NORTH KOREA TESTS NUKE

CONFIRMED: U.S. Official: North Korea Tested Nuclear Weapon
Monday, October 09, 2006

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea said Monday it has performed its first-ever nuclear weapons test and the blast had been successfully set off underground with no radioactive leakage from the site.

An official at South Korea's seismic monitoring center confirmed a magnitude-3.6 tremor felt at the time North Korea said it conducted the test was not a natural occurrence. The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition his name not be used, because he was not authorized to talk about the sensitive information to the media.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that information still needs to collected and analyzed to determine whether North Korea truly conducted its first nuclear test.

U.S. and South Korean officials could not immediately confirm the report.

South Korea's Defense Ministry said the alert level of the military had been raised in response to the claimed nuclear test.

The North said last week it would conduct a test, sparking regional concern and frantic diplomatic efforts aimed at dissuading Pyongyang from such a move. North Korea has long claimed to have nuclear weapons, but had never before performed a known test to prove its arsenal.

The North's official Korean Central News Agency said the underground test was performed successfully.

"It marks a historic event as it greatly encouraged and pleased the ... people that have wished to have powerful self-reliant defense capability," the KCNA statement said.

"It will contribute to defending the peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the area around it."

South Korean intelligence officials said the seismic wave had been detected in North Hamkyung province, according to South Korea's Yonhap news agency. It said the test was conducted at 10:36 a.m. (9:36 p.m. EDT Sunday) in Hwaderi near Kilju city on the northeast coast, citing defense officials.

North Korean scientists "successfully conducted an underground nuclear test under secure conditions," the KCNA report said, adding this was "a stirring time when all the people of the country are making a great leap forward in the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation."

The U.S. Geological Survey said it had detected no seismic activity in North Korea, although it was not clear whether a blast would be strong enough for its sensors.

On Sunday night, U.S. government officials said a wide range of agencies were looking into the report of the nuclear test, which officials were taking seriously.

South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun has convened a meeting of security advisers over the issue, Yonhap reported, and intelligence over the test has been exchanged between concerned countries.

Kyodo News agency reported that the Japanese government has set up a taskforce in response to reports of the test.

The North has refused for a year to attend international talks aimed at persuading it to disarm. The country pulled out of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty in 2003 after U.S. officials accused it of a secret nuclear program, allegedly violating an earlier nuclear pact between Washington and Pyongyang.

Speculation over a possible North Korean test arose earlier this year after U.S. and Japanese reports cited suspicious activity at a suspected underground test site.

Well? What is next? China And Russia are Pissed. And China and Russia are the only ones who can reign in this Chia Pet Psychopath. Is Chia Pet going to go haywire like he did on the Fourth Of July and start launching Missiles at us with Nukes on them this time? All thier Nuclear Fascilities are in Populated areas of North Korea, so I dont know what would happen if we take out thier launchpads, but if we are going to I wish we would take out these launchpads out BEFORE they are Nuclear Armed!! Then we have to remember we have 30,000 troops stationed in South Korea, and I dont know how many stationed in Japan. (On the upside) Quite a bit of our Navy is stationed right off the Coast of N. Korea and Japan. We do have all our Missile Defense Systems Up And Activated. (On the Downside) Bolten said if they (N. Korea) went through with this test it would be a whole new world the day after. (I sure wouldnt want Bolten's Job, I wish they would just confirm this man so we can just get on with business!) I cant even venture a guess at what our response will be to this. I can bet however the (Useless UN) is going to want Sanctions! Isnt it a little LATE for Sanctions? Is that ALL the UN can do is issue Sanctions? I just think China and Russia better have a talk with Lunatic Chia Pet before all hell brakes loose. I wonder if it already has! God Help Us All!!

They did confirm seismic activity in North Korea and confirmed nuclear tests have been performed. We are stuck between a rock and a hard place. I hope the worthless UN can finally convince N. Korea to stop it's nuclear testing. Maybe, we can only hope, that the entire International community can come together and convince Kim Jong-Il that his nuclear tests are totally unaccepatble. I am greatful that Russia and China are opposed to the testing and will give hopefully a helping hand to diffuse the situation.
China needs to issue the sanctions, not the UN. N. Korea depends on China for aid.
According to Fox News that military action is not a feasible action either. I would only be afraid that military action would make matters worse. It is only my speculations.
I do not want to hear the Democrats blame President Bush for allowing him to develope nuclear weapons and I don't want to hear the Republicans blame President Clinton for allowing this to happen. It is neither of their faults. It is not their fault they have the materials to develope this. Neither President Bush or Clinton can control the thoughts and actions of Kim Jong-Il.
And the last note, Please don't insult poor innocent Chia Pets by calling Kim Jong Il a Chia Pet. What did a poor Chia Pet ever do to get insulted like that? LOL

Maybe we can sit around and wring our hands and send Jack Murtha over to negotiate an over the horizon quick deployment force if it's needed for the North Korean's next test.

