Who is your pick, Marie? Big Brown? I wonder how starting from the outside post will affect his chances. I'm sure Desormeaux will run him hard out of the gate toward the rail.

Ortho,

I was thinking Colonel John, but I'm totally confused and not familliar with any of these horses.

I'm on Kentucky Derby . com right now watching the workout's and last races.

But I dont think I have a favorite in this one yet.

Eight Belles' death was so sad. I always hate to see them put down a horse.

I am in absolute shock over this.

A bunch of us all went down to Remmington Park and watched it there.

My son picked Big Brown and Eight Bells, he won.

But everyone was standing looking on in horror after that.

What an awful victory it makes your stomach sick.

All that came to mind was Barbaro.

I just dont know what to say except that was one beautiful horse, and this is an absolute tradgedy.

I think she deserves a post.

BTW, Orhto you had it right from the get go, did you have any money on this, if you did you would have won some duckets!

Marie, did your boy play an exacta? If he did, he had a decent payout.

When I went out grocery shopping I placed a little wager on Big Brown to win. Luckily, I did it early in the day. The computers at the OTB in my area collapsed 50 minutes before post-time. They got back online right at post-time.

Death is a part of horse racing. We breed horses for speed not durability. Each year at least one horse dies or is seriously injured during the meet near me -- Saratoga.

Ortho,

Yes he did, he won 120.00 something dollars.

He kept saying he had a feeling about Eight Belles but who knew that was going to happen?

You can wager at a Grocery store?Dang we have to go to a designated off track betting place or straight to Remington Park.

I know death is a part of this sport but damn, that was just a shock.

I knew it,

I knew PETA and all these other nuts are going to try to get involved.

PETA wants Eight Belles jockey suspended after filly's death

I know one thing if Belles broke both her front ankles BEFORE the finish she would have went down immediately.

There is no way that jockey ran a horse with two broken front ankles to the finish.

And this wasnt like Barbaro where he had one good front leg and unfortunately developed Laminitis in his 3 useable legs while trying to heal the broken one.

When an animal of that size goes down, they wont get back up and thier organs start to go out that's the purpose of putting them humanely to sleep to begin with.

To not let them suffer that kind of pain.

If they break 2 limbs during a race it's useless to try to save the animal again depending on the break itself, they do have slings they can put a horse in once it arrives at the Vet, but nothing to hold the horse up on the way and the horse could suffer more damage on the ride to the Hospital.

I remember when they used to shoot horses right on the track if things like that happened, but now they safley give them a shot and they drift off to sleep.

It's sad, but at least they arent shot in front of a humongous crowd of people.
