-5344

Susan Collins R-ME 202-224-2523

Remember these faces!! And here's a snip of thier nutball rhetoric:

Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, who helped lead the charge earlier this year against Democratic efforts to oppose Bush's troop buildup, said: "We don't seem to be making a lot of progress."

Rest Of Story Here, Yadda Yadda Yadda

Gee Judd, ya think you could wait till September before you give your assinine assesment? I think General Patreaus knows alot more about what the hell is going on, on the ground in Iraq than YOU do!

Same thing with Domenici. How about supporting our Troops and wait till the assessment in September, """SEPTEMBER""", before you sniveling little RINO'S add your Two Cent's! Yes that's right I'm going after the RINO Republican's too, and they can be replaced just as easy as anyone else up for re-election next year! How about with some non-whining Republicans? How about oh just for the hell of it let's support our Troops, and let the Generals on the ground in Iraq handle this war? And how about us fighting the real enemies of this Country instead of our own President? What to much to ask? Who has the power? WE DO!!!!!

White House Fires Back At The Clinton's

White House Criticizes Clintons

WASHINGTON - The White House on Thursday made fun of former President Clinton and his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, for criticizing President Bush's decision to erase the prison sentence of former aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.
"I don't know what Arkansan is for chutzpah, but this is a gigantic case of it," presidential spokesman Tony Snow said.

Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., has scheduled hearings on Bush's commutation of Libby's 2 1/2-year sentence. We all knew this was coming lol

"Well, fine, knock himself out," Snow said of Conyers. "I mean, perfectly happy. And while he's at it, why doesn't he look at January 20th, 2001?"

In the closing hours of his presidency, Clinton pardoned 140 people, including fugitive financier Marc Rich.

The former president tried to draw a distinction between the pardons he granted, and Bush's decision to commute Libby's 30-month sentence in the CIA leak case.

"I think there are guidelines for what happens when somebody is convicted," Clinton told a radio interviewer Tuesday. "You've got to understand, this is consistent with their philosophy; they believe that they should be able to do what they want to do, and that the law is a minor obstacle." Oh like you Slick Willie?

Sen. Clinton, seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, said the Libby decision "was clearly an effort to protect the White House. ... There isn't any doubt now, what we know is that Libby was carrying out the implicit or explicit wishes of the vice president, or maybe the president as well, in the further effort to stifle dissent." Is this chic insane or what?

Former Vice President Al Gore said he found the Bush decision "disappointing" and said he did not think it was comparable to Clinton's pardons. We all know what a dissapointment Al Gore has been.

"It's different because in this case the person involved is charged with activities that involved knowledge of what his superiors in the White House did," Gore said on NBC's "Today" show Thursday. Yeah right, Libby didnt even leak anyone's name to begin with.

Snow also tried to clear up confusion about Libby's probation. While commuting Libby's sentence in terms of prison time, Bush left in place his two years of supervised release. But supervised release—a form of probation—is only available to people who have served prison time. Without prison, it's unclear what happens next.

Snow said the White House view was this: "You treat it as if he has already served the 30 months, and probation kicks in. Obviously, the sentencing judge will figure out precisely how that works."

U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton, earlier this week, said the law "does not appear to contemplate a situation in which a defendant may be placed under supervised release without first completing a term of incarceration."

He gave Libby's attorneys and Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald until Monday to respond.

Well it's about time!! Former President Clinton critizing President Bush over giving Libby Clemency? When Clinton gave 140 Pardons through out his term? Let's see Slick Willie gave Hillary's brother one for money laundering, Clinton gave his own brother one, Susan McDoogle, Mark Rich, etc., Isnt this a bit like the pot calling the kettle black? President Bush has used his Pardon and Clemency power what a few times? And he has every right to do so. And to top it all off John Conyers D-MICH has the audacity to want an investigation into this LMAO! Well I knew that was coming! Like Tony Snow said: "Knock Yourself Out Conyers"!
