HILLARY CLINTON MOVES CLOSER TO ANSWERING FOR FRAUD
Hillary is named as a defendant in a civil law suit in California brought by Peter Paul, the largest single campaign contributor to her 2000 Senatorial campaign. Paul has turned from a close associate of Bill and Hillary Clinton who underwrote the “Hollywood Salute to President Clinton” in 2000, to a whistle blower exposing the corruption and lies that were an underpinning of Hillary’s election to the Senate.
Hillary Clinton is desperately trying to avoid being put under oath and forced to testify about her involvement in the 2000 fundraiser for her Senatorial Campaign underwritten by Peter Paul. She has summoned every resource at her disposal to avoid making statements under oath about her knowledge of the under reporting of more than $700,000 on her campaign finance statements. Hillary’s strategy is simple: delay as much as possible Peter Paul’s Civil suit and sacrifice the “small fish” associated with this wrongdoing.
This is the LARGEST CAMPAIGN FINANCE FRAUD IN HISTORY.

BARRETT REPORT:
By all accounts, the 400-page Barrett report is a bombshell, capable possibly of wiping out Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential prospects. At the very least, it would bring to public attention a scandal that would make the Valerie Plame affair vanish into comical insignificance.

Gore TV Faces Lawsuits
NewsMax Reports:
Gore TV Facing 2 Lawsuits:
A cable television network co-founded by former Vice President Al Gore is facing at least two lawsuits challenging its use of the name Current TV.
A Maryland company is suing in federal court in Cincinnati claiming trademark infringement. Minnesota Public Radio has made a similar complaint in a Minneapolis court.
"This is a straight-forward case of trademark infringement," according to briefs filed last month in U.S. District Court by Current Communications Group of Germantown, Md., a provider of broadband Internet services that relies on a Cincinnati company to help distribute its service.
Current Communications contends that it had registered several variations of "Current" trademarks before Current TV was introduced in April 2005.
Minnesota Public Radio claimed in a suit filed earlier this month that it applied to register "The Current" as a trademark four months before Gore's network changed its name to Current TV.
Gore's company bought Newsworld International, a 24-hour cable network, from Canadian Broadcasting Corp. in May 2004 and had planned to use the name "INdTV" and aim programming at 20-somethings, according to the Cincinnati lawsuit.
Current TV, based in San Francisco, features alternative news and "citizen journalism" pieces, many submitted by amateurs who send in video. According to its web site, viewers contribute about one-third of the station's content.
A message seeking comment from Current TV on the Cincinnati lawsuit was not immediately returned. Earlier, the company issued a statement in response to the MPR lawsuit saying more than 300 U.S. businesses use the word "current" in their name.

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Interior Ministry forces captured a top aide to al-Qaida's leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi during a raid in western Iraq, state television reported Monday.
Iraqiya TV identified the captive as Abu al-Farouq, a Syrian. It was reported that he was captured with five other alleged al-Qaida operatives in the Sunni insurgent stronghold of Ramadi, 70 miles west of Baghdad. The raid was carried out by the ministry's counterinsurgency Wolf Brigade.
Forces of the Interior Ministry, under the control of the country's majority Shiite Muslims, are routinely accused by minority Sunnis of targeting civilians within their community.
Also Monday, the Defense Ministry reported Iraqi security forces had killed 35 insurgents and arrested 487 in nationwide raids since Wednesday, when bombers blew up a major Shiite Muslim shrine in Samarra, 60 miles north of Baghdad.

