Santorum, Casey debate foreign policy

PHILADELPHIA - Foreign policy w, , ) and Democrat Bob Casey, with the GOP incumbent saying he had a strong grasp of international affairs and his challenger accusing the White House of moving too quickly to take military action.

Casey, leading in polls as he tries to unseat the Senate‘s third-ranking Republican, said the United States is in "worse shape" in regard to Iran and North Korea because of President Bush ‘s policies.

"I think this administration should make sure it listens to the military experts, something the Bush administration has not done very well in regards to Iraq ," said Casey.

"We cannot sit here tonight and draw a line," Casey said.

"If we are to believe that they are close to developing a nuclear weapon, I would do, I would strike, without question... Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. This is not North Korea which I believe would use it more for defensive purposes," Santorum said.

The two also differed on Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. As he has before, Casey said Rumsfeld should be fired. "We need new leadership when it comes to Iraq," Casey said.

Casey, the state treasurer, told Santorum on Tuesday he planned to release his IRS filings for the last five years, and asked Santorum to do the same. Santorum said he would.

Casey has accused Santorum of being part of the problem in Washington and voting with President Bush 98 percent of the time. Santorum has said Casey spends too many days away from his state treasurer‘s office and does not address issues.

Immigration, Social Security and the environment were also discussed Monday night.

Last month, a poll showed Casey held a 14-point lead over the incumbent among 933 likely Pennsylvania voters. The Quinnipiac University Poll had a sampling margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

I know I'm going to catch hell for this, and I know quite a few of you guy's on my blog are from Pennsylvania, but I'm scrolling through the channels lastnight and hit C-Span, there's Rick Santorum and Casey debating. I'm sorry but Casey doesnt seem to be playing with a full deck! He had to be corrected several times, and he didnt answer the questions that were given him, well in a round about way, and after being reminded to do so by the panel. And most of the proposals Casey submitted to the Public are already being done by President Bush! Santorum looked very much in charge, and is a whole lot more knowledgeable about every Policy decision and bills he co-authored. I'm not sure you guy's really want Casey do you? He seems dumbfounded quite often. Like he's not quite all there. He seems like a nice enough guy and all, but do you guy's really want HIM making Policy decisions in the Senate? There just isnt enough excitement going on in Oklahoma right now, so I thought I would pop in on other races.

There were several debates and if it was the last one they did, Casey did seem to hide his head in the sand. I would give the victory to Santorum for the last debate. The first two debates they had, I feel Casey took the trophy. Rick Santorum just showed how cocky and arrogant he is. He is not very popular because he voted himself a raise, he voted to cut medicaid and medicare funding. He basically did a John Kerry with the Medicare RX program, by voting against it before voting for it(Remember John Kerry $87 billion for the Iraq war, Santorum did that with the RX medicare program.)

Penn,

What you are seeing as cocky and arrogant I saw a man that KNOWS he's right about how to defend this Country and it probably took everything he had to not come right out and say it. It's like when you argue with someone and you know for sure you are right and it's like banging your head against a brick wall to not actually say to the person you are argueing with YOUR NUTS!! As much as Santorum wanted to, he was being polite and NOT saying that.

President Bush get's taken the same way alot, as I do myself. Well no, leave me out of it I am cocky and arrogant lol. Just kidding, I try NOT to be, but on some issues I feel so passionate about I probably do come off like that.

You have to admit Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, Social Security etc.. is a mess! All the government programs that were well intentionaly set up by Roosevelt that were ment to help the needy IN A TIME OF NEED, have been used and abused by those who choose to LIVE off these programs. There in lies the mess. No one seems to be able to agree on how to fix any of it. And this Nation is unsure if ANY of it will EVER be fixed. And it's not one particular race of people ruining it, it's everyone that lives off these programs.

However, I do agree if money has to be dumped into ANY of these programs it should be Medicare, Medicaid. We have to take care of our Disabled and Elderly no matter what the cost.

And they have all voted themselves a raise, some more than others grr.

But back to this Casey guy, the most important issue is going to be National Security, and I'm sorry but this Casey guy is just dumbfounded when asked questions about it. It was almost like he didnt have a clue except what the rest of his party is telling him to do. He appeared not to have any plan, and looked lost and unknowlegeable about most of the issues. Almost like he wanted to turn this whole thing back to a police matter. It's IMPOSSIBLE! We are at WAR! The Police cant handle this bunch of Lunatics! Unlike Santorum who KNOWS what's at stake if we dont go after those that want us all dead in the name of Jihad, Allah, or whatever thier problem is today! I mean how many times do we have to be attacked before we do something about it? I think the World Trade Centers, The Pentagon, And Flight 93 that went down in YOUR state that handed us the FIRST VICTORY in the war on terror was the biggest wake up call there ever was as to whom and what we are fighting and why! Casey just doesnt get it! I would be scared to have him up there voting on Foreign Policy issues. Maybe some other time, but not right now. You HAVE to have someone up there right now who has been there and done that during wartime. And it just doesnt appear Casey is the guy, not right now anyway.

