GOV. D-NY ELIOT SPITZER CAUGHT UP IN PROSTITUTION RING: EXPECTED TO RESIGN
ALBANY - Gov. Eliot Spitzer has been caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet with a high-priced prostitute at a Washington hotel last month, according to a person briefed on the federal investigation.
A Wiretap recording, made during an investigation of a prostitution ring called Emperors Club VIP, captured a man identified as Client 9 on a telephone call confirming plans to have a woman travel from New York to Washington, where he had reserved a room. The person briefed on the case identified Mr. Spitzer as Client 9.
The governor learned that he had been implicated in the prostitution probe when a federal official contacted his staff last Friday, according to the person briefed on the case.
The governor informed his top aides Sunday night and this morning of his involvement. He canceled his public events today and scheduled an announcement for this afternoon after inquiries from the Times.
The governor’s aides appeared shaken, and one of them began to weep as they waited for him to make his statement at his Manhattan office. Mr. Spitzer was seen leaving his Fifth Avenue apartment just before 3 p.m. with his wife of 21 years, Silda, heading to the news conference.
The man described as Client 9 in court papers arranged to meet with a prostitute who was part of the ring, Emperors Club VIP, on the night of Feb. 13. Mr. Spitzer traveled to Washington that evening, according to a person told of his travel arrangements.
The affidavit says that Client 9 met with the woman in hotel room 871 but does not identify the hotel. Mr. Spitzer stayed at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington on Feb. 13, according to a source who was told of his travel arrangements. Room 871 at the Mayflower Hotel that evening was registered under the another name.
Federal prosecutors rarely charge clients in prostitution cases, which are generally seen as state crimes. But the Mann Act, passed by Congress in 1910 to address prostitution, human trafficking and what was viewed at the time as immorality in general, makes it a crime to transport someone between states for the purpose of prostitution. The four defendants charged in the case unsealed last week were all charged with that crime, along with several others.
Mr. Spitzer had a difficult first year in office, rocked by a mix of scandal and legislative setbacks. In recent weeks, however, Mr. Spitzer seemed to have rebounded, with his Democratic party poised to perhaps gain control of the state Senate for the first time in four decades.
Mr. Spitzer gained national attention when he served as attorney general with his relentless pursuit of Wall Street wrongdoing. As attorney general, he also had prosecuted at least two prostitution rings as head of the state’s organized crime task force.
In one such case in 2004, Mr. Spitzer spoke with revulsion and anger after announcing the arrest of 16 people for operating a high-end prostitution ring out of Staten Island.
“”This was a sophisticated and lucrative operation with a multitiered management structure,” Mr. Spitzer said at the time. ”It was, however, nothing more than a prostitution ring.”
Albany for months has been roiled by bitter fighting and accusations of dirty tricks. The Albany County district attorney is set to issue in the coming days the results of his investigation into Mr. Spitzer’s first scandal, his aides’ involvement in an effort to tarnish Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno, the state’s top Republican.

Wow! He was caught in a sex scandal with a FEMALE!
It had to be a Democrat!
Foley diddled kids for years and the GOP hierarchy looked the other way.
Larry Craig was cruising men's rooms for a date and refused to resign after propositioning a cop.
David Vitter patronized prostitutes and remains in the Senate.
Well at least Vitter and Spitzer went for the opposite sex.
LOL!
I think he is one of Hillary's buddies, Marie.
Well, this doesn't surprise me. I do feel sorry for his wife and kids though and wonder if this is going to destroy his marriage. I honestly hope not for the sake of his children, but I don't know that I would be forgiving if I were the wife. Fortunately I've never had to find out!
I just read Joanne's comment. Unfortunately she's right. There are b*stards on both sides!
Joanne,
A Sex Scandal? This was a Porstitution ring and do you know if he solicited sex over state lines he could go to jail?
Now we really dont want to get into Barney Frank running a male prostitution ring from his home do we?
Or the phillanderer and the Blue Dress.
Or Robert KKK Byrd?
I think there is enough corruption on both sides of the isle.
It's both parties!!
Gayle,
It seems when there is anything that happenes with the Republicans the left never seems to give a crap about thier families!
However we think about that stuff, but it still has to be brought to light, because if this were a Republican we would NEVER hear the end of it.
I also agree with Joanne,
There's enough corruption to go around on both sides, I just want to remind people that the Democrat's arent exactly Squeeky Clean!
I expect the Federalist will be chiming in any time now lol
Now the Democrats have a Larry Craig of their own.
This comment has been removed by the author.