China sanctioned these tests to tweak us and now it's time to tweak China by recognizing Taiwan and have them put their application into the UN as an independent nation while giving China the finger.

Just because people in the US buy Chinese made Wal-Mart crap doesn't mean we have to like or cooperate with communist aggression.

The situation wouldn't be as bad if the Clinton admin hadn't sold China the secrets to guided staged missles and supercomputer technology. Yeah it's the Clinton admin again, they sold the Chinese all of that and more. We are definitely less safe.

Yep stuck is the word, however I somehow think we are never totally stuck it looks that way to me but that's just MY opinion on this. But if you think the UN is going to do ANYTHING besides sanctions, well I think we have been sanctioned to DEATH!! And what else can they possibly do? The UN is becoming more Useless by the day. However you made a good point about China and Russia, they are about the only ones now who can reign this Loon in. But dont forget they warned his Lunatic ass against this and Chia Pet did it anyway.
The Military option is NEVER off the table I dont care what Fox is saying lol.

As far as the Democrats not blameing Bush, its already started, they said Bush has let it come to this point, yet the man is trying Diplomacy, yet he also wont be bullied by some crackhead in N. Korea either, and nothing makes the Liberal Lunatics happy.
Yet Chia Pet told Clinton "Oh NO I wont build any Nukes I Promise" and turned right around and started enriching Uranium the same day.
All I know is if we start moving our troops from S.Korea over to Japan, well then I would wonder what is about to happen.
Sorry for insulting Chia Pet's everywhere but look at him? He looks like someone put seeds in his head and watered his wretched ass!

Do you think it's wise to bring Taiwan into this right now? lol

I would like to give China a shot at getting this Idiot under control first before we enter Taiwan into the picture, but then again they did tell his crazy ass not to do this test and he did it anyway.

However I am all for sending Jack Murtha over there lol. He'll piss them off so bad they will arm those missiles they still have with Nuclear Warheads this time.
Murtha may get his wish, we may start sending our troops over to Japan, but they wont be coming from Iraq, they will be coming from S. Korea!

ARM JAPAN!!! That's what we have to do! They are the ones in the crosshairs this time. Ha I never thought in a million years I would be saying Arm Japan! Ironic!

Did Clinton do ANYTHING usefull while he was in office besides leave us with all these freaks?

The Bushies have had unimpeded power for 6 long years. They could have done anything they wanted to handle the situation in North Korea. Anything. The Dems had no power to stop him as he implemented policies to curb Kim Jong Il's nuclear ambitions.

SIX YEARS.

And yet you guys continue to blame Clinton for all of Bush's failures.

The American public is sick of cowardly finger-pointing and blaming other people for Bush's lack of imagination and weak-kneed policies.

The Republicans have tried to blame the Dems for the Foley Follies, and it isn't working.

It won't work with North Korea.

Six years to handle the problem, guys. Six years.

This will resonate in the American public's mind.

We won the Second World War in four years.

Bush couldn't deliver a plan to control North Korea in six years!

I call BS on him, his administration, and anyone who blames anyone else.

Please, ever since Bush has been in office he has been cleaning up Clintonista's messes. Osama, North Korea, etc. There is no excuse. Clintonista's ilk left all this for Bush to clean up and the hypocrites on the left blame Bush for all of it when it was their fault to begin with. I agree with your reader above Hillary is a dingbat.

Really? Really? So Bush has been in office for 6 years and he and his administration is so ineffectual and powerless they couldn't correct all those messes?

That's the only logical progression. Clinton made a mess, and in 6 years Bush couldn't correct it?

Six years with CONGRESS in his pocket. That means no impediment to whatever Bush wanted to do. The Democrats were powerless to override anything this president proposed to correct the putative mistakes of the Clinton administration?

This means Bush is powerless, weak-kneed, and unable to develop his own answers to the world's menaces. That is the only conclusion available. WE have the greatest military force in the world and the smartest diplomats working for us. How is it that in 6 whole years the Bushies couldn't overcome the mistakes of the Clinton administration. How can that be?

Here's how. They are incompetent and have no clue on how to govern or participate in the global community.

