Hold Onto Your Resolve America

Baghdad Offensive Set To Begin:

BAGHDAD - A U.S.-Iraqi campaign to stabilize Baghdad will begin soon and the offensive against militants will be on a scale never seen during four years of war, American officers said on Sunday.

Briefing a small group of foreign reporters, three American colonels who are senior advisers to the Iraqi army and police in Baghdad said a command center overseeing the crackdown would be activated on Monday.

"The expectation is the plan will be implemented soon thereafter," Colonel Doug Heckman, senior adviser to the 9th Iraqi Army division, said at a U.S. military base in Baghdad.

"It's going to be an operation unlike anything this city has seen. It's a multiple order magnitude of difference, not just a 30 percent, I mean a couple hundred percent," he added, referring to previous offensives that failed to stem bloodshed.

The plan will involve U.S. and Iraqi forces sweeping the capital's neighborhoods for militants and illegal weapons and then holding cleared areas.

All three officers sought to talk up the ability of Iraq's forces to perform better than in previous crackdowns.

The joint offensive is seen as a last-ditch effort to halt all-out civil war between minority Sunni Arabs and politically dominant majority Shi'ites.

President Bush is sending 21,500 reinforcements, most earmarked for the Baghdad offensive.

Critics of Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki say an offensive last summer failed because the Iraqi army committed too few troops and because he was reluctant to confront the Mehdi Army of radical cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.

The firebrand cleric is a key political ally of Maliki.

NO BARRIERS

Asked if the Mehdi Army's stronghold in Sadr City would be cleaned out, Heckman acknowledged the political sensitivity but said all options were open.

"If we feel we need to clear Sadr City to bring stability, we will do that. Are there restrictions that will not allow us to do that? Right now there are not," Heckman said.

Maliki has vowed the crackdown will tackle militants across the sectarian divide. The Pentagon has said the Mehdi Army poses a greater threat to peace in Iraq than Sunni Islamist al-Qaeda.

The Baghdad command center that will begin operations on Monday will be headed by an Iraqi general. However, U.S. troops will not take orders from Iraqi officers.

Colonel Chip Lewis, senior adviser to a national police division in Baghdad, said the Iraqi security forces were more confident than they were before the last offensive. At that time, some Iraqi units did not show up.

Heckman said the offensive would gradually build up.

"The end of the summer is when we should see some concrete results and be able to say is this working or not," Heckman said. That would be around September.

One problem that bedeviled last summer's offensive was the reluctance of Iraqi soldiers in the regionally recruited army to be deployed in the capital, far from their homes and families.

This time soldiers will get pay bonuses to come to Baghdad and will be given a finite tour of duty, so they know their deployment will not be open-ended, the American officers said.

Another difference would be the establishment of what the officers called joint security stations, which will be set up in nine Baghdad districts and where Iraqi and American troops will live and patrol side-by-side.

Don't look for that turncoat Jim Webb to be standing behind anyone. I'm going to do a post on him this week because he really pissed me off watching his stinkin, lying, turncoat ass on Chris Wallace yesterday. I hope for the sake of our troops that they are able to turn things around quickly. I am behind them with everything I have. Now we need to beat down and I literally mean beat down the turncoat and liberal voices that would have us lose this war. I'm on the warpath so if you want to challenge me and my support of the troops be aware I will pull no punches and I will lay you flat out. I'm sick and tired of turncoat assholes and self serving liberal morons tearing this country apart for nothing more than the spoils of political gain. Go ahead step across that line if you dare! The gloves are off.

You know what I'm really going to enjoy is when this strategy is successful as it seems to be showing and the insurgency and terrorism in Iraq is controlled while the government and security forces step up to the plate, it will be a thrill to watch the RHINO's and the Democrats eat crow. Of course they will find a way to take credit or look for something else to blast the President about, but you will be able to hear the panic in their statements and the desperation in their voices.

JG,

I have been really sick the last few weeks with one thing or another but I feel I am starting to improve a bit and I am really in a foul mood.

I missed Jim Webb on Chris Wallace.

I know you are behind our Troops, Some of us have NEVER lost our resolve.

