Michael Steele Come On Down

RNC asks Steele to replace Mehlman

November 10, 2006

Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman, whose party just lost both chambers of Congress, will leave his position in January, and the post as party chief has been offered to Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele.
"It is true," Mr. Mehlman told The Washington Times when asked about reports last night that he would resign. "It's something I decided over the summer. No one told me I needed to. In fact, folks wanted me to stay."

Mr. Mehlman said he "told the White House over the summer it was my decision" to leave the RNC post, "win, lose or draw."
Also last night, Republican officials told The Times that Mr. Steele, who lost his bid for the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, has been sought out to succeed Mr. Mehlman as national party chairman. Those Republican officials said Mr. Steele had not made a decision whether to take the post, as of last night.

Other Republican Party officials said some Republican National Committee (RNC) members, including state party chairmen, have mounted a move to have Mr. Steele succeed Mr. Mehlman.
But they said that President Bush's political adviser Karl Rove, who is Mr. Mehlman's mentor, would rather see Mr. Steele serve in the president's Cabinet, perhaps as secretary of Housing and Urban Development. These officials said no one has actually offered Mr. Steele either the RNC post or a Cabinet post.

..........................Lt. Gov. Michael Steele R-MD

Steele spokesman Doug Heye said last night that "I don't know of any conversations that Lt. Gov. Steele has had on this topic, but I can tell you that there are many people who have said he would be an ideal candidate, based on the race he ran this year."
"I talked to him very briefly about it today. He has not made any decisions yet about what he will do next. He is still focused on his role as lieutenant governor," Mr. Heye said.

Mr. Steele is one of the most successful and respected black Republicans in the country. He served as the elected Maryland Republican Party chairman before running for lieutenant governor.
The White House, RNC and National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) were pleased with what they called his tough but dignified performance as senatorial candidate in a liberal state that last elected a Republican senator in 1980. The NRSC had enough confidence in him as a candidate that it directed large amounts of money into independent expenditures on behalf of his campaign in the closing days.

Mr. Mehlman also told The Times he will not step down as Republican national chairman until the RNC's annual winter meeting in Washington. He said he also "will do an intensive after-action review" of the campaign.
The outgoing RNC chief was a regional political director for the 2000 Bush presidential nomination and general election campaigns and then was named White House political director after Mr. Bush's election.

Steele says he would take RNC post if asked...

Mudkitty,

I thought so, Steele ran a great campain and he really should have stood a chance.

I think he would have been great, but all the crap members of his own race, and the far left Lunatics threw at him, people actually believed this nonsense and voted for the other guy!

Steele will make a great Chairman.

You had me with the first paragraph, you lost me with the second.

Steel didn't have a chance with the anti-Bush wave.

But I do think Steel will moderate the republicans. The GOP really needs smarter people.

On this we agree. The constant attacks from the Lunatic left gave Steele NO chance, they called him every racial slur known to man.

And I think the GOP needs smarter people myself. If they let this happen to our Country, they deserve to get tossed!

I was going to post "Why? So Kos, the NAACP, and Moveon.org can call him an Oreo some more?"

But I agree he, or Rick Santorum, should lead the RNC into 2008!

I sure hope Santorum stays in Politics somewhere, he was a good man who stood up for what he believed in.

He will be missed even by those of us that dont live in Pennsylvania.

mudkitty is a racist liar.

Funny how some Dems claimed that Ford's loss for the TN Senate seat was due to racism, but ignored the losses of Blackwell in Ohio, Swann in PA and Steele in MD, all of whom had to put up with racist slurs from Democrats.

If you can't come up with evidence and links to where this actually happened, all you're repeating is
hearsay. Okay?

However, I actually SAW the dirty ad the RNC ran about Ford. I saw the white woman/call girl inviting Ford to call her. There's my evidence.

Where's yours?

You and Mike's America have nothing but accusations.

Sorry, Marie, not convincing.

Here's the piece on the Michael Steele controversy you linked to:

Collins reported that the two employees have since resigned and committee officials said they have destroyed the document.

The committee said they have immediately reported the incident to the Washington, D.C., U.S. Attorney's Office, and have since issued an apology.

