Sometimes We Have To Be Reminded

Thought you might be interested in this forgotten bit of information..........
It was 1987! At a lecture the other day they were playing an old news video of Lt.Col. Oliver North testifying at the Iran-Contra hearings during the Reagan Administration.

There was Ollie in front of God and country getting the third degree, but what he said was stunning!

He was being drilled by a senator; "Did you not recently spend close to $60,000 for a home security system?"

Ollie replied, "Yes, I did, Sir."

The senator continued, trying to get a laugh out of the audience, "Isn't that just a little excessive?"

"No, sir," continued Ollie.

"No? And why not?" the senator asked.

"Because the lives of my family and I were threatened, sir."

"Threatened? By whom?" the senator questioned.

"By a terrorist, sir" Ollie answered.

"Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?"

"His name is Osama bin Laden, sir" Ollie replied.
It was Abu Nidal Ollie was refering to not Usama.

At this point the senator tried to repeat the name, but couldn't pronounce it, which most people back then probably couldn't. A couple of people laughed at the attempt. Then the senator continued. Why are you so afraid of this man?" the senator asked.

"Because, sir, he is the most evil person alive that I know of", Ollie answered.

"And what do you recommend we do about him?" asked the senator.

"Well, sir, if it was up to me, I would recommend that an assassin team be formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth."

The senator disagreed with this approach, and that was all that was shown of the clip.

By the way, that senator was Al Gore!
It was not Senator Gore, it was Commitee Councel John Nields

Also:

Terrorist pilot Mohammad Atta blew up a bus in Israel in 1986. The Israelis captured, tried and imprisoned him. As part of the Oslo agreement with the Palestinians in 1993, Israel had to agree to release so-called "political prisoners."

However, the Israelis would not release any with blood on their hands, The American President at the time, Bill Clinton, and his Secretary of State, Warren Christopher, "insisted" that all prisoners be released.

Thus Mohammad Atta was freed and eventually thanked the US by flying an airplane into Tower One of the World Trade Center . This was reported by many of the American TV networks at the time that the terrorists were first identified.
It was censored in the US from all later reports.

Either way if had they had listened to Ollie alot of deaths could have been prevented from any of the Terrorists Ollie named!

Marie...I hate to be the one to inform you, but better you hear it from me than from some roving moonbat on the prowl: this is an urban legend.

Well I am stumped. I have been googleing this and some articles say yes Ollie said Usama and some say no. On Hannity and Colmbs just a few months ago they played a portion of Ollie's testimony, and I thought he did say on Hannity that it was Usama. But from further digging I found out it was Commitee Councel John Nields doing the questioning and Ollie's answer was not Usama but Abu Nidal.
I tend not to believe snopes because they lean very far left.
I think I will write Ollie and get it straight from the horses mouth!

Hmm...I've never really seen Snopes as somehow partisan. If you look up various urban legends on President Bush, you can find confirmations of positive stories on him. I remember quotes that were ascribed to President Bush, which were in fact, never said by him, but apparently were gaffs by Dan Quayle.

Lot of weird stuff floating around out there.

Let me know what else you turn up.

Just to remind you:

The worse attack on American soil happened under Bush's watch and 9 months into his administration.

Why didn't he use his supposed extra-constitutional powers to electronically eavesdrop without warrants on the incoming calls then?

Why did Bush decide to do it after the attacks? He grabbed the power to spy on Americans after, why didn't he use it before the attack and prevent the slaughter?

The page-and-a-half section of the President's Daily Brief from 6 August 2001, headlined "Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US," had generated the most contentious questioning in last week's testimony by national security adviser Condoleezza Rice before the commission investigating the September 11th attacks. Dr. Rice continued to insist that the Brief did not amount to a real warning, while several commissioners seemed to think otherwise.

"In a single 17-sentence document, the intelligence briefing delivered to President Bush in August 2001 spells out the who, hints at the what and points towards the where of the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington that followed 36 days later."

The American people can decide for themselves about the warning quotient, now that the text of the Brief is public. Even with the text, we don't really know what the President knew and when he knew it.

According to the CIA and the 9/11 commission, there were 40 other mentions of Al Qaeda or Bin Laden in the President's Daily Briefs before 9/11. Most of those presumably came during what Dr. Rice called "the threat spike" of June and July 2001. The August 6 Brief came on the downside of that spike, so the other PDB reports may be more (or less) alarming.

CBS Evening News had broken the story on the evening of 15 May 2002 that President Bush had received a briefing only weeks before September 11th mentioning the possibility of hijacking by Bin Laden.

Shaw, and just to remind you:
By President Clinton not taking ANY action toward Bin Hidin at all during his entire administration maybe there wouldnt have been a Sept.11!
There are no "Supposed" powers that the President had/has the authority to wiretap phone calls comming into this Country from Al-Quaida, it is the law. No matter how much you want to overlook it.
Now on this one point we may agree, had every President including Jimmy Carter kept wiretapping going through every single administration since, we may have prevented alot of things, like the 1993 WTC bombing, Kobar Towers, The Marine Barracks in Beiruit, Lebanon, the USS Cole, etc. But would ANY of them gotten the authority from Congress to do so without us being attacked first? I highly doubt it. We have always been able to monitor what is going on OUTSIDE the US without being attacked on US soil first, remember Chatter, that was picked up before 9-11? We had known since 1993 that Bin Laden was determined to attack us, it was the when and the where that stumped everyone. Is this really the attitude you guys on the left want to take? Playing around with out National Security is NOT a stand on which I think is wise for either party to take! It is deadly! The President HAS the authority to find out what the heck is going on from some freaks in another Country to this one, let the man do his job! It's worked well for 4 and 1/2 years! But it could happen again, and now that the New York Times (I hope they are hung out to dry on this one) has given the enemy a "Head's Up" on this whole matter, it probably will. God help us all.

I'm confused now. Who censored the Mohammad Atta blew up a bus story in the United States?
If the government can't stop the New York Times from printing the NSA intercept story, how did do it?

Ok, I thought the Mohammed Atta blew up a bus in Israel story sounded familiar. same name, different guy.
No wonder the story got quashed.