I know one thing, if I was to get out on the road at this point and see a "Code Pink" sticker on a car, that car will end up in a ditch somewhere along my travels, yes I am that mad!

I know what you mean by "Literally"

It's alway's fun to see you pissed off lol

Don't look for that turncoat Jim Webb to be standing behind anyone.

His son is a Marine and is fighting with The Troops in Iraq. I hope you support the "turncoat's" son. Or would that make you a turncoat supporter, removed once?

Why such venom, JG? Mr. Webb comes from a distinguished military family. You don't like his politics. That doesn't make him a traitor.

You have a lot of hatred seething in you. Ever try to figure out where it comes from?

Senator Webb served his country with honor, as did his father, as is his son.

Bush has been in charge of this war. He's been able to do whatever he wanted, and has changed generals now to get his surge on.

What prevented him from doing this, say, 3 years ago? The protesters in the streets? The minority party in Congress? No. None of them had the authority or power to do so. And he wouldn't listen to them anyway.

So my question to you is why is he surging now? He knew the war was going badly one year into it.

The majority of the American people do not support this war, they said so in November. The Iraq Study Group gave the president suggstions and a plan to end our involvement.

Bush ignored both the American people and the ISG report and is doing what he wants to do in Iraq.

You cannot face that the reasons things are so awful in Iraq is because the handling of the war has been incompetent. Not because people in the streets held signs protesting the war.

This is Bush war. No one else's. He got the authority he wanted and then made a gigantic mess of the ME with it.

That is what you should be angry about.

Not Jim Webb.

Mrs Green,

Let me have a crack at one of your statements Mrs Green,

Ya know I Love ya but you are WRONG!!!

President Bush doesnt give two hoot's in hell about protesters in the streets, he even encourages such idiotic behavior. President Bush does not try to do the Popular thing, he tries to do the right thing.

The Iraq Surrender report is just that, a report based on the surrender, retreat-in-defeat of our Troops. Our troops want to see this mission through to the end, they want to finish this and be able to come home with thier heads held high.

There is NO draft going on here, everyone who has enlisted since 9-11 and re-enlisted have said "Send Me", basically the idiots protesting in the streets arent even drawing the crowds they would if this Nation honestly believed we are doing the "Wrong" thing. They are just out there looking stupid and passing around the bong. THE 60'S ARE OVER!!

I also draw the line with these protesting morons once they start spitting on our troops, and demean them while they are having thier little "March", they have no agenda besides political, and truth be told I see any of this nonsense going on and someone spit on a Troop in front of me, they will be lucky to be standing a second later!.

Sometimes the people and some of our elected officials are wrong, and they are wrong now, no matter how they voted in November.

President Bush has made it clear this is not an open ended committment. This is it. With fresh eyes on this situation and a change of guard on the ground so to speak, and the Iraqi Army taking the lead with American forces backing them up, thier arms now untied, they will finally be able secure this insurgent situation, kill the bad guys, and break things the way they should be allowed to operate.

THIS IS NOT BUSH'S WAR!!! THIS IS AMERICA'S WAR!! President Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act On October 31, 1998 giving the go ahead for he or any US President to do what was needed to Liberate Iraq! The United Nations (UGH) Passed the Resolution 1441 Both Houses of Congress voted for Liberating Iraq, and when the going gets tuff, the first thing these cheesepuffs do is want to run, hide, pullback to Okinawa!@#$%$#@!, and withdraw!

Are you people really crazy? Or do you all just pretend NOT to remember ANY of this?

Name for me ONE war where there havent been mistakes made, Generals fired/and/or/changed, and fresh eyes put on the suituation?

You cant because it has happened every single time we have been at war.

I suggest you go back and read reolution 1441 and the Iraq Liberation Act before you wield this crap.

I will be supporting Jim Webb's son because he obviously believes in the mission or he would never have enlisted to begin with. But dont look for support from me for Jim Webb, he is a turncoat who is out for his own political future and if you dont see it you are blind!

Agreed. He doesn't care about popular opinion, and I believe he truly believes he's doing the right thing. We agree on this.