SAN FRANCISCO — State officials on Tuesday postponed indefinitely the execution of condemned killer Michael Morales, saying they would be unable to comply with a judge's order that a medical professional administer the lethal injection.
Prison officials called off the execution of Morales, 46, after failing to find a doctor, nurse, or other properly licensed person to deliver a lethal dose of barbiturate, said Vernell Crittendon, a spokesman for San Quentin State Prison.
"I'm totally disillusioned with the justice system. We've been waiting 25 years with the expectancy that he is gonna pay for his crimes. It feels like we just got punched in the stomach."
Barbara Christian, Terri Winchell's mother"We are unable to have a licensed medical professional come forward to inject the medication intraveneously, causing the life to end," he said.
That mode of execution, not used any other state, was settled on by prison officials after plans to kill Morales using a three-drug cocktail were delayed when two anesthesiologists refused to participate on ethical grounds.
Morales was initially scheduled to die at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday for torturing, raping and murdering 17-year-old Terri Winchell of Lodi 25 years ago.
The anesthesiologists were brought in because of a ruling last week by a federal judge considering whether the state's injection protocol might be unconstitutionally cruel and unusual. The doctors backed out after learning they might have to advise the executioner if the inmate woke up or appeared to suffer pain.
Prison officials then rescheduled the execution for Tuesday night, planning to skip the usual paralyzing and heart-stopping drugs and kill him with an overdose of a sedative.
U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel approved that plan Tuesday afternoon, but said the sedative must be administered in the execution chamber by a person who is licensed by the state to inject medications intravenously, a group that includes doctors, nurses, dentists and other medical technicians.
Morales' lawyers said they would appeal to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, but the state notified the court late Tuesday afternoon that it did not intend to go forward with the execution, said Cathy Catterson, a clerk for the 9th Circuit.
Likely won't happen for months
It wasn't immediately clear when the execution would be carried out, but it isn't likely to happen for months because of consitutional questions surrounding the mode of lethal injection in California.
Crittendon said Morales, who had spent the day in the "death watch" cell, was relieved to learn of the postponement.
"He smiled," Crittendon said. "He nodded. He thanked me."
The victim's mother, Barbara Christian, however, was outraged by the decision.
"I'm totally disillusioned with the justice system. We've been waiting 25 years with the expectancy that he is gonna pay for his crimes," she said. "It feels like we just got punched in the stomach."
One of Morales' attorneys, Ben Weston, said the decision "goes a long way toward demonstrating the state doesn't have its ducks in a row for humanely killing a human being. They haven't figured out how to do it."
Morales was sentenced to death in 1983 for killing Winchell by attacking her with a hammer, stabbing her, and leaving her to die half-naked in a vineyard. Morales plotted the killing with a gay cousin who was jealous of Winchell's relationship with the cousin's male lover. The cousin, Ricky Ortega, now 44, was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
The case has renewed a legal and ethical debate that has persisted for many years about the proper role of doctors in executions and the suitability of the lethal injection method used in California and 36 other states.
The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld executions in general despite the pain they might cause inmates, but has never directly addressed whether lethal injections are constitutional.
Morales' attorneys argued that the three-part lethal injection violates the Eighth Amendment prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment. The attorneys said a prisoner could feel excruciating pain from the last two chemicals if he were not fully sedated.
Fogel, in a ruling last week, gave prison officials a choice: bring in doctors to ensure Morales was properly anesthetized, or skip the usual paralyzing and heart-stopping drugs and execute him with an overdose of a sedative.
The American Medical Association, the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the California Medical Association all opposed the anesthesiologists' participation as unethical and unprofessional.
The anesthesiologists ultimately withdrew after the judge wrote that they might have to demand that the executioner administer more sedatives through a separate intravenous line to make sure the prisoner is unconscious.
"Any such intervention would clearly be medically unethical," the doctors, whose identities were not released, said in a statement Tuesday. "As a result, we have withdrawn from participation in this current process."
The anesthesiologists would have joined another doctor who is on duty at all California executions to declare the prisoner dead and ensure proper medical procedures are followed. But the doctor does not insert any of the intravenous lines and is not in the room during the execution itself.
In the past, the intravenous lines have been inserted by prison staff, and then the drugs were added by a machine.
Because the execution was not carried out before the 24-hour warrant expired at 11:59 p.m., state officials will have to go back to the trial judge who imposed the death sentence in 1983 for another warrant.
In the meantime, Fogel is expected to hold a series of hearings in the spring on whether the original three-drug method, as performed without anesthesiologists, amounts to cruel and unusual punishment. His ruling last week promised the hearings as an alternative if the state couldn't abide by either of the two options for putting Morales to death.
The state uses the three-drug method, instead of just injecting a sedative, because it takes about 10 minutes to kill somebody compared to 30 minutes or more. Thirty-seven states use either two or three drugs to carry out executions by lethal injection.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who twice denied Morales' bid for clemency, criticized the federal courts for becoming entwined in "the details of the state's execution process."
"I am confident that the convictions and sentence were appropriate in this case," he said.

