Calif. Republican Asks Pentagon to Remove Embedded CNN Reporters
SAN DIEGO, - The chairman of the House Armed Services Committee asked the Pentagon on Friday to remove CNN reporters embedded with U.S. combat troops, saying the network's broadcast of a video showing insurgent snipers targeting U.S. soldiers was tantamount to airing an enemy propaganda film.
The tape, which came to the network through contact with an insurgent leader, was aired Wednesday night on "Anderson Cooper 360" and repeated Thursday.
In a letter to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., wrote: "CNN has now served as the publicist for an enemy propaganda film featuring the killing of an American soldier."
The letter was also signed by San Diego-area Republican congressmen Darrell Issa and Brian Bilbray.
"This is nothing short of a terrorist snuff film," Bilbray said at a press conference held in San Diego.
CNN producer David Doss wrote in a Web log Thursday the network televised the footage in an effort to present the "unvarnished truth" about the Iraq war.
In one instance, the tape shows a uniformed member of the U.S. military milling in a public area with Iraqis. A shot rings out. CNN fades the screen to black before the result - described as a victim falling forward - is visible.
Hunter said he hasn't received a response from Rumsfeld.
A Pentagon spokesman said Friday he didn't know whether Rumsfeld had seen the letter.
"The department takes this very seriously and will look into the matter and respond accordingly to the member in due course," said Lt. Cmdr. Chito Peppler.
CNN officials defended their decision to air the footage.
"Our responsibility is to report the news," said Laurie Goldberg, a CNN spokeswoman. "As an organization we stand by our decision and respect the rights of others to disagree with it."

CNN CAN GO TO HELL. We have assumed for sometime now that CNN was the equivilent of the Communist News Network, now they have PROVEN it. Not only is CNN Aiding and Abetting the enemy, they have now put our Soldiers at Grave risk by airing "The Enemy Video Snuff Film". There was NO News Value to this, as a matter of fact this was "Yellow Journalism". CNN has proven they WANT America to LOSE the war, give Coverage to the TERRORIST'S, and DESTROY our Troops Morale. HOW DARE CNN AIR THIS CRUD!!! I wouldnt doubt that CNN is partly to blame for alot of US deaths in Iraq in the month of October with thier Terrorist Supporting Journalism. I'm with Duncan Hunter on this PULL THE CNN EMBEDDED REPORTERS if they are going to give Aid and Comfort to the Enemy! As our Enemy has already stated "They CANT Defeat us Militarily, all we can do is break the will of the American people"!!

I heard at first that it was Al-Jazerra that filmed it and re-brocated it on CNN. Then I heard what you said on your blog that it was CNN crew that filmed it.
It is one thing to broadcast one thing from a foreign news agency, but if it were an American filmers that filmed U.S. soldiers being killed, it is a complete abomination.
Too many of our servicemen/women have been killed to show such disrepect.

They are claiming they recieved this tape from someone delivering it to someone to air it. And they recieved it. AND THEN THEY AIRED IT! What the hell were they thinking?
I have heard the same thing you said, I heard someone else filmed it, I have heard CNN filmed it, I am not sure anymore who filmed it but CNN AIRED it! Traitors!!! That's all I can think of to say about CNN!

CNN has been notorious over the years of political bias they used to deny it but not for some years now.
From my comment on the your post before this one Marie I mentioned about CNN not showing bodies falling from the Trade Towers. Their reason for not showing the clips of the people jumping from the windows of the WTC is they said it was too disturbing for them to air.
Is showing Muslim extremist snipers shooting American soldiers less disturbing or not as people jumping to their deaths from an attack by Muslim extremists. The answer is; they are oth very disturbing but they are being manipulated and used as advocacy jounalism. Meaning Bush is at fault for snipers killing American soldiers and that our troops should be pulled from Iraq. That is how CNN works.

And no one seems to be doing anything about any of these people. They are litterally getting away with "Murder" and we are taking it. What can we really do though? We throw a fit, we write our congresspeople, we make phone calls, and nothing!
I am out of ideas. No one is listening to us. I guess we have one thing left that we can do, VOTE! Vote for the people that CNN, the New York Times, and the ACLU, doesnt want in office.
They go out of thier way to make sure we hear and read the ugly, and NONE of the good. Republicans must be doing something right to have this many people ticked off!
