And I Thought I had Seen It All In Oklahoma
A Hurricane, In Oklahoma?
This was an unusual event to say the least. Evidently Tropical Storm "Erin" was just passing through Oklahoma until it got caught up in our jetstream and what happened next was stunning. Weather forecasters were going crazy trying to keep up with this event and on every channel they were all saying "I dont know how to describe this to everyone but we have a Hurricane in Oklahoma!!" They couldnt send out the storm chasers because they had no idea where or when a Tornado might touch down. Get a load of this:
Hurricane/Tropical Storm Erin Over Oklahoma
Here is a snip of what the weather forecasters were saying:
It is hard to believe but the remnants of Erin have strengthened a bit and it is now classified as Tropical Depression Erin. The area of low pressure is currently over Oklahoma. With the low to our south and moisture being drawn into the area we are looking at a day with more clouds than sun and also on and off showers and thunderstorms. Some of the rain may be heavy in spots. Already this morning heavy downpours have been occurring over parts of Lafayette, Ray, and Carroll Counties in Missouri.
From Gary: "Below are two pictures of Erin showing the radar ehoes from around 6:40 AM this morning. Erin had, what appeared to be an eye. Look at this, it is really amazing! And, even more so that Kansas City is being left high and dry so far. It still makes no sense to me. Hopefully later today we will get some rain. We certainly have the influence from the clouds of this tropical system"
What a night in Oklahoma! This has got to be one for the record books.

hope everyones safe and sound there !
'Éirinn go Brách' *
*That's the correct Gaelic spelling for the term "Ireland Forever!" Or Americanized "Erin go bragh!"
In this case, I hope Erin has blown herself out and is NOT forever!
You can borrow my little boat if you need it Marie. I watched them using air boats on the main street in one of the towns in Oklahoma last night on the news. Gosh, I hope things dry out soon down there for ya, sheesh!!!
"O-k-l-a-h-o-m-a- where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain ...."
Kind of puts a new twist the the musical doesn't it ? Hope everything is alright Marie.
Living on the coast I know how troublesome and unpredictable these storms can be. Whether on the shore or inland they are dangerous.
Why is it that you and Gayle are always bragging about the rainfall you get?
Here I am living at the water's edge in hurricane alley and I have to spend nearly $100 a month to water my garden.
Send some of that stuff this way.
Be careful what you wish for Mike. It's still only the middle of August and with all this global balone er er... I mean global warming you might actually get a hurryrain this year.
Somehow....it must all be George Bush's fault and global warming!
It's always worst when a weather anomalie hits someplace that isn't accustomed to its ilk -- there are no preparations in place to deal with it, as in a region unaccustomed to more than flurries being suddenly hit by a major blizzard, or the recent flooding in Gayle's neck of the woods.
I pray that all is okay with you and yours, Marie.
I'm glad you are okay, Marie!
The dang thing passed right over us and went on up to Oklahoma before it dumped. Go figure! It's really strange, alright. Oklahoma is much further away from the Coast than we are and we didn't get anything but a light rain out of this. Very weird!
Gayle said...Go figure! It's really strange, alright
Nah, it's George Bush's weather machine, there must be a lot of poor people where he had the rain fall.
I just thought this was the darndest thing I had ever seen in Oklahoma.
Oklahoma City is just fine where I am but Stillwater to the North West of me got hammered.
This whole thing was just weird.
I thought it was hillarious listening to the forcasters on the news not knowing how to treat a Hurricane in Oklahoma lol
Hi Marie
I've been watching the US news with amazement at the flooding in the mid-west!
Hope you are staying afloat!
