Ha ha ha! It's always funny to watch people in the warmer regions of the country react to snowfall, no matter how light it is! I was in Lubbock Texas in 1984 when they got a light dusting of snow. The entire town was crippled! Most of the residents had never seen snow in that part of the country in their lives. That same winter storm actually brought 19 inches to San Antonio! It only stayed on the ground for a couple of days but while it was there, the reaction was hilarious.

Marie, just because you're having snow in Oklahoma, and there's snow in Calif., it doesn't mean there is no global warming. If you want to try to understand what's happening, here:

A few other issues are worthy of comment in the context of this discussion. A canard that has already been trotted out by climate change contrarians (and unfortunately parroted uncritically in some media reports) holds that weather in certain parts of the U.S. (e.g. blizzards and avalanches in Colorado) negates the observation of anomalous winter warmth. This argument is disingenuous at best. As clearly evident from the figure shown above, temperatures for the first month of this winter have been above normal across the United States (with the only exceptions being a couple small cold patches along the U.S./Mexico border). The large snowfall events in Boulder were not associated with cold temperatures, but instead with especially moisture-laden air masses passing through the region. If temperatures are at or below freezing (which is true even during this warmer-than-average winter in Colorado), that moisture will precipitate as snow, not rain. Indeed, snowfall is often predicted to increase in many regions in response to anthropogenic climate change, since warmer air, all other things being equal, holds more moisture, and therefore, the potential for greater amounts of precipitation whatever form that precipitation takes.

The overwhelming majority of climatologist worldwide accept that we are experiencing global warming. Of course, you'll find some scientists to refute this. But the operative words are "overwhelming" and "scientists."

Al Gore is right. And not just on global warming.

algore is a complete moron and he wouldn't recognize an ice cube if it hit him in his wooden head. Gosh Mrs. Green I thought you had more sense than to listen to someone that is as stupid as algore. algore sits on the board and owns a major stock portfolio in one of the enviromentally destructive companies in the world, Occidental Petroleum Ultimate Hypocracy

Not to mention Mrs Green, that most scientists are brow beat into claiming this global warming story is real or their universities are denied funding for research grants from the government. One real scientist is not afraid to walk tall and speak the truth, TruthAlways wins in the End

There's a lot to be said about keeping our enviroment clean and I am all for that, I'm a sportswoman and I spend time fishing and I love clean water to drink and clean air to breath but this effort to co-opt the enviroment for political gain is insidious to say the least. Wake up and open your eyes and understand the issues from an educated view instead of a spoon fed demadumb view Mrs. Green you're smarter than that I thought.

jg, we can have a disussion on this, but you need to back up your claims with evidence:

Not to mention Mrs Green, that most scientists are brow beat into claiming this global warming story is real or their universities are denied funding for research grants from the government.

Why would the Bush administration, which has been in office 6 years and has placed their people in most of the government's agencies, brow beat scientists into claims of global warming? I thought the Bush administration did not consider global warming as real?

MIT, which can boast 63 Nobel Laureates who graduated from that prestigious institution, apparently disagrees with your characterization of Al Gore as a "complete moron."

If you go to this MIT website, you'll see it links to his critically acclaimed "An Inconvenient Truth."

http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2005/hurricanes.html

I believe MIT would be very careful of its reputation and NOT align itself with "morons." I believe MIT is more interested in scientific fact and not in people who are blinded to evidence by their partisan hatreds.

Sorry Mrs. Mean, but if I want to understand something, I'd hardly listen to the rantings of an ignorant, brainwashed witch.

Or perhaps I'm being too hasty and you can tell me how many years you've worked for the Environmental Protection Agency. Maybe we know some of the same folks there.

Marie: Isn't it funny: If it;s too hot, it's because of global warming. If it's too cold it's because of global warming. If there are too many hurricans, global warming. Too few hurricanes global warming.

The only thing we know for sure is that some lefty will claim that nearly every weird bit of weather is caused by global warming. And not just ANY global warming, but MANMADE global warming.

And now of course they have to threaten Scientists and Meterologists who disagree with the loss of jobs or grant funds and tenure at Universities.

Mrs. Mean is a perfect example of the global warming gestapo. Nothing to what they say but a bunch of HOT AIR. And if she would only shut her yap once in a while the earth would cool dramatically.

jg,

Apparently Scotland doesn't share your characterization of Al Gore:

Scottish schools to show climate change film

Tim Clark
Thursday January 18, 2007
EducationGuardian.co.uk

The film about climate change, An Inconvenient Truth, made by the former US vice-president Al Gore, is to be shown in secondary schools in Scotland as part of a new learning initiative unveiled today.
The Scottish executive, through Learning Teaching Scotland and Scottish Power, is to develop and deliver a package of education materials, based around screenings of the documentary, to help pupils in Scotland understand climate change.

