Pelosi Warns Patraeus: Dont Give Us Good News On Iraq

Pelosi Warns Petraeus On Iraq Testimony

Underscoring the Democrats’ economic points, Pelosi asked why U.S. military in Iraq and Americans back home are paying more for gasoline than the Iraqis are.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) warned Army Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker on Thursday not to "put a shine on recent events” in Iraq when they testify before Congress next week.

“I hope we don’t hear any glorification of what happened in Basra,” said Pelosi, referring to a recent military offensive against Shiite militants in the city led by the Iraqi government and supported by U.S. forces. (What happened in Basra is Iraqi forces took the lead, some fled, most stayed and defeated the terrorist insurgents although calling in US Airstikes as they have no Air Force DUH!) proving they are getting ready to handle themselves)

Although powerful Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr agreed to a ceasefire after six days of fighting, Pelosi wondered why the U.S. was caught off guard by the offensive and questioned how the ceasefire was achieved, saying the terms were "probably dictated from Iran.”[Notice Pelosi Herself Points to Iran)

“We have to know the real ground truths of what is happening there, not put a shine on events because of a resolution that looks less violent when in fact it has been dictated by al-Sadr, who can grant or withhold that call for violence,” Pelosi said.

Petraeus, the top military commander in Iraq, and Crocker, the U.S. ambassador, will make their return to Capitol Hill on April 8 and 9 to deliver their assessment of the situation on the ground in Iraq.

