Putin? Times Person Of The Year? This Is Bullshit!!!

This is really something, Vlad, Times Person Of The Year, My Ass.

Story Here

I think I am going to start my own person of the year.

Marie's Two Cents pick for person of the year 2007 is 'General David Patraeus'.

This man took what seemed like an impossible situation in a Country rampant with Insurgents from all over the Middle East, that wreaked havoc constantly and made life impossible to live on a daily basis for everyone who lived there.

Alot of people fled the Country as not to get thier family blown to bits by Al-Qaeda or influenced by the enemy and are streaming back home now because American and Coalition forces under General David Patraeus control has made that Country 90% stable again and calm is beginning to reign all over the Country, and that Country is Iraq.

The citizens of Iraq under General David Patraeus control work with the US Forces, turn in the enemy, and help to stabalize thier nation. That is called Progress!

The Iraqi Government who is now in the process of stabalizing thier own governing system since violence has almost ceased altogether are making progress.

I dont know anyone more deserving of Person Of The Year besides General David Patraeus for turning a losing situation into a win for the USA, the Coalition Forces and most importantly the Iraqi People.

By The Way, If any of you have a pick for "Person Of The Year", add it :-)

I think Petraeus is the man of the year for sure. No one has had a more positive impact on the news of the year.

I've never really followed the Times Person of the Year, thing. Kinda like Nobel Peace Prizes. So what?

What is the criteria by which they are measuring by? It doesn't mean an endorsement of the man, does it? Just that he's been influential, or something of the sort?

Anyway...

Marie's Two Cents pick for person of the year 2007 is 'General David Patraeus'.

That makes so much more sense! Time Magazine would have benefited enormously had they followed your pick.

General Petraeus is certainly the better choice for Man or Person of the Year. The criteria originally covered who had made the most impact upon the world good or bad. Putin has had an influence without question, but Petraeus has had far more by changing the entire lens through which we view not only hostilities in Iraq, but also how we meet the larger Islamofascist threat around the world.

The only competition the General had was JK Rowling. The incredible influence she has had upon the world's readers has not been seen in a very long time. The fact that millions of people could keep the secret of whether or not Harry Potter died in the end lends credence to the possibility that the conspiracy theories surrounding JFK's assassination are right.

Okay, maybe not, but it does prove that millions of people can keep a secret. I still don't know if Harry dies or not. Will somebody please tell me?!

If I were to choose the top 5 Men or Women of the year (forget that person crap) I would have to say
#1 David Patraeus
#2 Sheikh Abdul Sattar Abu Risha
#3 Nicolas Sarkozy
#4 Dalai Lama
#5 Senator Mitch McConnell

I would have to say these men affected the world in positive way throughout the year 2007.

When it comes to negative influence I would probably put algore at the top of the list and then harry reid, etc... you get the picture.

Time magazine has a tradition of recognizing the man that has influenced the world but does not recognize whether it is a postive or negative influence. In the 1930's Time made Adolf Hitler Man of the Year and then the next year it was Josef Stalin.

I'll call the Woman of the Year just that when one finally makes a positive influence on the entire world. You know that can never be Mrs. Clinton though, she is always going to be in the negative territory because of her partisan divisiveness.

Mike,

I believe General Patraeus deserves Man/Person whatever of the year because I dont think ANYONE made quite as much of an impact on world event's especially for America and Iraq as The Good General Himself :-)

Word,

I think maybe it's America's way of recognizing who made the most of an impact on the world good or bad. Yeah, influential that's a good way to describe it.

I guess it doesnt really mean much, but one year they named the Troops Times Person's' of the year and I thought that was wonderful. But they have also named Stalin, Ayatollah Komeini, and Hitler or Saddam (I forget which) as person of the year.

Sometimes I think the Times is out to lunch. So I dont like thier pick, and I am going to start making my own!

I agree, Time Magazine should listen to me, I have better picks than they do lol.

Indigo,

Welcome to my blog :-)

I'm glad you agree.

As for Harry Potter I have'nt been into any of that really lol so I cant tell you if he lives or not.