Speaking at the Al Gore "What our future holds" event in Glasgow, environment minister, Ross Finnie, said: "Scotland takes climate change seriously. Since meeting Al Gore in September and watching An Inconvenient Truth at its first screening I have been considering ways in which the main messages about climate change could be embedded into and future learning education in Scotland.

Well let's see Mrs Green. What is your evaluationof algore's actions instead of his word's such as being a major stockholder in a enviromentally destructive company? It's bit hypocritical to own part of something you are railing against and doing nothing to improve or change it's operations.

This global warming issue is politically driven and not scientically driven that's what tells me there is something wrong with this whole movement.

Please back up what you are saying with hard scientific evidence. I know that would be hard to do because the same MIT anti American Nobel laureates will tell you there is no hard scientific evidence of global warming caused by human action. The reason for that is it is nothing more than a theory and old wooden head is just a mantra repeater for his own political and monetary gain and has no understanding of what he repeats.

algore may not be the total moron as it seems because he has been able to fool so many pewople into paying their hard earned money to go see a movie that has no value or hard science to back up any of his claims. If not a total moron, he certainly is totally corrupt and totally morally bankrupt.

algore also fooled a nation with the anti tobacco scam. If there is one person that profitted from tobacco it was algore and his family and when the profits were down his handlers came up with a way to make money from suing tobacco manufactures and relieve them billions of dollars into the algore coffers. After algore got his huge cut then the greedy state governments poured that had been extorted into wasteful government spending programs.

RJ,

Haha Love the link to Grease with Al Gore.

Mrs Green,

Until I see scientific proof that Manmade Global Warming is actualy taking place I think Al Gore is full of crap!

I recently saw a documentary on the History or Discovery channel I forget which one, that did have Scientific eveidence that the Earth tends to cleanse itself every several thousand years or so. That's what I really think is going on.

Couple that with This Article about dessenting Meteorologist's point's of view at the Weather Channel, and how much money is being dumped into this so called "Project" to investigate whether or not there is Global Warming at all, and this whole thing to me is a bunch of Malarki.

And now Pelosi want's a special investigative panel on all this that I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR and it's getting irritating.

Al Gore lost his mind long ago, it's time to lock him up.

Interesting that Al Gore won't debate Bjorn Lomborg.

Mrs. Green, I respectfully appreciate your opinion on this matter; but I remain unconvinced and skeptical, given other instances of scientific alarmism that never came to pass.

Global cooling is one of those, that comes to mind. That was what we were all supposed to fear about 30 years ago. Whatever happened with that?

Actually...living in Los Angeles, we're experiencing unusual cooling right now.

Al Gore is right. And not just on global warming.

Word,

You must be trippin about now lol

Snow in Malibu got me. I may be an Okie now but I grew up in LA. And that must have been a site to see for real.

I have lived in Oklahoma 15 years now and this from what I have heard is NOTHING. This kind of thing happens here about every 20 years or so give or take a few years. It's just the first I have seen it since I have lived here. We have had snow alright, but this is rediculous.

My dad warned me that when he was stationed here (He was in the Army during the Korean Conflict) in Lawton that this was the coldest and the hottest state he was ever in lol. HE WAS RIGHT!!!! And my Mom and Dad came from Illinois and Tennessee.

My parents still live in Cali, Torrance area, and they think 40 degrees is cold, but having grown up there I know 40 degrees is cold for Cali. It's a different kind of cold than we get here. This is bone chilling.

It's a damn shame alot of the crops in Cali got lost. But I still swear it was an Artic blast that isnt done yet.

It happens, the Earth tries to cleanse itself, and Global Warming to me is overrated. I do believe we should do all the good things to try to improve our environment, but really, what good is it going to do if the rest of the world wont comply?

Anyway I know I'm rambling on here, just a quick note to say that I still believe Al Gore needs to be put away lol.

Peter Schweitzer, Al Gore, and hypocrisy
Posted by David Roberts at 1:36 PM on 17 Aug 2006
About a week ago, USA Today published a piece by Peter Schweitzer, who's a research fellow at the Hoover Institution. It accused Al Gore of hypocrisy, for asking viewers of An Inconvenient Truth to scale back their lifestyles and carbon emissions while ... well, there were a number of charges. According to Schweitzer, Gore owns three homes and stock in Occidental Petroleum, still receives royalties from a zinc mine on his property, does not participate in the green-power option his utility offers in Nashville, and lets Paramount pay for his carbon offsets.
As per standard practice, the conservative media machine spread the charges far and wide -- most recently they popped up on Glenn Beck's show on CNN and, bizarrely, in a recurring poll on AOL's homepage.

