Rep. Jefferson Gets Seat on Homeland Security
Rep. William Jefferson, the Louisiana Democrat who's facing an ongoing federal corruption probe, is being granted a spot on the Homeland Security Committee, according to Democratic aides.
The appointment will be announced Friday, according to one aide who requested anonymity because the decision isn't yet official.
Jefferson was removed from his seat on the Ways and Means Committee, one of the most important panels in Congress, by Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) last summer in an attempt to show how seriously Democrats viewed the allegations of corruption.
But the move by Pelosi, who was still minority leader at the time, infuriated members of the Congressional Black Caucus, who said Jefferson shouldn't be punished unless he is indicted; federal prosecutors have yet to bring an indictment, despite an FBI raid 18 months ago on his home that yielded $90,000 in cash in his freezer.
Other lawmakers were angling for the seat on Homeland Security, which was the last slot available on the panel, according to another Democratic aide.
The committee oversees the Homeland Security Department and its web of agencies designed to protect against terrorism on U.S. soil.
The committee has oversight of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which was widely panned for its response to Hurricane Katrina in Jefferson's hometown of New Orleans.
As a member of the committee, Jefferson will not have direct oversight of the FBI or the Justice Department.
A former Jefferson aide has already pleaded guilty to corruption in the ongoing investigation, as has a businessman who alleged in his plea agreement that he bribed Jefferson in order to win contracts with African nations.
When most committee assignments were given out two months ago, Jefferson was assigned a spot on the Small Business Committee, generally considered one of the least sought after panels.

Liberals get a free pass of impunity, while Conservatives are investigated to the full extend, and then some. When the Democrats get a bunch of lemons, they blame it on the Republicans. When the Republicans receive a bunch of lemons, air-mailed and delivered by Democrats, the left points, accuses, and blames. Why clean up your own house when you can throw your trash in someone else's house?

I agree this is rediculous. But it's not like liberals are the only corrupt people in Washington. You could post articles about Mark Foley Ken Mehlman being GAY, Jack Abramoff, Haliburton's no-bid contracts, Bush receiving money from the Osama Bin Laden's brother to start Arbusto Oil in Texas, etc...
So, it's most of them. Party affiliation has nothing to do with corruption.
Meanwhile the lefty sites are convulsing over the fact the DOJ fired a bunch of US Attorneys, a couple of them "right in the middle of investigating corruption". Apparently nobody that was investigating Mr cold cash.
Clinton fired every single one of them in 1993, and he was considered smart.
I called Pelosi's office and complained LOUDLY about this.
I don't support this choice at all.
What can I do besides calling and complaining? Jefferson is not in my district, so calling him doesn't help.
And if Mehlman is gay, so what? And if he wants to keep it in the closet, so what?
Gay people are our brothers and sisters and members of all our families. Some gays are even members of high ranking politicians' families--Mary Cheney is expecting with her partner. Good for them. And I hope they have a healthy happy baby and a happy long life. Period.
Thank goodness the young people don't worry about who's gay and who isn't.

In 1990, the House voted to reprimand Frank when it was revealed that Steve Gobie, a male prostitute that Rep. Frank had befriended after hiring him through a personal advertisement, claimed to have conducted a prostitution ring from Frank's apartment when he was not at home. Frank had dismissed Gobie earlier that year and reported the incident to the House Ethics Committee after learning of Gobie's activities. After an investigation, the House Ethics Committee found no evidence that Frank had known of or been involved in the alleged illegal activity. Frank was reprimanded overwhelmingly by the House. None of the men involved were underage teens.
The New York Times reported on July 20, 1990 that The House Ethics Committee recommended "that Representative Barney Frank receive a formal reprimand from the House for his relationship with a male prostitute" Attempts to expel or censure Frank failed; instead the House voted 408-18 to reprimand him. This condemnation was not reflected in Frank's district, where he won re-election in 1990 with 66 percent of the vote, and has won by larger margins ever since.
In 1995, former Republican House Majority Leader Dick Armey bashed Frank when he referred to Frank as "Barney Fag" in a press interview. Armey apologized and claimed it was "a slip of the tongue". Frank did not accept the "slip of the tongue" excuse and famously responded, "My mother says that in 59 years since being married to my father, no one had ever called her Elsie Fag."

By your logic, then, all of those stories were without merit. Okay. I'm glad to hear you agree with me that those Whitewater, McDougal, and Lewinsky stories that the NYTimes printed were all made up.
And I'm especially glad to hear you confirm that Judith Miller's stories about WMDs in Iraq, Saddam's connection to Al Qaeda, and Saddam's stockpiles of nuclear weapons were also made up.
Remember when Cheney went on Meet the Press and told Russert that the evidence of Saddam's WMDs and nuclear weapons were being reported in the New YOrk Times?

Let me get this right Mrs. Green, you are saying that the NYT or New York Times or the Gray Lady or the Newspaper of Record was reporting ALL of the information that was availble during the Clinton impeachment and Monica Lewinsky scandal.
C'mon Mrs. Green it's me you're talking to here. I know you wouldn't try and pass an outright lie off to Marie and I but maybe you are doing what the New York Times does and has become so common place for them.
Yes, they do report the story, that part is true, they have no choice but it's the way they go about reporting the story that makes all the difference in the world. If they coveniently leave out key pieces of information and insert their own opinion then that story automatically becomes moot and it no longer counts as being an accurate report of the story.
This is how the New York Times does it. I don't have time to give you any examples right now but you know what I say is the truth about them and if you deny that you are denying the truth and I know you know better than that.

Just remember, ole Nazi Pelousy promised to have the "most ethical congress in history." Sort of parroting Bill Clinton's "most ethical Administration in history."
And we all know how that worked out.
We still know more about Mark Foley's emails than we do about Jeffersons freezer full of cash, or Pelousy's demand for a big plane.
Meanwhile, Scooter Libby gets convicted for failing to remember what he had for breakfast three years ago and Sandy Berger gets probation for what the Archives called "a breach of National Security" of our most sensitive documents.

So naturally, if any of us call Edwards a "Breck Girl" we'll be punished. But Edwards can trot around as if he speaks for Jesus all the while violating Mary Cheney's privacy.