See, here is where we have a problem. What exactly is "seeing this mission through to the end?" Bush removed Hussein, tried, and hanged him. The Iraqis held elections. Why are we now intervening in their civil war? That was NOT the mission. Bush accomplished his mission.

Hold on there. Who, exactly, has spit on our troops? Don't make stuff up to make your point. That's not worthy of you. No one, not even Fox News, has reported that. C'mon.

And I think you've misunderstood me. I've always said that it is the way in which the war was conducted that has placed our troops in such dire situations.

The planners got it all wrong, wrong, wrong.

We were not greeted as liberators, there were no WMDs, and it wasn't a "cakewalk."

The Iraqis want us out of there. It is their country, isn't it? Didn't Bush liberate them? Don't you listen to what the Iraqi leaders have been saying? They. Want. Us. To. Leave.

ANyway, I'm not going to dissuade you, I know.

I hope you're feeling better. Make youself some chicken soup and stop watching the news for a day or so.

Now I'm going to hide out somewhere because I have a feelin JG is going to throw a friggin' refrigerator (or two) at me when she comes and reads what I've written.

Later.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why should the President care about popular opinion, when popular opinion is WRONG!!??
He is the President and knows what is better for this Country than any of us do. He is the one who get's Daily Intelligence Briefings, which I might add are alot more informative NOW than they were before 9-11.
See, here is where we have a problem. What exactly is "seeing this mission through to the end?" Bush removed Hussein, tried, and hanged him. The Iraqis held elections. Why are we now intervening in their civil war? That was NOT the mission. Bush accomplished his mission.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Iraqi's are interviening in thier own security, with the help of American and Coalition forces. This is NOT a "Civil War", It is an "Insurgency". Everyone wanted the Iraqi Army to handle thier own security, well here is thier chance. You can NOT expect the Iraqi forces to handle all this completely on thier own when they had an Army start from scratch! They still need American and Coalition help. You wouldnt just throw a child on a bicycle and tell them "Have at it" without showing them how to ride it first would you?

Hold on there. Who, exactly, has spit on our troops? Don't make stuff up to make your point. That's not worthy of you. No one, not even Fox News, has reported that. C'mon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh PLEASE!!! It was all over Fox News and other email that I got from other News sources! The "Peace" protestors (Yeah Right) spit on our Troops that were protesting against the Protest. Hell, just google Veteren spit on at anti-war rally and see what you get! Or go to Fox news and look up last week's Hannity and Colmbs, they had the guy on thier broadcast!! I make nothing up, I cant help it if you dont keep up with what the hell is going on! Those varments should have clocked on sight and by God I would have clocked them! People are getting sick to death of this shit!
And I think you've misunderstood me. I've always said that it is the way in which the war was conducted that has placed our troops in such dire situations.
The planners got it all wrong, wrong, wrong.
We were not greeted as liberators, there were no WMDs, and it wasn't a "cakewalk."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I will give you this, the way we first went in was brilliant, they should have planned for an insurgency, that is the only part I will agree with. Had Tommy Franks stuck around, none of this mayhem would have occured, but he retired without thinking about the insurgency.

But the way this war has been conducted has been brilliant, compare the deaths of this war to that of Viet Nam, by the 4th year of Viet Nam we were on the verge of losing 50,000 troops, we havent lost 4000! Every single life lost is precious, but this is war, and is to be expected when batteling the enemy and this has been a relatively low number of Slodiers lost compared to any other war because the Troops have done a magnificent job, all things considered.

We were not greeted as Liberaters? Well what do you call all the Iraqi's waving in the American Troops when they came rushing in to Baghdad and helped tear down the statue of Saddam Hussien? They looked like they were plenty happy to see us! Tell me you missed that one and I will tell you once again you are wrong because it was all over every single channel not just Fox News, and I still have it on Video tape!

No there were no WMD (In large quantities) Faulty intelligence? Yes! By us entirely? NO! EVERYBODY and I mean EVERYBODY had the exact same intelligence. EVEN PRESIDENT CLINTON!! But wasnt that brilliant for Saddam to make it look like he had WMD all this time? He had it, he used it on his own people and the Iranians, and there are still questions as to what he did with the rest of it! Not to most of us though, we know this stuff was shipped over to Syria just before we hit the ground.

