The worst pardon that Clinton granted, IMHO, was to Marc Rich, whose lawyer was I. LEWIS "SCOOTER" LIBBY.

Ironic, isn't it?

Clinton was impeached by the House and acquitted by the Senate.

The Senate acquitted President Clinton of both articles of impeachment. The perjury charge was defeated with 55 "not guilty" votes and 45 "guilty" votes. On the obstruction-of-justice article, the chamber was evenly split, 50-50.

Clinton was accused, but acquitted in accordance with our Constitution.

The Plame investigation was urged by the Bush CIA and commenced by the Bush DOJ, Libby's conviction pursued by a Bush-appointed federal prosecutor, his jail sentence imposed by a Bush-appointed "tough-on-crime" federal judge, all pursuant to harsh and merciless criminal laws urged on by the "tough-on-crime/no-mercy" GOP. Lewis Libby was sent to prison by the system constructed and desired by the very Republican movement protesting his plight.

Two out of the three Republican appointed judges on the Appeals Court agreed that Libby's sentence was correct.

All "law and order" Republican appointed prosecutors and judges agreed with the finding that LIbby was guilty of the crimes he was accused of.

Libby was convicted of those crimes by jury of his peers presided over by a Bush appointed "law and order" judge.

People have argued that there was no underlying crime connected to Libby's case.

There was no underlying crime connected to Clinton's either. It is not against the law to get a BJ.

It is against the law to lie under oath and to obstruct justice.

Both Clinton and Libby were accused of those felonious crimes. Clinton was acquitted, Libby was convicted.

The Senate acquitted Clinton, and George Bush negated the judge and jury's decisions.

If you believe Bush's poll numbers were low, wait till you see how the American people react to this.

Actually, joanne, your hero and role model, Mr. Clinton, was disbarred in Arkansas for perjury.
You are entitled to your own opinion, as Daniel Patrick Moynihan (Democrat, New York) used to say, but you are not entitled to your own facts.

C'mon Joanne 75 percent of the people can't name the current Vice-President and have no idea about Scooter Libby and what he did. The real ironic thing was the Special prosecutor went after Libby and still pursued him on a "gotcha" charge even after he knew Richard Armitage (a Colin Powell protege at the State dept.) leaked the name of Valerie Plame.

In a week's time you won't hear the name Scooter Libby for years to come unless he decides to represent William Jefferson for freezing 90 grand.

William Jefferson Clinton got what was coming to him and his place in American presidential history is quite secure at being one of only two prseidents to be impeached.

Uncle Pavian,

I don't say anything about Clinton's disbarrment in my post. And please point out any factual errors in what I did post.

You didn't address my points at all.

J_G,

No one was more disappointed and angry than I at what Clinton did. He deserved to be disbarred.

And you're probably right that most people don't even know who Libby is.

But Libby was not prosecuted for exposing an undercover CIA agent. He was prosecuted for lying under oath and obstructing justice.

Why would he do that if he had nothing to hide? Don't you wonder why he lied?

Maybe we can get an idea of why Libby lied from his own lawyer who said this in Libby's trial:

"They're trying to set me up. They want me to be the sacrificial lamb," attorney Theodore Wells said, recalling Libby's end of the conversation. "I will not be sacrificed so Karl Rove can be protected."

Who could "they" possibly be? Why did Libby's lawyer say this in court in Libby's defense? Why did Libby say he wouldn't be sacrificed so Rove could be protected. Protected from what?

and more:

Wells said "[Karl Rove] was viewed as a political genius. ... He had to be protected. The person who was to be sacrificed was Scooter Libby." According to Wells, the vice president tried, unsuccessfully, to persuade White House colleagues to publicly clear Libby's name as the source of the leak.

What on earth does all this "sacrifice" mean. Could it be something criminal had to be covered up, therefore, the sacrifice of Libby?

Ted Wells, Mr Libby’s lawyer, durng the trial, showed on a giant television screen the fragment of a memo written by Mr Cheney after a meeting with his former aide. It offers a voyeuristic insight into his pugnacious, combative character: "Sacrifice the guy that was asked to stick his neck into the meat grinder because of the incompetence of others."

Mr Wells explained that Mr Libby had gone to Mr Cheney after the special prosecutor began his investigation in late 2003 to express concern that he was being made the fall guy to protect Mr Rove, the president’s chief political adviser. "Rove was the person most responsible for keeping the Republican party in office. His fate was important to be protected. The person who was to be sacrificed was Scooter Libby," Mr Wells said.

I've never excused Clinton for the Lewinsky scandal. Never.

I don't idolize men because they hold office.

As we approach another 4th of July, I give my allegiance to the greatest document ever written, the US Constitution.

Love your country.

Happy 4th.

Clinton got what he deserved, hebrought shame upon himself (I don't think that makes much diofference to him) but he brought shame to the Office in which he was elected to serve. Scooter Libby got a $250k fine and was disbarred. Clinton did no jail time and neither will Libby. I think justice has been served.

Joanne,

Are you missing the entire point here?

Lewis Libby never leaked the damn name to begin with!

Perjury? If Clinton can get off with lying to the Amirican People I'm sure Libby can get through whatever it was he did that made all this friggen nonsense into perjury.

President Clinton can pardon anybody on a whim and President Bush cant?

Think NOT!

Bush is still the Commander-In-Chief Of these United States and he has the Authority to Pardon whomever he pleases whenever he sees fit. He is the President.

It sure is sad when one President can do everything his predessessor did and is still be ridiculed.

I think Joanne is forgetting the Puerto Rican terrorists that Clinton pardoned among other despicable people.

Marie:
I was so proud of Bush for doing this and am incredulous at the howls on the left in response. The Democrat Underground linked to my Scooter Libby post and called me all kinds of nice names. Another liberal blogger actually liked the way I did my post and linked to me only to have some other liberal foaming at the mouth in the comments' section about me. Yikes, some of these Dems need to go back on their meds.

Dee,

Joanne is also forgetting Clinton pardoned Hillary's brother for "Money Laundering"! And like Uncle P said all those pardons that were given to drug runners, etc.. on 1-20-01

Perjury? Is that the best they could do with Libby? Perjury? If the Liberals could take this entire adminsitration out and hang them in front of the White House, they would all be lining up to be the hangmen!

These people are nutballs! Libby didnt even leak anyones name but the Liberals sqwak and whine and demand this and that and watch there will be an investigation into this LOL. More Tax Payer money wasted on another stupid investigation that will produce what we all know, and what the President had every right to do!

Unfriggenbelievable

Well you know you have done a good job when you have pissed off the Democratic Underground lol.

I have never been over there but maybe I should look them up :-)

Unjustly imprisoned Border Agents Ramos and Compean...deserve the same mercy afforded to Mr. Libby.

When do you think Presidente Arbusto will step up and pardon Ramos and Compean?

Switchboard: 202-456-1414

We need to be aware that commute is not the same as pardon.