Feed Shark Turbo TaggerIf This Story Doesnt Make You Sick, You Have No Soul
As Most of my readers know I cant stand Ted Kennedy or any Kennedy for that matter. This story makes me really hate them.
Does this Woman look Retarded to you?
Rosemary Kennedy
She was Joe and Rose Kennedy’s third child, their first daughter. She was born in September 1918, two months before the end of World War I, during the Spanish influenza epidemic. Her name was Rose Marie Kennedy, but she became known as “Rosemary.” Later the Kennedys speculated that she was retarded because the nurse had prevented her birth until the arrival of the obstetrician, so that he could collect his full fee.
In his book, “The Kennedy Women,” Lawrence Leamer describes her as “painfully slow… a pretty child with green eyes that peered out on life directly.”
Leamer: “As Rosemary grew into a teenager she desperately wanted praise. She was happy for hours with a mere scrap of approval, and forlorn and discouraged at the hint of criticism…. Rosemary was slow, but she was not stupid and sometimes she would erupt in an inexplicable fury, the rage pouring out of her like a tempest from a cloudless sky.”
Perhaps she was angry at being treated as if she were somehow inferior to her siblings. At most, Rosemary was “mildly retarded,” as her obituaries would one day describe her, as well as the inspiration for her sister Eunice’s “Special Olympics.”
Shortly before World War II broke out in Europe, FDR appointed Joe Kennedy as ambassador to the Court of St. James – at the time the most important diplomatic post any American could hold. Joe of course moved to London, along with Rose and his two oldest daughters – Rosemary and Kathleen. As the American ambassador, Joe and his family would move in the highest circles of British society. And a decision was made: both daughters, the charming and brilliant Kathleen, and the “slow” Rosemary, would be “presented” to the King and Queen at Buckingham Palace.
Rosemary spent endless hours practicing her curtseying – the bow she would have to make to the King and Queen. On the appointed evening, with the cream of British nobility (and the press) watching, Kathleen and Rosemary were presented. Everything went off without a hitch, until the very end.
“Suddenly,” Leamer wrote, “just as Rosemary was attempting to glide off, she tripped, nearly falling. It was a debutante’s worst horror, at the most important social moment of her life, in front of the king and queen, to make a public spectacle of her awkwardness, her ineptness. The King and Queen smiled as if nothing had happened, and there was not even a murmur from the assembly, and indeed, it was all over in a few seconds. Rosemary recovered and followed Kathleen out the door.”
But although no one ever mentioned Rosemary’s faux pas, it reinforced what everyone (at least in the family) understood: that Rosemary was somehow different. Increasingly, the problem was simply that Rosemary was too good-looking, even more striking than Kathleen, who was herself a knock-out. As long as older brothers Joe Jr. and Jack had been around, to arrange her dance card and to scare off the potential suitors “who took her cryptic silences and deliberate speech as feminine demureness,” she was okay. Later, in London she was often squired to social events by a young Embassy employee named, of all things, “Jack Kennedy,” who became known as “London Jack,” to distinguish him from JFK.
But as war clouds gathered, and Joe was recalled to the U.S. after his disastrous pro-Hitler remarks to the Boston Herald, Joe, Jr. and Jack joined the Navy. There was no one left to escort Rosemary. She was packed off to a Washington convent, which she quickly figured out how to escape from.
“At night she walked out into the dark streets looking for the light and life of the city… The family feared that she was going out into the streets to do what Kathleen called ‘the thing the priest says not to do.’… There was a dread fear of pregnancy, disease and disgrace.”
Joe Kennedy began talking to a quack physician from George Washington University named Walter Freeman, who was experimenting with a new form of brain surgery that would come to be known as a pre-frontal lobotomy. He sold Joe Kennedy a bill of goods – the biggest drawback for a female patient, Freeman wrote, was the fact that her head would have to be partially shaved, preventing her from going out socially for several weeks.
Not everyone in the family was convinced, though. Kathleen Kennedy sought out a reporter friend of hers who had done research into the new procedure. The reporter told Kathleen that the whole procedure was “just not good” and that post-lobotomy, the patients “don’t worry so much, but they’re gone as a person, just gone.”
Which may have been what Joe really wanted all along. Soon thereafter, Rosemary was wheeled into the operating room. She received a shot of Novocain and when she regained consciousness, her head was on a sandbag.
Freeman and his associate drilled a hole in her skull and inserted a sort of spatula into her brain and began digging. They asked her to sing simple songs and perform basic addition and subtraction. As long as she could recite the doggerel, and handle third-grade arithmetic, they kept digging. Finally, though, Rosemary Kennedy fell silent, and the operation was over.
And so, for all practical purposes, was Rosemary Kennedy’s life.
“She had regressed into an infantlike state,” Leamer wrote, “mumbling a few words, sitting for hours staring at the walls, only traces left of the young woman she had been, still with flashes of rage. This was a horror beyond horror, an unthinkable, unspeakable disaster. Rose and her children had repressed so much, and now they repressed what Joe had done to his daughter, repressed it all and pretended that it had never happened and that Rosemary no longer existed.”
She lived in a series of private institutions, including years in the Craig House, a private hospital north of New York City. No one from the family ever visited her. In the 1970’s, she somehow escaped once more, from a Midwestern psychiatric home, into the streets of Chicago. The wire services carried photos of her in a wheelchair, being hustled into an ambulance by Chicago cops.
But Rosemary’s story, so horrifying in its casual, callous brutality, was never forgotten by millions of Americans, and certainly not by any members of the Kennedy family. In the late 1970s, Bobby’s doomed son, David, was reading a copy of the pro-drug magazine High Times when he came across a story on lobotomies. Naturally enough, one of the illustrations was a photo of his beautiful aunt Rosemary, pre-lobotomy.
“She had a new pair of white shoes on,” David recalled later for the authors Peter Collier and David Horowitz. “The thought crossed my mind that if my grandfather was alive the same thing could have happened to me that happened to her. She was an embarrassment; I am an embarrassment. She was a hindrance; I am a hindrance. As I looked at this picture, I began to hate my grandfather and all of them for having done the thing they had done to her and for doing the thing they were doing to me.”
David died of a drug overdose in 1984. His aunt outlived him by almost 21 years, finally dying in January 2005 in Fort Atkinson, WI, where she had been institutionalized for more than a quarter century. She was 86.