The Iraqis want us out of there. It is their country, isn't it? Didn't Bush liberate them? Don't you listen to what the Iraqi leaders have been saying? They. Want. Us. To. Leave.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Iraqi's want to be able to handle thier own Country, Maliki seems like he NEVER want's us to leave that's why President Bush has said "This is NOT an open ended committment"
SOME of the Iraqi people want us to go but the general concensus of them want us to STAY! Because they KNOW what will happen once we leave.
You need to wake up Mrs Green, the Iraqi Army has been working thier asses off being trained, and attempting to take control of thier own Country, to Sustain themselves, Defend themselves, and Govern themselves, they have accomplished 2 of these feats. They are owed the chance to Defend themselves.
Jesus Christ! It's time you and the rest of the left wing loones to put all your energy in backing our Troops and backing the Iraqi Troops and let's let them finish this so Iraq can be stable! Is it always going to be stable? NO! But they will have a better chance at dealing with this shit on thier own once they find out for sure they can!!!
You guy's on the left need to pull your heads out of your asses and get with the program!
Mrs Green,
Here is an excerpt from the Story Of The Iraq War Vet that got spit on during the so called "Peace Rally"
COLMES: You see if we can — oh, we're not talking.
Joining us now, FOX News radio's Griff Jenkins and Iraqi war veteran Joshua Sparling. He took part in a counter protest to the capital weekend. And let me begin with you both.
Sparling, let me begin with you. There was a controversy, as you know, about whether you were spit upon. Can you tell us what happened?
JOSHUA SPARLING, IRAQ WAR VETERAN: Yes. Nice to talk to you, by the way. What we are doing, actually, is doing the anti-protest protest. And we were there with our flags. And all that happened I was — a fellow saw me wear my 82nd Airborne sweater, and I noticed he also had an 82nd patch on his own sleeve.
And he said I was a disgrace, basically, and that I was — that I had blood on my hands and that I had no right wearing the uniform. And he spit at me.
COLMES: And you spit back?
SPARLING: Of course I did not.
COLMES: That's what was reported. So that did not happen?
SPARLING: No, sir, it did not.
COLMES: But this was directed specifically at you, as far as — Griff were you there? Did you witness this?
JENKINS: I did not witness that, Alan. Good to talk to you. Excuse me. But I would offer that, for a peace march, you know, spitting on war veterans and also vandalizing satellite trucks is not exactly extolling the virtues of MLK Jr. or Mohatma Gandhi .
COLMES: First of all, I would denounce that anybody could spit on anybody. It's horrible. But is this — are you suggesting this is representative of the antiwar movement, or is this one person acting like a jerk?
The entire story lies Here
Mrs Green,
I dont just make stuff up off the top of my head and splatter it all over my blog. I present stories with fact's, and link's to back them up!!
Fox News was just recently called out on their lies for reporting that Barak Obama attended a "madrassa" when he was a child.
A reporter from CNN actually went to Indonesia and discovered that the "madrassa" was a secular school attended by both girls and boys and that the Koran was not taught there.
Two of Fox's reporters ran this false story on Obama's early school days. And that's not the first time that Fox has been wrong in its reporting.
Fox News is the propaganda arm of the Bush Administration, IMHO.
As with everything, there are two sides to this spitting story:
"...most recently, Sparling also appeared in an AP story about the past weekend's anti-war march, this time neglecting to mention the spitting incident.
About 40 people staged a counter-protest, including Army Cpl. Joshua Sparling, 25, who lost his leg to a bomb in Iraq.
He said the anti-war protesters, especially those who are veterans or who are on active duty, "need to remember the sacrifice we have made and what our fallen comrades would say if they were alive."
(A YouTube video from the weekend march shows Sparling standing next to a sign that reads, "If Osama was a piece of ass, Clinton would have nailed him.")
So the New York Times, Washington Post and others did not choose just any random Iraq war vet to interview. a Google search of "Joshua Sparling" yields 64,800 results.
And it is worth noting that the major media chose to cover this from the angle of "antiwar protesters spitting at veterans." There was another story available. The marchers represented the views of, according to current polls, a majority of the American public. Joshua Sparling was part of a group that appeared to be attempting to provoke the crowd. A witness to the activities of Sparling's group is quoted at the blog Hughes for America, saying,