"While the DSCC did not authorize the employees to access Mr. Steele's credit report, we regret that this incident occurred and apologize to Mr. Steele," DSCC spokesman Phil Singer told 11 News.
Singer's statement continued, in part, by saying "the DSCC also launched an internal review into this matter, ascertained that it was an isolated incident and has put safeguards in place to ensure that no employee ever does this again."

Now I remember in some previous posts how proud you were that your Republican Congressman, Mark Foley, at the very least, did the honorable thing and resigned after word got out that he was a pedophile. You thought he was honorable for doing so.

Well what's good for the goose is good for the...well you know. How honorable that the DNC made those people resign and apologize!

Next, I went to the GOP site about the Dean accusations, and all I read there was hearsay. No hard evidence. Nothing on video—you know, like George Allen actually calling an American a “macaca” on video? It was all he said/she said, which wouldn’t be allowed in a court of law.

As for the oreo cookie incident, no one can agree, not even Steele, on what happened. He says there may have been one oreo cookie on the floor, hardly a bombardment, and he can't attest to how it got there.

Here is his direct quote:

"Steele, however, said an Oreo cookie rolled to his feet during the debate.

"'Maybe it was just someone having their snack, but it was there,' Steele said. 'If it happened, shame on them if they are that immature and that threatened by me.'"

And is there any ANY evidence on who brought the purported oreo cookie the gathering? Y'know Karl Rove is legendary for his dirty tricks. Who could deny that one of his henchmen didn't do it to make the other side look bad?

Karl Rove has done this before and has been caught red handed doing it.

The senior Bush had him fired from working on his campaign for engaging in dirty tricks and making the other side look bad.

Again, you've posted a piece that showed some workers for Chuck Shumer who were fired for snooping, and then a piece about Steele that is hearsay.

Here's more on the "oreo" incident with actual quotes from Steele:

According to numerous reports in the Washington Times, Steele was "pelted" with Oreo cookies, which signifies a racial slur for being black on the outside and white on the inside.

Times reporter S.A. Miller is one of the writers who referenced the incident in news articles on more than one occasion. Miller told WTOP he attended the event in 2002 and saw Steele get hit with cookies.

When pressed, Miller said he couldn't swear in court that Steele did get hit with cookies because he didn't actually see it happen.

On Tuesday, Steele told WTOP that he was never hit with Oreos and said the incident has been exaggerated.

"I've never claimed that I was hit, no. The one or two that I saw at my feet were there. I just happened to look down and see them," Steele said.

http://www.wtop.com/?sid=622881&nid=428

See? There's a difference between the evolving oreo story that changed every time Steele or others talked about it. And then there was the actual video of Rush Limbaugh ignorantly claiming Michael J. Fox went off his medicine so he would shake more in his pro-stem cell video.

Poor, ignorant Rush, couldn't even get his lies straight. When you're off your Parkinson's meds, you actually STOP MOVING! You take your meds to keep movement going, otherwise you freeze up.

But that's just another incident of Druggie Rush's know-nothing blatherings.

Why anyone listens to his uninformed bloviations is a mystery to over 60% of Americans.

I never said ANYTHING Mark Foley did was Honorable! DONT PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH THAT I NEVER SAID! And the RNC police's themselves they take them own selves out of the picture if they have done anything wrong unlike the DNC!

Hell, Gerry Studds the Democratic pedophile from MA didnt even step down after he actually HAD SEX with a Male White House Page. All he got was Censured, and kept getting re-elected by you lunatics!

Again, you've posted a piece that showed some workers for Chuck Shumer who were fired for snooping, and then a piece about Steele that is hearsay.

That other stuff you posted was all drivel so I skipped it, and I cant believe you didnt hear any of the Racial Slur's that were hurled at Michael Steele, I know damn good an well that you heard about them. And the Video was on Hannity and Colmbs, Yeah I know (Fox) right? However it showed up on more than Fox, I saw it on of all places CNN! Everybody know's about this but You? Unreal.

But The Feds Investigating one of Schumer staffers for stealing Steele's Credit report is HEARSAY? Are you really that friggen stupid?
I never really thought you were until this point.

I honestly thought you had some brains at times Mrs Green but this takes the cake!

But then again in your view if it didnt show up on the Huffington Post, it didnt happen!!

I posted my evidence as you call it.

How about you post me some evidence where it "Didnt" Happen?

Post me something saying NONE of this was proven, and it was all a Republican Lie!!

Evidence Please! (As you say) And not from the Huffington Post!
