yes yes yes Marie..lets pray!
Angel,
The only thing holding this up is the Democrat Congress!
It's time we call all our Senetor's and Congressman NOW!!!
WE HAVE TO BE INDEPENDENT OF MIDDLE EASTERN OIL!!!!
This is a great beginning and a sound move by the President. Way to go Mr. President!
Drilling offshore may help some, but I wouldn't be looking for $1
gas at the pump. Another old oil
guy is really fired up about the problem of US $$$ zipping to the mideast: http://www.pickensplan.com/theplan/
back to Bush, any idea why he refuses to open the strategic reserve?
Government forecaster says offshore drilling won’t lower gas prices
Reuters reports that in a briefing today, Guy Caruso of the Energy Information Administration — the government’s “top energy forecaster” — said expanding offshore oil drilling would do little to lower gas prices:
“It would be a relatively small effect, because it would take such a long time to bring those supplies on,” Caruso said during a briefing at the Center for Strategic and International Studies on the EIA’s new long-term international energy forecast. “It doesn’t affect prices that much.”
In 2007, the EIA also concluded that offshore drilling “would not have a significant impact” on oil prices. The remarks today come after both Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and President Bush endorsed plans to expand offshore oil drilling in response to record gas prices.
REALLY COMICAL AND UNCANNY POLITICAL TIMING THAT BUSH UNDOES HIS DADDY'S BAN ON OFF-SHORE DRILLING AND THEN SAYS, "YOUR TURN CONGRESS"...ALL THE WHILE KNOWING THAT OFF-SHORE DRILLING WILL DO NOTHING AT THE GAS PUMP FOR THE NEXT 10 YEARS...BUT TO YOU RIGHT-WING NUT JOBS, IT SOUNDS GOOD! THINK IT'S BAD NOW AND WE'RE WHINING LIKE PHIL SAYS...WAIT UNTIL HE BOMBS IRAN. I SMELL REVOLUTION...
Here's why Bush is lifting the ban. He knows that since McConnell's "new math" which raises majority vote from 51 votes to 60, the Minority in Senate can continue to filibuster and the American public will have no idea of what is going on in the chamber.
So...unless the House creates a bill that is completely NEOCONSERVATIVE, it has no chance of passing. LOL...everyone calls this the "Democrat Congress"...not quite. But most Americans don't understand how undermining the Republican party has been to the legislative process. GOP = Great Obstruction Party!
Here's the information:

Congratulations to the record-breaking Senate GOP —
Most. Obstructionist. Ever.
Posted December 19th, 2007 at 2:18 pm
For quite a while, many of us have wondered whether Republican officials in Washington have any apparent talents at all. Governing is clearly not their strong suit, but are they completely without skills?
Absolutely not. The 49-member Senate Republican minority has done something no Senate minority in American history has ever done: they’ve filibustered more bills than any Congress ever has — and they broke the record with a full year to spare.
The latest came this morning, when the Senate GOP filibustered an omnibus budget bill, the 62nd Republican filibuster since the 110th Congress began in January.
“In just one session, a minority in Congress has prevented a mind-blowing 62 pieces of legislation from going to the floor for an up or down vote,” said Campaign for America’s Future co-director Roger Hickey. “Our report shows how over and over again, the uncompromising minority has thwarted the will of majorities in Congress and of the American people, holding the Senate floor hostage to a radical right-wing agenda.” […]
Eric Lotke, Campaign for America’s Future research director and lead author of the new report, calls the obstruction a “deliberate strategy.” He observes that the congressional Republicans block legislation, then blame the Democrats for getting nothing done. “It’s like mugging the postman and then complaining that the mail isn’t delivered on time.”
Brian Young, noting the historic quality of the achievement, added, “Only a group with a near-pathological disregard for the actual health of our democracy, only a group with a single-minded focus on the cynical political strategies of their consultants, only a group with an imperious disdain for the people of the country could’ve pulled off such a feat.”