I agree medicare and medicaid are a mess, but the problem is you don't cut funding for those who need it. I am a very huge support of welfare reform, even more than Clinton did. I very strongly support private charities helping.
The issue is not only defending the country, but his stances on social security. Santorum lost alot of suuport when he cut funding to medicare and medicaid. The polls show Casey well above Santorum in the polls.
Another thing Santorum flipped flopped on was illegal immigration. He now says he does not support amnesty, but at one time he would seek amnesty for some illegal migrant workers.
I do not agree with giving illegal immigrants amnesty, but Bob Casey sticks to his guns when it comes to his issues and what he feels is right in his mind. I am quite sure the final debate is the debate you saw, because Casey seemed to not want to answer questions and beat around the bush. The first two debates however the victory has to go to Casey.
In the first two debates Casey was right on the ball and did not hesistate like he did in the last one. I have tried endlessly to find them but PCN (Pennsylvania Cable Network) a cable television station that broadcasted them is only availible in Pennsylvania.
For governor, I am seriously thinking about a third party candidate.
Ed Rendell (D) the incumbent finally has the state back on a balaced budget, but failed ridiculosly on property tax reform.
Lynn Swann (R) is a smart guy and seems to be a great man, but his platform is so weak. He is a likeable guy, but brings alot of statistics up from the days of Govenor Tom Ridge. Governor Ridge left this state in a huge debt and a very unbalanced budget. You would swear both Republican dominant state houses were Liberal Democrats by the way they put this state in the hole.

You think you're going to catch hell from us Pennsy fellows because you've stated the obvious: Casey is an empty suit trading on his father's reputation (he was a good man, screwed by the DNC for being pro-gun and pro-choice)??

Au contraire!

I watched and listened to most of the three debates, one was sponsored and broadcast on a Philly AM radio station. Casey is a guy they shoved out onto the stage playing on the name of his father and is ill prepared to hold office higher than dog catcher.

Casey is ill informed about the issues and is unable to focus or go beyond standard sound bytes they have him practice.

Santorum is knowledgeable and confident and that's what we need. Confidence is not arrogance, it's neccessary.

Most Middle of the Staters are very conservative Marie. I think that's why so many consevatives are attracted to your blog. The consevatives of the state are fed up with social welfare states within a state, Philadelphia and Pittsburg and to some extent Harrisburg dictating to the rest of us who we will send to Washington.

Casey says he is for gun owners rights but he like his father are staunchly anti firearms but know if they come and say it that will sink their political careers.

That's just it, we know that we outnumber and out power the welfare states but they have voting scams in Philly and Pittsburg by highly organized political machines to steal the vote on every national election. The unions drive from polling place to polling place, voting for every dead person that's ever lived in Philadephia. Hell, my Grandfather who has been dead since 1962 voted for Bill Clinton. I know the scam and it is well documented.

The majority of Pennsyvanians are Pro Gun, Pro Life, Anti welfare as a way of life and for winning in Iraq. The social welfare states have far too much to say in respect to their numbers. One day we'll get that fixed.

I know one thing, Pennsylvanians take thier politics seriously. It also makes me wonder what part of the state Purple Jesus is from lol.
Yes he is running around your state somewhere! Scary huh?

Oh My, were you able to do anything about Grandpa?

So that's where it all started, registering dead people, convicted felons, I dont know about Illegal Aliens, do you have alot of them there? We do in Okieville. But in Oklahoma we have paper ballots, and you HAVE to show a valid ID before you vote.

No wonder some of the people from Penn are pissed. I bet you guys get tired of Murtha, and stops by all the candidates stomping through there. And every election cycle everything seems to dangle there in Penn, Iowa, or Ohio.

Well back to Casey the dog catcher lol, I dont think he may even be qualified for that position. But he does appear terribly empty headed!

There was no way to get my Grandfather's name expunged from the voter roles unless we could produce a death certificate and Mom didn't want to go through all of that. They had a record of him voting until 1992 in Philadelphia. Yeah, we have plenty of illegals voting in PA. Some people are asked for ID and not others. In my district though you MUST provide ID in order to vote.

If you are a citizen you have the right to vote for anyone you choose but dammit you better be able to prove you're a legal citizen!!!!!!! What the heck is so hard about that? Damn frickin butthead demo-dumps trying to subvert our elections piss me off.

Purple person is from PA? Ah great, another nutcase roaming around, that's just dandy.

JG,

Wow, I wonder what happened in '92? Did someone catch on to this? This is truly sick, and now it makes me want to investigate my relatives, but there's just to many of them that are deceased. And I dont have all the death certificates either, but somehow this sort of voter fraud has GOT to stop!

There isnt anything hard about that to me. Why is it Republicans are for NO VOTER FRAUD, showing ID at the polls, and NOT registering Dead people, Convicted Felons, or Illegal Aliens to vote? Yet the Democrats see all this as "Disfranchisement"? Is that the only way they can win? How about coming up with a PLAN? Or when they lose, they blame it on a machine! Or they have some reason to sqwak and cry about why they lost other than looking at the mess thier party has turned into!

Yes that Lunatic Purple Jesus is running around there somewhere lol.

It's a long story about my Grandfather. The demo-dumps tried to get a hold of him and they had my Mother's address so they contacted my Mother and got her very upset when she found out they they still had her father's name on the voter roles. Mom called the election board of Philadelphia and gave her the story of the death certificate stuff and i was all to willing to make big time hay out of it but mom said just leave it be she had heard enough. Mom was having some medical problems at that time so frustrated I dropped it but vowed to stomp even harder on demo-dumps every chance I get.