She was 86.

Actor Gary Sinise Tackles Media On Iraq
Actor Gary Sinise Tackles Media on Iraq
Exclusive from NewsMax.com
The U.S. media presents a "completely opposite" view of what is really happening with American troops in Iraq, highlighting the negative and ignoring the positive, Emmy Award-winning actor Gary Sinise tells NewsMax in an exclusive interview with James Hirsen.
With so many in Hollywood knocking American efforts in the Middle East, Sinise - star of TV's "CSI: NY" - openly shows his support through actions as well as words.
Sinise has entertained troops in Iraq and is a co-founder - along with "Seabiscuit" author Laura Hillenbrand - of Operation Iraqi Children, a program that enables ordinary Americans to provide boys and girls in Iraq with school supply kits distributed by our men and women in uniform.
The actor, who played disabled Vietnam veteran Lieutenant Dan in "Forrest Gump," is also a spokesman for the U.S. Disabled Veterans Life Memorial Foundation.
He is also the co-founder of the Lt. Dan Band, a musical ensemble that entertains troops via USO tours. (Sinise plays a mean bass.)
Sinise recently spoke exclusively with NewsMax's James Hirsen, and in the wide-ranging interview the star:
*Berates the media over coverage of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, and tells of a talk he had with a journalist who admitted the press focuses on negative stories in the Middle East because "bad news sells."
*Confides that the events of 9/11 changed his view of the world, making him feel "very vulnerable in this country."
*Stresses the dangers the U.S. faces in the war against terror, saying that if the 9/11 attackers "could have killed 300,000 instead of 3,000, they would have been all the happier about that."
*Recalls how the 1983 bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut affected him deeply.
*Bemoans the treatment of U.S. soldiers by many Americans during the Vietnam War. "They were called baby killers and everything else," he said, even though they "might have been feeding a bunch of starving kids over there in a village." He declares: "That should never happen again."
*Discusses how his Operation Iraqi Children is helping to win the hearts and minds of ordinary Iraqis.
*Talks about the values he is trying to instill in his teenage children - and how working on a TV show differs from acting in a movie.
*Sinise also reveals what prompted him to get involved with American troops and veterans, why some in Hollywood have refused to entertain U.S. troops in the Middle East, how Iraqis really feel about the American presence in Iraq... and much, much more.

