Defeat Accomplished!!

Senate Approves Iraq War Funding Bill With Timeline for Troop Pullout

WASHINGTON — A defiant Democratic-controlled Senate passed legislation Thursday that would require the start of troop withdrawals from Iraq by Oct. 1, propelling Congress toward a historic veto showdown with President Bush on the war.

The 51-46 vote was largely along party lines. Like passage of the same bill in the House of Representatives a day earlier, the Senate vote fell far short of the two-thirds margin needed to overturn Bush's threatened veto. Nevertheless, the legislation is the first binding challenge to the war that Democrats have managed to send to Bush since they reclaimed control of both houses of Congress in January.

"The president has failed in his mission to bring peace and stability to the people of Iraq," said Democratic Sen. Robert Byrd, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He later added: "It's time to bring our troops home from Iraq."

The $124.2 billion (euro91.4 billion) bill requires troop withdrawals to begin Oct. 1, or sooner if the Iraqi government should fail to meet certain benchmarks. The House passed the measure Wednesday by a 218-208 vote.

If these assholes win in '08 we might as well invest in burial insurance, because we will be attacked and attacked again and again and they will send us back to a 9-10-01 mentality. How is this considered a defeat in a war that was unconstitutional/illegal from the very beginning?

Gee Anon,

If it was Unconstitutional you would have thunk the Democraps would have found a reason to get rid of Bush by now!

But it wasnt, they cant, and deal with it.

No, it IS unconstitutional. The Members of Congress who voted for giving Bush the power to start war is illegal. Anyone who voted for that should be impeached for violating their oath of office.

Ok Anon,

Giving you the benefit of the doubt what part of the Constitution decalring war after the United States has been attacked are you seeing that is Unconsitutional?

US Constitution: Article I, Section 8:

"The Congress shall have the power to Declare War"

No where does it say they can do what they've been doing. Hell, they do alot of crap that's unconstitutional. The federal government in general absolutely tramples the 10th Amendment which gives individual states the power to decide what's best for that state. Instead we are increasing having shift towards a gigantic Federal government and weak state governments. The Federal government is ONLY allowed to do what is expressly given authority to do within the Constitution. The founders did that on purpose to preserve liberty and keep out a strong central government, something (until the past 7 years) conservatives have traditionally supported.

I think Real is another real nutjob Ron Paulian. I watched that moron on some late show on Fox last week after I got home from being out with girls. It's amazing that he approves of having a system of government at all. Ron Paul would have us at the mercy of every plundering nation of the world to prove his miniscule and irrelevant points about the US Constitution as his real follower does. You live in a fantasy world pal.

Yo realannoyance, I went to your blog and found that the substance of your blog is about the same as the substance of yours and Ron Paul's arguments. You don't know anything about the constitution and how it works, how it was written and what they had in mind along with the presendents set by the very individuals that wrote the constitution and later had to govern by it. You're basically clueless as is Ron Paul, one of the surrender 17.

But I'm not the one supporting unconstitutional practices. Judge Andrew Napolitano says Bush is done more harm to the Constitution than any President since Lincoln. Why would he lie? He has no reason to make such things up out of thin air.

You say I'm clueless without providing any data to back that up. Please, give me and/or Ron Paul your best shot. How exactly do we not know anything about the Constitution?

I'm fed up teaching you kids the constitution. How come you don't learn this stuff in your history/social studies classes.

Principles have to take into consideration practical realties with sources that aren't constrained by a constitution. War is one of those realities whether you like it or not.

'barking moonbat': someone who sacrifices sanity for the sake of consistency"

Why don't you be a responsible person and get a blog so we can come over and point out where you are wrong with every word you write.

"fed up w/ teaching the constitution"?

- You've yet to provide any examples to where myself or Ron Paul are wrong on the Constitution.

Principles have to take into consideration practical realties with sources that aren't constrained by a constitution.

- By that rationale there is no boundaries and a government can do whatever they want with no checks and balances. I don't think the founding fathers were wanting that to happen otherwise they would've included that in their writings.

You haven't made any comments worth responding to now get back to your history books and read supreme court decisions and read post presidential Jefferson writings and for goodness sakes get a clue!