Gore's communications director, Kalee Kreider, sent a letter to the editor to respond to the piece, but we all know only a fraction of the folks who read the original piece will read the letter.
First things first: I talked to some of Gore's people today, including Kreider, about the specific charges. Suffice to say, they're false. Gore receives no royalties from the mine, which shut down in 2003. (USA Today actually printed a correction about this, way down on page 10A.) Gore owns no stock in Occidental, and never has (his father did; it was all sold over six years ago). Gore does in fact take advantage of the green power options his utility offers, and was in the process of adding photovoltaic solar cells to his house when the article came out. He pays for his own personal carbon offsets, in addition to the institutional offsets purchased by Paramount (movie distributor) and Rodale (book publisher), which make both the book and the movie completely carbon neutral.

Sorry. You’re just wrong here. The Union of Concerned Scientists agree that global warming is real: Who are they?

http://www.ucsusa.org/

And this:
IPCC is not alone in its conclusions. In recent years, all major scientific bodies in the United States whose members' expertise bears directly on the matter have issued similar statements. For example, the National Academy of Sciences report, Climate Change Science: An Analysis of Some Key Questions, begins: "Greenhouse gases are accumulating in Earth's atmosphere as a result of human activities, causing surface air temperatures and subsurface ocean temperatures to rise" [p. 1 in (5)]. The report explicitly asks whether the IPCC assessment is a fair summary of professional scientific thinking, and answers yes: "The IPCC's conclusion that most of the observed warming of the last 50 years is likely to have been due to the increase in greenhouse gas concentrations accurately reflects the current thinking of the scientific community on this issue" [p. 3 in (5)].

Others agree. The American Meteorological Society (6), the American Geophysical Union (7), and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) all have issued statements in recent years concluding that the evidence for human modification of climate is compelling (8).
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/306/5702/1686

Do you honestly believe these scientific associations would destroy their credibility on global warming? These prestigious scientific organizations agree with Al Gore, and that's because they base their conclusions on evidence, not political hatreds, as you do.

They are not accusations about algore they are hard facts and no amount of political manuevering is going to disprove the plain facts. The tax records for algore speak for themselves. algore is a hypocrite.

As many so called scientists that try and exploit the unwashed masses for political gain there are hard working truthful scientist that disagree with the junk science that is being used to try and control the masses with this huge lie.

Joseph Goebbels would be pround of the "green" movement of today because they have taken his mantra of "say a lie long enough and loud enough and the people will eventually believe it to be the truth" He would be proud.

What is this "huge lie" you speak of? Global warming? There's no question that we are experiencing it. The debate is about what is causing it. Surely you understand that.

And again, I offer you this fact. MIT and all the other named organizations in the scientific community that support the claim that we are experiencing global warming would hardly risk their reputations on "junk science." They are people you and your sources disagree with. That in no way detracts from their authority or credibility on the subject.

Dear Uncle P.,

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Human-caused global warming is here -- visible in the air, water and melting ice -- and is destined to get much worse in the future, an authoritative global scientific report will warn next week.

"The smoking gun is definitely lying on the table as we speak," said top U.S. climate scientist Jerry Mahlman, who reviewed all 1,600 pages of the first segment of a giant four-part report. "The evidence ... is compelling."

Andrew Weaver, a Canadian climate scientist and study co-author, went even further: "This isn't a smoking gun; climate is a batallion of intergalactic smoking missiles."

The first phase of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is being released in Paris next week.

This segment, written by more than 600 scientists and reviewed by another 600 experts and edited by bureaucrats from 154 countries, includes "a significantly expanded discussion of observation on the climate," said co-chair Susan Solomon a senior scientist for the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Also, I understand that Mr. Bush will speak on global warming in tonight's State of the Union speech. Do you think he'll say it's all a left-wing conspiracy?

I don't. It'll be interesting to hear what he says. And if he does acknowledge the reality of global warming and Mankind's contribution to it, will you think that he's gone over to the Dark Side?

Ok, let's suppose that climate change really is being caused by human industrial and transportation activity, and not by volcanoes, cows, what have you.
Let us suppose further that the best way to change the climate of the planet is to impose restrictions on the use of fossil fuels.
(I don't agree with either of these ideas, but we're just supposing.)
Leaving aside the fact that the global climate change debate is really about controlling the weather, something that humans have never been able to do, there are some questions that aren't being asked.
Why then, do all the restrictions of the Kyoto Protocols seem to be directed against the United States, Japan and western Europe, with no restrictions on China, India, Brazil, North Korea, Russia and so on?
And even if we did everything that Turki al-Gore wants us to do, exactly how much would that help? Would we have five more years in a century? Ten, maybe? And how many tons of greenhouse gases come out of volcanoes, anyway?
Could it be that it's not about changing the climate to some hypothetical pristine state that existed before the coming of the eeeevil white man, but just a grab for power and money by supranational organizations and enviro-fascists?
Hey, I'm just askin'.