Does it really matter if we recieved the News about our Vice President's Hunting accident on Sunday morning? Saturday night? Harry Whittington, a 78-year-old lawyer, was in stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) -- Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot and wounded a companion during a weekend quail hunting trip in Texas, spraying the fellow hunter in the face and chest with shotgun pellets.
Harry Whittington, a millionaire attorney from Austin, was in stable condition in the intensive care unit of a Corpus Christi hospital Sunday, said Yvonne Wheeler, spokeswoman for the Christus Spohn Health System.
The accident occurred Saturday at a ranch in south Texas where the vice president and several companions were hunting quail. It was not reported publicly by the vice president's office for nearly 24 hours, and then only after it was reported locally by the Corpus Christi Caller-Times on its Web site Sunday.
Katharine Armstrong, the ranch's owner, said Sunday that Cheney was using a 28-guage shotgun and that Whittington was about 30 yards away when he was hit in the cheek, neck and chest.
Each of the hunters was wearing a bright orange vest at the time, Armstrong told reporters at the ranch about 60 miles southwest of Corpus Christi. She said Whittington was "alert and doing fine."

This is truly sad, and the Liberals and the MSM have proven once again they are just out to get the President and his entire cabinet. I Am Coming!
Dear Terrorists,
I am a Navy Aviator. I was born and raised in a small town in New England. I come from a family of five. I was raised in a middle class home and taught my values by my mother and father.
My dad worked a series of jobs in finance and my mom took care of us kids. We were not an overly religious family but attended church most Sundays. It was a nice small Episcopal Church. I have a brother and
sister and I am the youngest in my family. I was the first in many generations to attend college.
I have flown Naval aircraft for 16 years. For me the flying was never a lifelong dream or a "calling," it just happened. I needed a job and I liked the challenge. I continue to do it today because I feel it is important to give back to a nation which has given so much to me. I do it because, although I will never be rich, my family will be comfortable.
I do it because many of my friends have left for the airlines and someone has to do it.
My government has spent millions to train me to fly these
multi-million dollar aircraft. I make about 70,000 dollars a year and after 20 years will be offered a pension.
I like baseball but think the players make too much money. I am in awe of firemen and policemen and what they do each day for my community, and like teachers, they just don't get paid enough.
I respect my elders and always use sir or ma'am when addressing a stranger. I'm not sure about kids these days but I think that's normal for every generation.
I tell you all this because when I come for you, I want you to know me. I won't be hiding behind a woman or a child. I won't be disguised or pretending to be something I am not. I will be in a U.S. issue flight suit. I will be wearing standard US issue flight gear, and I will be flying a navy aircraft clearly marked as a US warplane. I wish we could
meet up close in a small room where I could wrap my hands around your throat and slowly squeeze the life out of you, but unfortunately, you're hiding in a hole in the ground, so we will have to do this a different way.
I want you to know also that I am very good at what I do. I can put a 2,000 lb weapon through a window from 10,000 feet up. I generally only fly at night, so you may want to start sleeping during the day. I am not eager to die for my country but I am willing to sacrifice my life to protect it from animals like you.
I will do everything in my power to ensure no civilians are hurt as I take aim at you.
My countrymen are a forgiving bunch. Many are already forgetting what you did on Sept 11th. But I will not forget!!
I am coming. I hope you know me a little bit better, see you soon...sleep tight.

Feed Shark Turbo TaggerLA Terror Plot Foiled
L.A. terror plot 'foiled'
From: Reuters From correspondents in Washington
February 10, 2006
THE United States and its allies thwarted an al-Qaeda plot after the September 11 attacks to use bombs hidden in shoes to breach the cockpit door of an airplane and fly it into the tallest building in Los Angeles, US President George W. Bush said.
"The plot was derailed in early 2002 when a South-East Asian nation arrested a key al-Qaeda operative," Mr Bush said in a speech.
Last October, the Bush administration had disclosed a plot to attack targets on the US West Coast using hijacked planes, saying this was among 10 disrupted al-Qaeda plots, but Mr Bush provided more details.
He referred to the plot as targeting the Liberty Tower in Los Angeles, but White House aides afterward said Mr Bush had meant to say the intended target was the city's Library Tower.
Mr Bush said that in October 2001, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the mastermind of the September 11 attacks that year, had set in motion a plot for another attack inside the United States using shoe bombs to hijack an airplane and fly it into the tallest building on the West Coast.
Rather than use Arab hijackers as in the September 11 attack, Mohammed "sought out young men from South-East Asia whom he believed would not arouse as much suspicion," Mr Bush said.
The operatives trained in Afghanistan and met with Osama bin Laden before beginning their preparations for the attack, said Mr Bush.
"Subsequent debriefings and other intelligence operations made clear the intended target and how al-Qaeda hoped to execute it. This critical intelligence helped our allies capture the ringleaders and other known operatives who had been recruited for this plot," he said.