"Shortly after the event began, I noticed Sparling and his small group -- himself, a woman wearing the same 82nd Airborne sweatshirt and another young man -- push their way to the front. ... When everyone would cheer a particular speaker, he first stood out by loudly booing. ... Sparling's [fellow counter protesters] across the street had spent the better part of an hour holding up ridiculous signs like 'Anti-American peaceniks think sedition is patriotic' and 'We gave peace a chance. We got 9/11.' Also, they hung an effigy of Jane Fonda. These weren't friendly people. They were people looking to provoke a response.
... Before I even noticed Sparling's leg, I thought the kid was a right-wing plant in our group. I thought we were going to be marching, peacefully, and this kid would break a window or otherwise do something to make for an ugly scene, making what was actually a peaceful protest look anything but. It looked to me like he was taking great pains to stand out in what he was doing. ... I can safely say Sparling and his group showed up looking to start something ..."
In other words, I do not believe Sparling.
Mrs. Green, read my full thoughts about Monsieur Webb at my place.
It has already started with not only disrespecting our country but now there are prominent biased news disemenators such as the Washington Post and NBC news that have hired people to discredit and belittle the troops. WaPo hired William Arkin to be a military analist and NBC news is using him too. The man is a former Greenpeace activist and a self identified Army intelligence officer from the middle 70's. (That's not confirmed) Anyway William Arkin has been let loose by his employers to finish the final job of demoralizing the troops after the public has been fed a staedy diet of doom and gloom for the last 3-4 years. They are going for the full monty with Arkin and it will now be "pile on" to defame the troops and the job they doing by because they still have a strong resolve unlike the linguini spine and amoral left wing that attack America and it's ideals day after day.
I'm tired and have to go to bed. More of JG's warpath coming soon to a blog near you.
You cannot be a liberal and support the troops or the war. Your handlers will not allow that. In the coming days your marching orders will be issued by New York Times and the other liberal media dissemination centers to attack the job the troops are doing. You will be told they are baby killers and mercenaries, you will be ordered to belittle them or you will not be accepted into your wine and cheese circles or coffee clatches. Honorably discharged veterans trying to get an education will be singled out by liberal college professors in the classrooms of our Universities to disparage them and accuse them of willfully killing innocent jihadists.
This will be the liberal standard that will be flown from every campus and every news dissemination center. The Standard will be the white flag of surrender and the vitriol will be against honorable and long suffering brave Americans willing to fight so their contrymen can say stupid and hateful things.
You cannot be a liberal and support the troops or the war.--JG
Many Republicans in Congress now oppose the administration's policies in Iraq. And I don't know of one responsible Democrat who doesn't support the troops. And please don't come up with some deranged nutball as an example.
Your handlers will not allow that. In the coming days your marching orders will be issued by New York Times and the other liberal media dissemination centers to attack the job the troops are doing.--JG
No one, NOT ONE LIBERAL IN CONGRESS HAS ATTACKED THE JOB THE TROOPS HAVE DONE. NO ONE. This is a false statement, JG, and it's unworthy of you.
You're frustrated, I know, but please don't make up stories to make a point. Otherwise, we can't have a discussion.
The Democrats have attacked the president's POLICIES in Iraq. I challenge you to find one quote by any one Democratic Senator or Congressman/woman who attacked the troops.
Don't give me Kerry's goof. Or I'll use the quote where Bush said his administration never stops thinking of ways to attack the American people as a real statement, not a goof.
As surly as I sit here typing this Mrs. Green it will be forthcoming very soon very soon indeed. I'm no fortune teller but I have been involved with politics and the military since the end of Vietnam and watched my country be taken down by the democrat party and I refuse to let that happen again.
There is so much you don't know about me and my background. You would be totally amazed from where I come. That picture you see of me is an artist's conception of me by a New York City subway artist in 2005 when I went to revisit the site of the 1964 World's Fair atFlushing Meadows. That demure looking person wasn't always me, make no mistake, I am a trained, tried and true American warrior.