Story Here
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So no matter what, if there is good news by Patraeus on the Iraq front, the Democrats, especially Pelosi dont want to hear it. We are winning in Iraq and the Speaker of The House Of Representatives doesnt want to hear it because the Democrat party is invested in Failure, Defeat, PERIOD! Well to bad Nancy, suck it up and be a woman about it and when Patreaus gives you some good news, dont argue, just accept this as he knows what's going on there, YOU DONT, he is the commander on the ground and he will tell you what you dont want to hear, despite a few setback's we are winning. Try and be on America's side for once!!
OH BTW, is Move On .Org going to run another Patraeus Betrayus ad?
LOL! Marie, you and I do think alike. Honestly, I just finished putting up a post where I ask the exact same question about the New York Times!
Regarding Petraeus, it doesn't matter what the man says, the Democrats won't believe him anyway.
HerThighness, Barack Hussein, and Pelosi are already calling the surge a failure as they have all along, even before it began even before listening to General Petraeus. So I don’t even know why he’s there? Their minds are already made up.
They don't really know how to ask an intelligent question
In addition regarding DD's last comment, he's exactly right. I have to wonder why the Democrats are even there. They won't listen to reason, their minds are made up, and they have absolutely no respect for either General Petraeus or our military.
Gayle and DD,
Well it's true.
See No Progress, Hear No Progress, Acknowledge No Progress.
Democrat Motto!!
No matter if it's happening or not, it's not as far as the Democrat's are concerned.
At least they have military pesonnel sitting behind the General and the Ambassador while they were testifying. The code pink clowns were shut out just like the democraks. Patreaus makes most of the democraks look like fourth graders.
It'll be a while longer but the surge has worked and the Iraq situation gets better with every day.
If this weren't the case, she'd be saying we are over there "for the oil", LOL. Just can't win with liberals, they seem to have some perverse need to have things both ways.
Hey, ANON, one reason polls on the success of the surge or conditions in Iraq don't amount to a hill of beans is that the input comes mostly from people who get all their "news" from the lefty propagandists of the MSM, who shape their "reporting" to fit the needs of their political agendas.
Marie, I may have to borrow "If there was a way to polish a turd, you would be shining!" ROTFLMAO!!!!
ANON has a lot of similarly misguided kindred spirits out there.
The surge was designed to give Iraqis "breathing room" to reconcile differences and progress towards political and national unity.
If any of you think that has been achieved you are in more denial than Larry Craig is of his homosexuality.
Violence is down. No question. Discounting the last 10 U.S. soldiers who have been killed in the last week, prior to that was an extended period of peace (somewhat). Due in part to our numbers and to paying off al-Sadr to remain in cease-fire the "surge" appeared to work.
Bottom line is that it's not working because Iraq is not working. You can't win an occupation (as it has been quoted by several military experts)
For a country to gain its democracy you cannot back one side and not the other. That's unnatural and it creates in imbalance that undermines any future progress.
This will be the "Vietnam" of this generation.
Federalist,
You still never answered on the post below that the "Million Man March" was indeed and alway's has been orchestrated by Louis Farrakhan, of the Nation Of Islam.
But confronted with fact's I guess it would be hard to answer.
Ok so where are we now?
The surge was designed to give Iraqis "breathing room" to reconcile differences and progress towards political and national unity.
If any of you think that has been achieved you are in more denial than Larry Craig is of his homosexuality.
The "Surge" was designed to send 20,000 more Troops to the Country which your party wanted years ago, and when Bush was going to send them they bocked and bitched and moaned. Even though they were getting what they wanted. They were sent there to restore order to the Country because the situation was getting completely out of hand.
That with the exception of a terrorist bastard attack every once in a blue moon, has been acheived.
Another acheivement, the Iraqi Parliment has passed more Legislation than our own Democrat controlled Congress.
And they are starting from the ground up.
Good one, throw Larry Craig in there who has been convicted of nothing.
Violence is down. No question. Discounting the last 10 U.S. soldiers who have been killed in the last week, prior to that was an extended period of peace (somewhat). Due in part to our numbers and to paying off al-Sadr to remain in cease-fire the "surge" appeared to work.
You dont think the Terrorists (What's left of them) in Iraq watch the Islamic version of CNN? They know what's going on and how to play you fools for what you are worth, so they blow themselves up so we will report it. You havent figured out there game yet? You are SLOW!
Sadr is in Iran. How we are paying him off is beyond me. Nope sorry, the Iraqi's are tired of the shit and turning these assholes in left and right.
Our Troops are training the Iraqi Troops to go in, clear out, and hold positions instead of just clearing and leaving.
Bottom line is that it's not working because Iraq is not working. You can't win an occupation (as it has been quoted by several military experts)
For a country to gain its democracy you cannot back one side and not the other. That's unnatural and it creates in imbalance that undermines any future progress.
This will be the "Vietnam" of this generation.
As I said before The Iraqi Parliment has passed more legislation than our own Congress Iraqi Parliment Passes More Legislation Then US Congress
There are 3 sides to Iraq. Suni, Shia, and Kurd. Not 2 sides, 3.
If you would care to read the DOD briefings and statistics about the infastructure in Iraq, Schools are everywhere WITHOUT Saddam on the front cover of school books, shops are open for business all over Baghdad and all over Iraq in General, People that fled Iraq during the worst part of this war have come home, they are beginning to pump oil and the Iraqi Parliment just passed legislation on how to divide up the oil profits 3 ways, The US and Coalition Soldiers have taught the Iraqi's how to build sewer systems, electricity is on all over Iraq, water flows, the Infastructure is coming back to life.
The infastructure is improving, the Iraqi's are using thier government by all 3 factions, and yes Violence is indeed down.
That is what Victory is suppose to look like.
You and your party are to invested in Retreat and Defeat. Wave the whie flag, surrender, you guy's are a bunch of squealing crybaby wimps. You have no guts, cant stomach a few setbacks and admit there has been steady Progress since Patraeus took over. I thought You on the left had some balls, I was wrong!
There will NEVER be another Viet Nam, not if we have anything to say about it. And alot of us say NO MORE!
LOL...wow.
Here, once again, the facts:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/iraq/2008-03-30-iraqnews_N.htm
Iran played a MAJOR role in brokering a cease-fire agreement in Iraq. Truth. Not only is Nancy Pelosi pointing to that, but 5 billion people who live in reality are pointing to it as well. But on the internet, in the crazy right-wing fascist blogosphere, truth and facts do not matter whatsoever. So, I understand how you would posit that type of ridiculous theory.
So what if Iran assisted in a peace process?? We need help in quelling violence: we don't need help in killing them, we do a fairly good job of extinguishing the lives of Iraqis on our own.
Wait a second? The terrorists blow themselves up so they can get on CNN? Huh? What was that you guys were saying about 72 virgins??
Which is it? CNN or the virgins? Confused...
LOL...blowing themselves up to get on CNN...that should be stand-up material.
Oh wait...protesting the war emboldens the enemy...wasn't that the saying a year ago?
Yeah, tell you what. They're not already pissed off enough. Guess watching CNN and all of those protests really pushes them over the edge to suicide bomb.
Scenario: Ahmed and Yussef are watching CNN while eating Funyons and drinking Mountain Dew. Wolf Blitzer comes on and talks about the war protests and the tough questioning of Petraeus. Ahmed says to Yussef, "Hey bro, I gotta a sweet idea...we could get on TV man! All we gotta do is blow ourselves up in a big crowded place and we'll live in infamy!...what do you say?"
Yussef: "You've had some good ideas in the past Ahmed...but this one is the best by far! How did you get so clever?"
Both strap on their belts which were laying close by and the rest is archived on CNN....
LMAO!!!!
Are you all really that ignorant?
Or once again, am I on candid camera? People should be arrested for having these type of dangerously uneducated perspectives.
Marie, with all due respect, you are in WAY over your head if you think there are only 3 sides to this conflict.
You're like John McSame: everything has to be simple. Not this time.
And lastly Marie...
I'm still disappointed to not read any links stating clearly and without a hint of ambiguity that the Million Man March was a Black Muslim/Nation of Islam event.
You have no evidence, no proof, you lack facts. Another day and nothing has changed.
I'll give you this much Marie: you're incredibly consistent.
5 Billion? Oh C'mon Fed, you know better than that 5 Billion people dont live anywhere together, or it would be a major castostophe.
Jesus we only have 300 Million + people in the USA!
And Iran hasnt brokered a damn thing since they took our hostages in 1978.
Iran is repulsive and whether you like it or not this whole thing began with Iran and will end with Iran.
Does it really matter now? Anything YOUR party says emboldens the enemy. they wish for America to be divided and us beating each other to death because of thier propaganda!
It's late but I'll try again.
I suppose the only one person I see commenting here that is totally ignorant about Iraq is the faux guy. Irainians have to make the peace because they are supporting the terrosists that are fighting the Iraqi army. They were about to be totally annilhilated and the city of Basra turned to dust.That was an Iraqi initiated operation.
When you have to put up as reference an article from USA Today or "as it has been quoted by several military experts" then we should all take out a little time in our day to shake our heads and feel sorry for such a person. The old adage that "ignorance is bliss" is shining on faux guy tonight.