This is the second northeast Governor that has resigned over betraying the public trust in the last few years. Even my leftist Governor can't keep his hand to himself and nearly got the boot when he was Mayor of Philadelphia. I said right up front when Larry Craig was caught betraying the public trust he has to resign. Mary Foley should have been put under the jail. I supported Mitt Romney instead of Rudy Giuliani because Romney is a strong family man and Rudy was did the same thing as Bill Clinton using the resources of his office to hide his affair. I won't stand for it, from anyone!!! Gay or Straight!!
Spitzer is another arguement illustrating that charactor matters. Democrats insist that personal behavior has nothing to do with how a person will govern, but they are so very obviously wrong.
HRC ignored her husbands transgressions and then forgot them. What will she do when a terror supporting world leader is caught attacking Americans?
At least, Spitzer fessed-up to having sex with that woman - Kristen.
Craig hasn't resigned.
At least Spitzer was having sex with a woman outside a bathroom stall...
No spin here, he's guilty.
Vitter didn't resign either and that was a prostitution ring as well. It is a criminal offense but the crime the perpetuate against their families is immeasurable. Spitzer's family will be affected more than Eliot himself, much more.
If you really want to keep score and look at just the last couple of years, keeping it to congressman who represent in essence all of us, you have the following:
Republicans: Vitter, Craig, Foley, Stevens, Delay, Ney, Renzi.
Democrats: Jefferson.
We don't even want to go to the gubernatorial level...
Bottom line is that an idiot is an idiot---Republican or Democrat.
I really hate to nitpick, ( no I don’t ) But did anyone else notice what I did?
With all of the coverage on Spitzer, that I’’ve seen all day and night yesterday...I noticed one thing, and one BIG thing in my eyes. The media completely failed to mention even once that he’’s a democrat. Don’’t you notice that EVERY time a Republican gets into trouble the never fail to address him as a Republican, such as Senator Craig for example. ex: " in his first public statement on the arrest, the Idaho Republican said he did nothing "inappropriate.
A Democrat caught up in yet another sex scandal. Gosh Marie I just cannot belive it....NOT! LOL
This is becoming a regular politcal theme for the Dems. Only this time he was at least participating in the , "oldest prfession, " which as Reagan put it is similar to politics.
"Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first." RONALD REAGAN
Danny,
Yep, then again they had Barney Frank for ever.
Jenn,
Neither will I, it's just important to point out the hypocrisy about this whole thing.
After all the Democrat blame game of the Rpublicans they act like we "Own" Corruption and it just inst true, they "Invented it"!
Angel,
I know, pfft you said it well lol
Indigo,
I have alway's thought Hillary and Bill's marriage was one of convenience. On the Terrorism issue, I think we know the answer. Just like when Bill Clinton was in office and they had one of many clear shot's to take out Bin Laden and Sandy Berger hung up the phone and George Tenet never got to take the shot.
That's exactly what will happen with another Clinton Presidency.
Federalist,
There you are lol,
You think Democrat corruption just biols down to Jefferson?
What about Barney Frank, Stubbs, McGreivy, Kennedy, Byrd, Clinton, etc.. Trust me you guy's list is just as long as ours if not longer!
But I agree an idiot is an idiot in either party.
DD,
Yeah, I kinda knew that was coming that's why I made it a point to put D-NY as part of the title. Looks like we have to do the MSM's job for them.
Ken,
I think this guy is going to wind up in jail.
He violated the "Mann Act"
Transporting Women across state lines for the purpose of prostitution.
He better step down because he is in it deep!
I'm suprised he hasn't resigned already, Marie. If he thinks he can continue to hold office after this, he's not only arrogant and stupid, he's also delusional!
Gayle,
I know, I think if he doesnt step down soon he's going to be impeached!
As I said Marie, if you keep it to congress you guys take the title hands down! LOL...you outnumber us at least 5-1 !!!
Why should Spitzer resign if Vitter and Craig didn't?
LOL @ "impeach"...that is just funny when a right-winger types that!
Federalist,
Because unlike an "email" just an email to a page, (Foley) and a "suspicion" of Craig doing whatever he was doing in the bathroom, which there has been no proof whatsoever of the man doing anything but going potty, unlike these incidents Spitzer said he for sure has done something wrong.
Look what he's done to his wife?
Stubbs actually had an affair with a page, was censured, and Barney Frank was censured for running a male prostitution ring from his apartment! Stubbs is now dead, but Barney Frank remains?
Why should Craig step down, he said there was nothing going on and no matter how it looked to the police officer, there's no proof!