By the way. You are aware that Bush has said that we will not leave Iraq so long as he is president.

That means that your hero will leave the disasterous mess for the next president to solve.

What a guy.

He has failed at everything he has ever done.

Clinton did sell WWII techonology to China, which did not make me happy in 1996. You know as well China gave them to N. Korea. So I hope China can dig us out of this mess. It should be up to China to dig this mess out. that is one point that irriates me about the Clinton adminstration The good news is he does not have the technology to reach the mainland USA with his nukes, but give North Korea time and he will develope that.
The Reagan Admininistation sold weapons to Saddam Hussein and Iraq in the early 1980's. Five-hundred rusted and degraded cans of sarin gas were found buried underground. Supposedly they were sold to Iraq by the US during the Reagan Adminstraion in the early 1980's.

Mrs Green you know as well as i do that the mountain of sh** the Clintonista's left behind will take alot longer than six years to clean up. Who are you trying to fool? And clinton managed to get congress on his side most of the time on bill passing so dont hand me that his hands were tied by a republican congress, or he was powerless it just isnt true.
The Democrats are not trustable with this nations security and that's just a fact. The previous administartion has proven that. Clintonista and his legacy and forethought for the future was, screw it let the next president handle it, i'm preoccupied.

Also, the facts are that the American people are at this moment saying that they trust the Democrats more than the Republicans. Bush is at a 33% approval rating and has been there for a year.

The American people don't like him. Or his administration.

A hard rain's gonna fall for you guys.

Well lets see about all this, First the Clinton commerce dept agreed to let the US sell some of out highest tech to China and now China is experimenting with it through their proxy (as Marie so lovingly calls him) "Chia pet".

The Bush admin was the one that caught North Korea in direct violation of the 1994 failed Clinton admin agreement to stem the development of nuclear arms.

Now the Bush admin must force (not ask, not beg, not wring it's hands) force China to stop development of advanced nuclear weapons and the missiles to carry them by their client state and research division North Korea.

There is no asking, there is no anything but saying to China "STOP" the confrontation or they will have real confrontation to deal with. That's what China will have to understand. This is purely more brinkmanship perpetrated by China because it senses the weakness the US is showing by having one of their political parties turn into a group of wavering, indecisive peacenicks.

The dems make it so we have to fight it out at home to show any kind of resolve and aggressive exploiters like communist China know this and will use the always weak knee dem response to any situation to the great advantage of China.

Actually we dont know how far that Lunatic might be able to reach, and we have our Missile Defense System up and Operational no thank's to the Democrat's, they scrapped President Reagan's "Star Wars" initiative. Which at this moment, Dont you think we need?
Why the hell do the Democrats take away all our defense mechanisims?

The furthest those type of missiles N. Korea has can barely touch the edges of Hawaii, which is a threat to the US. Those type of missiles cannot reach mainland USA. Thankfully he does not have the technology to launch them into space, which would be a real threat. If he is allowed to continue he probably will develope the "star wars" technology.
At the time the star wars programs was discontinued he thought we did not have any more enemies at the time. It was an expensive program, but it had its useage in the cold war. We still have the ability to launch the nukes back into space, but I would hope we would never need to.

Pennsy said...At the time the star wars programs was discontinued he thought we did not have any more enemies at the time. It was an expensive program, but it had its usage in the cold war.

Clinton ripped our military to pieces and cancelled all programs that would defend us from a first strike. Yeah we have plenty of nukes and we can send them in anytime we want but we have no defenses against a first strike by China, North Korea or Iran WHEN they purchase the completed ands fully tested missiles. The Chinese obtained vital missile technology in the 90’s from us and then we cancelled our missile defense programs in the 90’s. We have been developing a missile defense initiative but it is still eight years behind schedule. The missiles and weapons that are now being tested by North Korea are being manned by Chinese technicians. This has been going on since we fought the War and let the Chinese keep the North. Make no mistake this is Chinese operation from top to bottom. They have it in their mind they will be the other superpower in as short as a time as they can and we’re financing it by buying Chinese made crap.

To think that China is going to help us do anything is a laugh. They will watch and laugh as the American lemmings elect a democrat congress and know that we will become so weak that they will have their superpower status much sooner than even they could have predicted.

When the cold war was going on we had the deterrent effect of "MAD "(Mutually Assured Destruction) between the Soviets and the US. That is no longer the case. Any rogue state like North Korea, China or Iran can make a launch and be pretty positive once we elect a dem controlled congress we will do nothing because the leaders will be too busy wringing their hands wondering what to do next.