Quite right. This was a record that wasn’t meant to be broken. The “Roadblock Republican” label is not meant as a compliment.
Back in April, Trent Lott conceded publicly, “The strategy of being obstructionist can work or fail … and so far it’s working for us.”
Bill Scher reminds us that it may be working for the GOP, but it’s failing for everyone else.
What have conservatives obstructed this year? Here’s just a partial list:
– Ending the disastrous occupation of Iraq.
– Providing health insurance to millions more kids.
– Empowering Medicare to negotiate for lower prescription drug prices.
– Taking away handouts to Big Oil so we can invest in renewable energy.
– Repealing the effective ban on embryonic stem cell research.
– Investing more in health research.
– Making it easier for workers to join unions.
– Investing more in fighting poverty and training workers.
Is obstructing all of that popular legislation “working” for Republicans?
If Congress’ approval rating is any indication, the answer is no.
But it’s the speed with which the Republicans broke the record that really amazes me. The previous record took two years to accomplish; these guys broke the record in half the time. That’s like breaking the single-season home-run record before the All-Star break.
And by the way, just for good measure, let’s answer the trivia question. When was the previous record set? That would be the 107th Congress — the last time Republicans were in the minority.
It took a while, but we’ve finally found what the minority party is good at. Congratulations, Republicans, for undermining the legislative process, the will of the people, and a much-needed policy agenda to a literally historic degree.
Ken,
Yes it is :-)

BB,
Since President Bush lifted the Executive ban, gas has dropped down to 129.00 a barrell and God help us I hope it continues to drop.
President Bush is NOT going to open the Stategic Reserves, we need that in case all hell breaks loose somewhere and we really get hit!

Anonymouse,
REALLY COMICAL AND UNCANNY POLITICAL TIMING THAT BUSH UNDOES HIS DADDY'S BAN ON OFF-SHORE DRILLING AND THEN SAYS, "YOUR TURN CONGRESS"...ALL THE WHILE KNOWING THAT OFF-SHORE DRILLING WILL DO NOTHING AT THE GAS PUMP FOR THE NEXT 10 YEARS...BUT TO YOU RIGHT-WING NUT JOBS, IT SOUNDS GOOD! Totally Hillarious isnt it? I guess when Gas hit's 4.00 at the pump how DARE the President try to do anything about it?
Had Clinton lifted the ban 10 years ago, we would have that oil online NOW!
Here's why Bush is lifting the ban. He knows that since McConnell's "new math" which raises majority vote from 51 votes to 60, the Minority in Senate can continue to filibuster and the American public will have no idea of what is going on in the chamber.

So it has nothing to do with the price at the pump being over 4.00 a gallon! Keep drinking the Kool-Aid
LOL...had Bush's daddy not put the ban in place, we wouldn't be having this discussion, would we?
Bush's own Secretary of Energy is saying we would not see ANY RELIEF WHATSOEVER for 10 years! How does that help now Marie? It doesn't.
But hey, if Rush and Sean say it will, then they must be right.
How can anything be done about the economy when the President is saying, "The economy is basically sound"...when 85% of America is saying the exact opposite? If this is true, then I guess the president is calling us a bunch of idiots. Is that true, Marie? If we say we are in a recession, are we that delusional?
And you have to love it when an Oil Guy like Bush says this gem..."I feel your pain at the pump"
LOL...what a scream
Anonymouse,
Yes and had Clinton lifted the ban we wouldnt be having this dicussion either.
The Mere mention of us going after our own oil has made it drop 15.00 in just a few days. That cant be coincidence.
We are talking about oil, not the economy.
But now that you mention it without the price of oil dropping of course the economy is going to be affected.
That's what we need to do it ALL!
We can have Wind, Solar, Coal, Nuclear and yes OIL!
President Bush is feeling our pain at the pump and soon Nancy Pelosi and the Looney Left will be too.
Because we continuously call the President and bitch about it.