The President never mentioned if wiretaps were involved, as well he shouldnt.
But I bet they had a part in this.
Anyone who think's the President isnt doing his best to protect the Security Of Our Nation and it's people are blind.
And this is just another reason we cant trust Liberals with our security. They just arent as strong on National Defense as the Republicans.

KING FUNERAL TURNS POLITICAL: BUSH BASHED BY FORMER PRESIDENT, REVEREND
Tue Feb 07 2006 15:49:48 ET
Today's memorial service for civil rights activist Coretta Scott King -- billed as a "celebration" of her life -- turned suddenly political as one former president took a swipe at the current president, who was also lashed by an outspoken black pastor!
The outspoken Rev. Joseph Lowery, co-founder of Southern Christian Leadership Conference, ripped into President Bush during his short speech, ostensibly about the wife of Martin Luther King Jr.
"She extended Martin's message against poverty, racism and war. She deplored the terror inflicted by our smart bombs on missions way afar. We know now that there were no weapons of mass destruction over there," Lowery said.
The mostly black crowd applauded, then rose to its feet and cheered in a two-minute-long standing ovation.
A closed-circuit television in the mega-church outside Atlanta showed the president smiling uncomfortably.
"But Coretta knew, and we know," Lowery continued, "That there are weapons of misdirection right down here," he said, nodding his head toward the row of presidents past and present. "For war, billions more, but no more for the poor!" The crowd again cheered wildly.
Former President Jimmy Carter later swung at Bush as well, not once but twice. As he talked about the Kings, he said: "It was difficult for them then personally with the civil liberties of both husband and wife violated as they became the target of secret government wiretaps." The crowd cheered as Bush, under fire for a secret wiretapping program he ordered after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, again smiled weakly.
Later, Carter said Hurricane Katrina showed that all are not yet equal in America. Some black leaders have blamed Bush for the poor federal response, and rapper Kayne West said that Bush "hates" black people.

Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton Blast Bush at King Service
A Nation Mourns Coretta Scott King
The Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton lambasted President Bush Monday night at a memorial service in Atlanta for Coretta Scott King, faulting him for the Iraq war and for ignoring the plight of black people.
The two Democratic Party civil rights leaders "galvanized the crowd" during a three-hour service at the city's famed Ebenezer Baptist Church, as they blasted government figures like Bush for trying to make the King legacy their own, the Associated Press said.
"We can't let them take her from us and reduce her to their trophy and not our freedom fighter," Jackson railed.
"This is not a celebrity funeral," added Sharpton. "This is us coming to say thank you to a woman who took a bullet in her husband and kept on marching."
The dueling reverends excoriated Bush for the Hurricane Katrina disaster and for diverting the nation's resources to the Iraq war.
President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush attended Mrs. King's funeral on Tuesday, along with former first couple Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Unemployment Rate Declines in January
Feb 3, 12:53 PM (ET)
By JEANNINE AVERSA
Chart shows new orders of durable goods for the past 13 months.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Employers stepped up hiring in January, boosting payrolls by 193,000 and lowering the nation's unemployment rate to 4.7 percent, the lowest since July 2001.
The fresh snapshot of the jobs climate, released by the Labor Department on Friday, suggested that the economy started the new year on fairly good footing.
Although the 193,000 gain in payroll jobs in January fell short of the 250,000 new jobs that economists said to anticipate before the release of the report, it still marked a sturdy showing and was the biggest increase in jobs since November.
"There's no question we're getting back to better days for job creation," said Ken Mayland, economist at ClearView Economics. "There's been a sense of unease in the American workplace and this should help relieve that. The economy is getting on off to excellent start in 2006."
Chart shows the Index of Leading Economic Indicators seasonally adjusted, for the past 13 months....
Moreover, job growth in December turned out to be stronger than previously thought. Revised figures showed payrolls expanded by 140,000 - an improvement over the 108,000 new jobs first estimated a month ago. Employment was revised up for some previous months as well.
The unemployment rate dropped to 4.7 percent in January, from 4.9 percent in December.
On Wall Street, stocks fell as investors worried the Federal Reserve might raise rates this year more than they had previously thought. The Dow Jones industrials were off 46 points and the Nasdaq was down 19 points in morning trading.
President Bush welcomed the new jobs figures.
"We've overcome a lot," Bush said. "I really ascribe that to that, mainly, the entrepreneurial spirit of American is strong. The small business sector is strong. I do happen to think good tax policy helps. I think keeping taxes low is an important way to make sure this economy continues to grow."
In another report, the Commerce Department said that factory orders rose by 1.1 in December, a good sign that manufacturing was off to a strong start in the new year.
This improvement followed an even higher 3.3 percent gain in November and marked the third straight month where new bookings to factories went up. December's performance was in line with the 1 percent increase in factory orders that economists were forecasting before the release of the report.
For all of 2005, factory orders rose 8.1 percent. That followed a gain of 9.7 percent in 2004.
Job gains were fairly broad based, with employment growing in construction, manufacturing, professional and business services and education and health care. Those employment gains blunted job losses in retailing and government.
For all of 2005, the economy created nearly 2 million jobs - close to the number posted for 2004, according to annual revisions.
In New York, the Institute for Supply Management reported that the service sector grew in January but at a slower pace than the previous month. Its index dipped to 56.8 from 61.0 in December. The new figure was lower than the 60 reading forecast by analysts.
A reading of 50 and above points to a growing service sector, while a figure below that signals contraction. January marked the 34th consecutive month of growth for the service sector, ISM said.
Despite good news on some economic matters, Americans still feel anxious about the economy, polls indicate.
Bush, coping with relatively low job-approval ratings, is seeking to ease those fears. In his State of the Union address as well as subsequent speeches Bush has been talking about ways to make the country more competitive and is pushing plans to deal with pocketbooks issues, such as high energy prices and rising health care costs.
Bush also is calling on Congress to make his tax cuts permanent. Democrats, however, contend the tax cuts mostly helped the wealthy and are a big reason why the government's balance sheets are bleeding red ink.
Employees' average hourly earnings climbed to $16.41 in January, up 0.4 percent from December. That increase was slightly larger than the 0.3 percent rise that economists were expecting.
While wage growth is good for workers, a big pickup if sustained - would be troubling to investors and economists who fret about inflation.
To fend off inflation, the Federal Reserve on Tuesday boosted a key interest rate to its highest point in nearly five years. New Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke will decide the next rate move at the Fed's next meeting, March 28. Many economists believe another rate increase is likely to come then.
Mayland said he believes the pickup in workers' wages should help support consumer spending, a key shaper of overall economic activity. Retailers reported Thursday that they rang up better-than-expected sales in January. Mayland predicts the economy, which grew by an anemic 1.1 percent rate in the final quarter of last year, is rebounding smartly in the January-to-March quarter.

NAACP chairman compares GOP to Nazis
Bond delivers blistering partisan speech in North Carolina

Civil rights activist and NAACP Chairman Julian Bond delivered a blistering partisan speech at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina last night, equating the Republican Party with the Nazi Party and characterizing Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and her predecessor, Colin Powell, as "tokens."
"The Republican Party would have the American flag and the swastika flying side by side," he charged.
Calling President Bush a liar, Bond told the audience at the historically black institution that this White House's lies are more serious than the lies of his predecessor's because Clinton's lies didn't kill people.
"We now find ourselves refighting old battles we thought we had already won," he said. "We have to fight discrimination whenever it raises its ugly head."
He referred to former Attorney General John Ashcroft as J. Edgar Ashcroft. He compared Bush's judicial nominees to the Taliban.
The talk so infuriated at least one black family in attendance among the 900 in the auditorium that they got up and walked out in protest.
"He went on and on name calling," said Lee Wilson. "I walked out in the middle of his speech with my wife and three kids"
The harsh partisan rhetoric from Bond should not have surprised anyone who has followed him in recent years.
In July 2001, Bond said, "[Bush] has selected nominees from the Taliban wing of American politics, appeased the wretched appetites of the extreme right wing, and chosen Cabinet officials whose devotion to the Confederacy is nearly canine in its uncritical affection."

This Moron is a blatant LIAR!
I dont even believe in the Swastika being flown ANYWHERE.
President Bush has put more people of color/and/or/race in more top positions than ANY administration in History! I dont consider them "Tokens"!
And the NAACP wonders why President Bush didnt give a speech to them during the last election? I think Bond is a pretty good reason NOT to go.
The NAACP should DEMAND Bond's resignation immediately!!!
