Iraqi Security Forces Approach Milestone

BAHGDAD, Iraq, - Iraqi army forces are
becoming much more capable and are increasingly taking the lead in
counterinsurgency operations, coalition officials said here
today at a news conference.
About 253,000 members of the Iraqi security forces are
trained and equipped, Army Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, deputy chief
of staff for strategic effects for Multinational force Iraq,
said. Two divisions, 16 brigades and 58 battalions make up
the Iraqi army.
Iraqi officials yesterday inaugurated a new system that
will allow commanders to exercise operational control of these
forces nationwide. Lynch said the million-dollar Joint
Operations Center that Iraqi Ground Forces Command uses at Camp
Victory gives Iraqi commanders situational awareness. Up to
now, Iraqi commanders had administrative control of the
forces. This new capability will allow the Iraqis to assess
threats, direct troops and assess intelligence.
Lynch said that Iraqi forces or Iraqi forces in conjunction
with coalition troops conduct almost 70 percent of all
operations in Iraq. "Only 30 percent of operations are
coalition-force independent operations," he said.
He cited Iraqi operations in the northern city of Mosul as
an example of the increasing Iraqi effort. About 1,500
Iraqi soldiers and police are in Mosul to stabilize the area
and provide security for residents. The only coalition-force
involvement is to provide an outer perimeter. An
interesting point in the operation is that Ninewah province police
allowed local media to accompany troops, observe them and
report on the operation.
Lynch said that by the end of the year, the Iraqi security
forces will be at full strength.

Those on the left would have us believe otherwise. There is NO Civil War, Iraqi and Coalition Troops are working side by side, and the Country has NOT gone to hell!!
But dont tell those on the left, the sky has fallen as far as they are concerned.

i think it is cool what our soldiers have done with with that country and there is no dobt in my mind the iraqis are going to take over their own counrty soon
Sick,
I dont know how old you are, but you seem to have a level head on your shoulders.
You are correct, given the Iraqi Military and Police that have been trained and willing to defend thier Country (Not those who were to scared in the beginning and threw down thier weapons and ran), are standing up all by themselves (With just a little help from coalition soldiers) and taking the fight to the enemy in Iraq. Which is Al-Zarqowi, and his followers. I have this funny feeling (I could be wrong) but I seriously think Zarqowi's days are numbered!!
And I do believe like you do that the Iraqi's are soon to take control over thier own Country, and we are slowly showing up in the background, as the Iraqi Army and Police take control which was the idea to begin with.
And people like Kerry and others demanded more troops that were never needed.
Rumsfeld had a challenge to reform the Military, some like it, some dont, but you have to admit Rumsfeld wanting more Special Forces and Special Opps is the best way to handle this war on terrorism.
Jesus: social liberal/fiscal conservative.
George W.: social conservative/fiscal liberal.
Conclusion: George W. is the anti-Christ
Once again you miss the point of this story and the realities of Iraq. Allow me to educate you on the Middle East. There will be no real lasting peace until Christ Himself returns.
Now on the second part of "there is no Civil War in Iraq"; you would be correct in the sence there is not an opposition government to the puppet government placed by the Bush "coalition". This is 2006 not 1949 or 1861 not every civil war is brought on with the advent of an opposition government. Somtimes, factions pick up arms and fight a terrorist or gorilla warfare. This is what you are seeing in Iraq. If you cannot see this in ALL levels of the media liberal - conservative - local - national - & international, then you need to learn to read other sources than the military propaganda rag. Remember if you only have one source of news you would have inaugurated Dewey instead of Truman in 1948. Yet, I guess Marie that would have worked for you Dewey was the Republican.
Lastly, for all of you Democracy loving dolts remember this: the grand ol U.S. of A. is not a Democracy it is a constitutional republic with democratic leanings. Yet, in this country law still reigns supreme. Unless, Iraq wants to take our Costitution and adopt it verbatum you will see Democracy that Bush is making the world safe for turn into Hammas and the Palestinians. WOW! I love it when the plan of democracy comes together. Thank you and Happy Mothers Day Marie. I pray that your children learn to think outside the box of parties, factions, and animosity.

Craig,
Thank's for that valuable educational lesson. I'm so happy to know you are on the ground reporting. And that I should pay absolutely NO attention to those that are serving, or those Soldiers that are reporting for the Department Of Defense, or the Armed Forces Press Service or as you call them (The Military Propaganda Rag), or those in the Government of Iraq.
You are so much more informed than they are.
Thank's I did have a wonderful Mother's Day!!