Now we have started on Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, and 75% of the American people want OIL NOW!
Nancy is going to have to cave on this one, now that will be a scream!
But a good scream :-)
You really believe the stuff you write, don't you? LOL...I can't tell if you're truly this clueless or you are pretending to be.
Oil prices falling had NOTHING to do with whether or not 10 years from now we will find a drop of oil in ANWR or in Enid, OK.
Here's why they fell, according to Business with Reuters:
"HOUSTON:
Oil prices plunged for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, dropping $5.33 a barrel, to $136.04, and causing a sell-off of oil stocks.
Oil analysts said the immediate reasons for the sudden drop in price included the strengthening of the dollar in recent days and the apparent veering northward of Bertha, the first hurricane of the 2008 hurricane season, meaning it was likely to miss the oil and natural gas facilities in the Gulf of Mexico.
They also noted that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran had dismissed the possibility that war with the United States and Israel was imminent in remarks to reporters in Kuala Lumpur, relieving worries that Iran might try to block oil shipments in the Strait of Hormuz.
The decline bolstered a rally in the stock market, with the Dow Jones industrial average rising 152 points, or 1.4 percent. The broader Standard & Poor's 500-stock index ended up 1.7 percent, and the Nasdaq composite climbed 2.3 percent.
But even as a barrel of oil shed more than 6 percent of its value since the Fourth of July holiday weekend in the United States, energy analysts warned that it was too soon to predict an outright collapse in prices. Some predicted that this was just one more in a series of pauses that has accompanied the volatile rise in oil prices from $60 last summer and just below $100 at the beginning of the year."
What would drive prices down significantly and very quickly, but not permanently, would be the steady decline in gasoline use by Americans, who consume more than any other nation.
Bush doesn't feel any pain at the pump, nor will he ever. Let's not forget who his family is.
No one is caving on the off-shore drilling issue. This is an election year, no one is that stupid. But wait, Republicans still think homosexuality is a choice and that the Constitution is just "a god-damned piece of paper."
I stand corrected.
Anon,
I am obviously dealing with 2 Anonymous chickens who refuse to make up a name, that's why it is utterly confusing to deal with anonymous people, that's why I suggest making a name.

Yes I believe what I write because I never write a post without backing it up with fact's!
Clueless? Isn't that calling the pot calling the kettle black?
Obviously YOU DO NOT GET IT! The mere mention of us drilling on our own soil for oil and being independent from Foreign oil undermined the "Speculaters!" They know since President Bush lifted the Executive ban on offshore oil drilling they dont have to speculate to far because they see the polls and are aware that 75% of the American Public WANT Drilling in THIS Country! Republicans and Democrats alike. And they know the push for this will come online.
What would drive prices down significantly and very quickly, but not permanently, would be the steady decline in gasoline use by Americans, who consume more than any other nation.

First of all you have China and Europe gussling Oil far more than Americans at this point.
Second, Bush has heard us whine and complain about Congress not sending an energy bill to the President so he can sign it. So through America's eyes and phone calls, he's feeling alot more than "Pain At The Pump"!
Third, Nancy Pelosi and those controlling the New Congress are going to have to cave on this issue because people are starting to see where the problem lies, and it's not with the Republicans in Congress it's with the Democrats.
I guess that's why Congress has a 9% percentage rating! Lowest in History! Hell even Bush and Cheney are more popular than Congress, Holy Crap!
Fourth: What in THEE Hell does drilling for oil in our own backyard have to do with Homosexulatity?
Our Framers never even mentioned homosexuality or Drilling for Oil in the Constitution!
I would love for you to provide a link where they do!
BTW, Since I dont know what Anonymous I am responding to, can you be kind enough to make up a name?
I dont give a rat's ass what it is, just make one up so I know which anonymous I am talking to!
Jesus Christ isn't mentioned in the Constitution either, but you right-wing nut jobs think the Founding Fathers were men of Christian faith.
