Giuliani Bashes NYT, Hillary, And MoveOn.org

Rudy Giuliani hits N.Y. Times, Hillary Clinton and MoveOn.org

Rudy Giuliani blasted the New York Times, Hillary Clinton and MoveOn.org to the press in Atlanta yesterday.

For Rudy Giuliani, it was the perfect liberal trifecta - a way to slam The New York Times, Hillary Clinton and the leftist MoveOn.org group in one fell swoop.

All Giuliani needed was one bogus newspaper story and $64,575 in campaign cash, both of which the Republican presidential hopeful used yesterday to spawn a bonanza of free publicity in the conservative blogosphere.

In one of the more transparent stunts of the 2008 presidential race, Giuliani began the day by accusing The Times of selling the Democrat-friendly MoveOn.org a "heavily discounted" ad on Monday that cast U.S. commander Gen. David Petraeus as "General Betray Us."

Republican candidates have blasted the ad as an unpatriotic smear of a revered general, and yesterday Republican Giuliani accused The Times, MoveOn.org and Democratic presidential foe Clinton - who has refused to denounce the ad - of engaging in "character assassination."

"What we should move on with ... is a civil discourse without name-calling," Giuliani said in Atlanta - after demanding that his campaign be given the same "discounted rate" to run a pro-Petraeus ad today.

But Giuliani's facts were challenged. Any advocacy group seeking to place a single, full-page, black-and-white ad in The Times on "standby" over a seven-day period - the paper picks the day - pays what MoveOn.org did, $64,575, sources said.

The New York Post reported The Times charges a higher rate, $181,692, setting up erroneous charges MoveOn got a "lefty" discount. But the higher price is for ads guaranteed to run on a specific day, said Times spokeswoman Catherine Mathis.

All of which were details-schmetails to Team Giuliani, which leaped at the chance to hit three of the right's top liberal demons.

"These times call for statesmanship, not politicians spewing political venom," said Giuliani in his ad, just above a Web address for his campaign.

Clinton responded with a statement from her office noting that "Mayor Giuliani supports George Bush's Iraq policy and believes it is working.

"Sen. Clinton knows it isn't and will keep up her efforts to end the war," the statement said.

By the end of the day - with Giuliani's challenge already scoring huge points on conservative talk radio and Web sites - his campaign released its ad. It was unclear when it would run in The Times or how much it cost, but sources indicated it was the same $64,575 as MoveOn.org paid.

Guliani Attacks Clinton In New Campaign Ad

Hillary Defends MoveOn.org
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Way to go Rudy!! Go after ALL of them. That was definatley Character Assasination on Move On and the NYT's part and if I were Patraeus, I would sue! Move On is a real class act arent they? And Hillary, but then Hillary get's alot of money from Move On so she is going to say whatever they want her to say. When are the Democrats going to DENOUNCE this ad?!?!?!
How DARE the same Democrats that accepted him as the General on the Ground In Iraq, praise him and say he is the best man for the job, then turn around an question this Man's Patriotism? And the New York Times running this cut-throat-ad co-sponsoring it! General Patraeus has a BRONZE STAR!! General Patraeus is a WAR HERO!! This is unacceptable and Americans should be OUTRAGED on BOTH sides of the isle that the far left fringe group MoveOn.org has stuped to a new low. General Patraeus didnt deserve any of this, they called him a traitor basically. That man has fought for his Country and is fighting for it now. This is unbelievable. We should all flood the New York Times and MoveOn.org and Hillary Clinton's office with hate mail!!! This whole thing makes my blood boil.
Mrs. Clinton is Move on.org, she sposnsored it from the very beginning in 1998 in an attempt to stop impeachment proceedings. So when you say Move on.org you are saying Mrs. Clinton
The Clintons are just plain despicable people period.
Way to go, Marie!
Yes, send an e-mail to the New York Times and to Moveon.org. I'll do the same. All of us who object to such traitorous behavior should write them. I'm as sick of this crap as you are!
This NYT deal and the way Dems treated Patraeus during the hearings is beginning to have a huge back lash aginst the Moronocrats.
The GOP has a real opportunity to gain some ground here if they will but show some guts and lash out at the Dems for what they have done and not sit back and take it. Kudos to Rudy for standing up to the NYT and also for pshing the issue like I hope the rest of the GOP does.
Patraeus deserved better than this and the GOP needs to stand firm for him ! I too am sending e-mails. Thanks Marie!
Except for the name and the number and kind of medals for bravery under fire, this sounds like someone outraged over the nutjobs who slandered John Kerry.
The Snopes site on the web separates fact from fiction.
I know the people who post here don't believe Kerry was a war hero, but at the same time are howling about MoveOn.org's NYTimes ad questioning Patraeus motives in giving his testimony.
What a crazy world we live in.
Marie, a little off subject- I posted yesterday about the vote scheduled on the 27th to ratify the UN Law of the Seas treaty and today added a post with a link to detail at Newsmax.
We have to get word out about this treaty which Reagan refused to sign seeing it as a threat to US soveriegnty. It is a dangerous presedence that through a treaty we turn over the jurisdiction of the seas to the UN and have top answer to UN tribunals.
Time is short to get this stopped at the Senate! Help get the word out Please!
Joanne said...I know the people who post here don't believe Kerry was a war hero,
Many of the people that served in Kerry's unit are the ones that question John Kerry's service record. I haven't seen a single person that has served with or under General Patreaus come forward and say the General was lying about his service record or questioned the reasons for him earning the Bronze star.
Remember John Kerry's medals were questioned by fellow vets that served in the same unit and had been questioned from the time he recieved those medals by others in his unit. John Murtha earned medals in Vietnam too but no one questions that he did so with valor at the time he served. Murtha became corrupt after he came home and dishonored himself by his corruption and that had nothing to do with his service as a Marine officer.
John Kerry is "persona non grata" with the Navy organizations that make up the modern Special Boat units even before the advent of the Swiftboat ads during the 94 campaign. Now the Riverines are back in service in Iraq. They want no parts of John Kerry and if he showed his face around those groups I can't imagine what the reaction would be.
The telling story is that the troops see the General for the true leader and decent man that he is and would follow him into battle with high spirit anywhere they are sent with him.
Move on dot org is a disgraceful anti American outfit that deserves the condemnation of every democrat that can muster the decency to point out what a disgrace they are.
Oops I meant to say the 2004 campaign not 94 campaign.
Also, it was John Kerry himself that brought the questioning of his medals into the forefront. He claimed he had been this war hero in Vietnam to every microphone that was shoved in front of his face but when questioned about those medals he said he threw them over the fence at the White House in protest then it was just the ribbons he threw and he took every possible position one could take to obfuscate and confuse the whole situation so his whole service record came into question beyond those in his unit that already disputed his merits for earning those medals/ribbons. No one knows for sure what it was he tossed over the fence at the White house and then didn't. Kerry is either a liar or is retarded.
Either way he doesn't or didn't qualify being President of the United States because he doesn't know how to be honest and has the appearence of not being honest and maybe he isn't honest and maybe he doesn't understand the word honest maybe they weren't being honest with him when they awarded the medals. Get the point?
An honest campaign commercial, talk about setting the tone early. With a heaveyweight like Her Highness, you gotta attack early and often and force her to make a mistake.