We dont have anyone beat in the corruption dept. You guy's invented it!
Why should it be funny to see me type "Impeach"? Being as you guy's are the ones who have actually had someone in your party impeached!
And the reason I typed Impeach to begin with was I heard today that unless Spitzer resigns in 48 hours, the Republican House and Senate in New York said that's what they were going to do was impeach the man!
This guy is facing huge charges, money laundering, he violated the Mann Act, and god knows what other charges he faces by the time the FBI get's done with him and he is indeed indicted.
Do we really want to get into "This one did this and that one did that"? Because I got a million of 'em!
But you said it before you made your quite sarcastic remark OoooOoO they are idiots! All of 'em!
I was agreeing with you till you shot one over my bow!
Anti-Assclown
I gotta give you credit for thinking up a name lol
And I agree, somewhat, most politicians are assclowns lol
The assclowns running this country are destroying it. It doesn't matter who or which party it is, they are all made of assclowns.
Why is it when I step into the comment section of my own blog I feel I have stepped into the Twilight Zone?
Marie questioned...Why is it when I step into the comment section of my own blog I feel I have stepped into the Twilight Zone?
You have Marie, this is the twilight Zone where you have faux guy to the left of you and anti assclowns to right of you, and here we are pluck in the middle of a Twilight zone.
I don't want to get into keeping score Marie. I was just talking about the last 3 years of this century and you are more interested in bring up the last 30 years.
LOL...I guess texting, "I'd love to slip those shorts off of you" to a male page is "just an e-mail"...LOL.
I doubt Spitzer is going to doing any jail time. He should resign and take his family out of the spotlight, though.
From what I have heard most Democrats in NY really didn't care for him. I don't think they'll miss him.
Not sure how the Mann Act will be an issue, unless he was engaging in human trafficking and transporting her against her will. That's probably a tough one to prove in court.
What I want to know is ...What do you get for $5,000.00 an hour? LOL
Jenn,
Great Video lol, nice to know I'm not stuck in the Twilight Zone alone!
Federalist,
No let's not get into score keeping.
Ew ok texting whatever I dont want to know what was text messaging, but it was still texting, emailing, whatever.
I think Spitzer is so far in deep he is going to jail unless he flips on someone but he is in it.
That is what the Mann Act is about "Human Trafficing" and it doesnt have to be against her will, it just has to be across state lines which evidently it was.
Well he just resigned so he will be out of the spotlight but I dont see this story going away anytime soon.
Hell all of the cases he tried may ALL have to be re-tried, oh what a mess!
DD,
I know 5000.00 an hour is a bit much, one can only imagine.
Jesus LOL
Right off, I'll say that I've never had any respect for Spit. As attorney general of NY he was more concerned with making a name for himself (political ambitions) and had no problem with prosecuting anybody, guilty or innocent, if it enhanced his career.
That said, the very fact that he prosecuted organized prostitution rings when he himself is/was a charter member of same is enough to convince me that he is a weasel of the highest order. Why not appoint an Al Capone clone director of the ATF while we're at it?
I feel sympathy for the SOB's family, particularly his wife: The look in her eyes in current news pics shows what this revelation has done to her.
He needs not only to do some time, but also to be skinned on the way to prison.
Marie,
You should be a politician! LOL...you just ignore any points that you don't want to address!
Vitter? Why didn't he resign?
Foley sending COMPLETELY inappropriate, homosexually erotic, pedophile, messages? And that's "just an e-mail"? LOL...what if that were your kid?
There have been more Republicans charged with corruption in the last 3 years than Democrats in the last 15...LOL...yeah...I wouldn't want you to go there, Marie! LOL!
Seth,
Talk about the Hypocrisy of it all!
LMAO, Al Capone head of the ATF!
Federalist,
You should be a politician! LOL...you just ignore any points that you don't want to address!
You talk about me?
I only address issues that matter to like minded thinking people that comment here.
And point out the utter hypocrisy of the left.
Corruption is Corruption, is Corruption, and YOU on the left are as guilty of it as any one on the right.
But when it's one of your own, you just cant stand it being pointed out that there IS Corruption on your side!
What do I look like? Fox News? I dont have to be fair and balanced!
That's all you needed to do Marie, admit that you are not fair and balanced...that is the mantra of the right.
Good post.
Federalist,
I said "I dont HAVE to be fair and balanced"!
I am here to point out the Hypocrisy on the part of the left.
And I seem to have a constant supply of material!
What part of Far Right do you not understand? LOL