(Hint: google search "Treaty of Tripoli 1796" and read Article 11...then get back to me)
You're flat out wrong, again! Bush lifting the executive ban HIS FATHER ORIGINALLY SET has absolutely ZEEERRROOOO to do with falling gas prices. Fact.
Your "facts" are really spin cover in wet, dripping BS. But you repuglicans make all kinds of shit up as you go, as the truth really doesn't matter and in the end is merely a simple inconvenience.
The Democrats do not have a voting majority in Congress, yet. After November we will have the House, Senate (more than 51-49, which is not a voting majority) and the White House. Of course, this is all contingent on the Supreme Court not electing the next president, thus underscoring the word "Democracy"; a concept that has vanished under the current regime.
Here's the text from Article 11 of the Treaty of Tripoli, 1796. Until June of 1797 only 3 other pieces of legislation passed with a unanimous vote; this was the fourth.
I knew you wouldn't look it up so I wanted to copy and paste it so you and your Black Shirts can read it together during commercial breaks of Fox News Entertainment.
"Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."
OKAY, I'LL CHECK BACK LATER AND WAIT FOR YOU TO NOT ADDRESS THIS POST AND TO NOT RESPOND TO THE FACTS OF THIS POST AND TO SPIN ABSOLUTELY EVERY WORD I'VE WRITTEN AND BRING UP 43 MORE UNRELATED ISSUES.
Just the fact that Bush lifted the ban sent oil prices down. Imagine what would happen if Congress removed their ban as well?
And we all know it won't take ten years to get new oil supplies online. The people who say it will take ten years said the same thing ten years ago and we'd have that oil by now.
Looks to me like Marie has another of those wonderful libs who claim everyone is twisting and spinning their words to deny their point. But what is clearly happening is that your lib is spinning faster than a Maytag washer.
It's a shame that folks like him are totally obstructing the clear will of the American people and their absolute need to have affordable energy to grow our economy.
We're never going to be able to build the infrastructure necessary for conversion to alternate fuels if the lifeblood of our economy is restricted.
Instead of pour his sorry ego out for hundreds of words in comment sections like this one, I suggest that your lib spend more time writing his represenatative and Senators demanding that they actually DO something to increase the supply of energy as opposed to their current plan which is just to increase the cost with another round of taxes.
Marie: I just did some digging into how long it will take us to get to new supplies of oil once congress gives the nod:
http://mikesamerica.blogspot.com/2008/07/no-excuse-not-to-drill-now-it-wont-take.html
One to two years in some places, longer in others where environmentalists continue to use the courts to block what they won't be able to stop in Congress.
And also in that post I give the link to the National Academy of Science study showing that natural oil seepage pollutes the oceans MORE than all manmade oil pollution and that the U.S. is by far much better at controlling any manmade spills than any other country.
There is no valid environmental or economic reason NOT to drill and drill NOW.
And yes, doing so WOULD have a rather immediate effect on the price.
Your anonymouse trolls are WRONG on all points.
I guess you'll have to take that up with Secretary of Energy Bodman, hand-picked by the Bush Regime. I'm not an environmental nor energy expert.
But I caution you not to discredit anyone in the Regime: by doing so will paint you as unpatriotic and someone who hates America and loves the terrorists.
Anonymous I Love To Hate,
You are just making me yawn with all the junk.
We are going to get the oil and that's all there is to it.
And you wont be able to stop us and neither will the other nitwit Democrats!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mike,
You are right.
We can have it all right in our own backyard. Oil, Wind, Nuclear, Solar, You name it we have it and so help me God we are going to get it no matter how much the Democrat's try an obstruct this.
I havent been able to get over to your post yet Mike, but you are right, in some places it will only take a year or two, in others, a little longer, and the mere mention of us doing ANYTHING to help ourselves will put the speculators on notice.
we can already see what is happening since Bush lifted the ban on offshore drilling, if Congress would lift the ban, watch the speculation plumet!
