Well That Was Interesting

I guess the Liberals had the chance to put up or shut up last night when Lawmakers forced a vote for immediate troop withdrawl from Iraq.

WASHINGTON

House Republicans maneuvered for swift rejection Friday of any notion of immediately pulling U.S. troops out of Iraq, sparking a nasty, sometimes personal debate over the war following a Democratic lawmaker's own call for withdrawal.

Just a day after Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., stoked a surging political fire over President Bush's Iraq policies by proposing that troops return home now, Republicans brought a measure to the House floor urging that a pullout begin immediately.

The symbolic vote was intended to fail, and furious Democrats accused the GOP of orchestrating a political stunt.

"A disgrace," declared House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. "The rankest of politics and the absence of any sense of shame," added Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the No. 2 House Democrat.

Republicans hoped to place Democrats in an unappealing position _ either supporting a withdrawal that critics said would be precipitous or opposing it and angering voters who want an end to the conflict. They also hoped the vote could restore GOP momentum on an issue _ the war _ that has seen plummeting public support in recent weeks.

"We want to make sure that we support our troops that are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. We will not retreat," Speaker Dennis Hastert, R- Ill., said of the nonbinding resolution.

Democrats claimed Republicans were changing the meaning of Murtha's withdrawal proposal. He has said a smooth withdrawal would take six months. Democrats said they planned to counter by voting against the GOP provision en masse.

At one point in the emotional debate, Rep. Jean Schmidt, R-Ohio, told of a phone call she received from a Marine colonel.

"He asked me to send Congress a message _ stay the course. He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message _ that cowards cut and run, Marines never do," Schmidt said. Murtha is a 37-year Marine veteran.

Democrats booed and shouted her down _ causing the House to come to a standstill.

Rep. Harold Ford, D-Tenn., charged across the chamber's center aisle screaming that Republicans were making uncalled-for personal attacks. "You guys are pathetic! Pathetic!" yelled Rep. Marty Meehan, D-Mass.

Democrats gave Murtha, a decorated Vietnam War veteran with close ties to the military, a standing ovation as he entered the chamber and took his customary corner seat.

The fireworks, as lawmakers rushed toward a two-week Thanksgiving break, came just days after the GOP-controlled Senate defeated a Democratic push for Bush to lay out a timetable for withdrawal. Spotlighting questions from both parties about the war, senators approved a statement that 2006 should be a significant year in which conditions are created for the phased withdrawal of U.S. forces.

Murtha has proposed his own resolution that would force the president to withdraw the nearly 160,000 troops in Iraq "at the earliest practicable date." It would establish a quick-reaction force and a nearby presence of Marines in the region. It also said the U.S. must pursue stability in Iraq through diplomacy.

The Republican alternative simply said: "It is the sense of the House of Representatives that the deployment of United States forces in Iraq be terminated immediately."

"It's a pathetic, partisan, political ploy," said Rep. Nita Lowey, D- N.Y. Added Rep. Ellen Tauscher, D-Calif.: "It's just heinous."

"This is a personal attack on one of the best members, one of the most respected members of this House and it is outrageous," said Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass.

Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, however, said the resolution vote was not a stunt. "This is not an attack on an individual. This is a legitimate question."

"They've been itching for a fight for a long time," Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., said of the Democrats.

Bush, traveling in Asia, also fired back at his critics, saying a troop withdrawal would be "a recipe for disaster."

Most Republicans oppose Murtha's call for withdrawal, and some Democrats also have been reluctant to back his position.

Aware of the scene unfolding across Capitol Hill, Sen. John Warner, R- Va., chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, appealed for "bipartisanship on the war in Iraq, instead of more political posturing."

A growing number of House members and senators, looking ahead to off- year elections next November, are publicly worrying about a quagmire in Iraq. They have been staking out new positions on a war that is increasingly unpopular with the American public, has resulted in more than 2,000 U.S. military deaths and has cost more than $200 billion.

"Our troops have become the primary target of the insurgency," Murtha said Thursday. "They are united against U.S. forces and we have become a catalyst for violence. The war in Iraq is not going as advertised. It is a flawed policy wrapped in illusion."

A U.S. field commander in Iraq countered the position of the congressman who usually backs the Pentagon.

"Here on the ground, our job is not done," said Col. James Brown, commander of the 56th Brigade Combat Team, when asked about Murtha's comments during a weekly briefing that American field commanders give to Pentagon reporters.

Anyway the vote turned out to be 403 against and 3 for the pullout of troops in Iraq. As a matter of fact John Murtha voted against his own bill!!
So it was time to call the screaming Democrats on thier own game and they didnt even back it up.
You would think this would put an end to the Reckless, White Flag waving, Liberals spouting off every time they open thier mouths, "Our Troops Need To Come Home NOW!"
But lastnight they proved they dont even believe thier own agenda, and are now furious that they had to put up or shut up.
I wonder what the rest of the 30 coalition countries are thinking about all this?
Not to mention the troops!
Liberals have become an embaressment to our allies.
But now can you Liberals just be quiet about all this and let our troops finish the mission they set out to do?
I doubt it!!!

403-3. Only three true moonbats stepped up and put their money where their mouths were. The rest of them "cut and ran".

And the best news of all is that Iraq's President just said that troop withdrawal talks will begin at the end of 2006.

He's calling the shots, not the libertards.

Republican Vet, you know what's interesting President Bush said the very same thing months ago, that after the December 15 elections in Iraq, would be the beginning of troop withdrawls starting in 2006!!! How easily the Liberals pretend this was THIER plan! If the Liberals or the American Public in General would have ever paid any attention to what President Bush said to begin with they would have understood that WAS the plan! Why is it so many people do NOT get what the plan has always been? I have known, I am not the most (Caught up on current events) person there is but I understood what our President said the plan was LAST YEAR!!!!!! Since the Beginning! I dont understand the Liberals, when we do withdraw troops next year, you watch, the liberals will swear THEY forced the President to withdraw our troops when that was our President's plan all along!!!
Liberals are playing politics with our troops morale, and thier lives. Setting an exact date for withdrawl would be disasterous, and I thank GOD our President wont be pinned down to a date.
I dont know what it will take for the American Public to realize President Bush has had a plan all along, I understood it, I am not a rocket scientist! I am sure most of the American Public understand the plan. But it's like you have to repeat and repeat what the withdrawl plan is to the Liberals, and they will sure as hell take credit for a plan our President had to begin with!!!!
Lunatic Liberals!!!!!

I hope that you don't think this is spam. I really do think that you'd appreciate a site like this since we share the same idealogy. Hopefully you like it enough to blogroll :)

If you want know how Bush and his cronies manipulated pre-war Iraqi intelligence in order to justify his preemptive invasion of Iraq, you need look no further than the speech he gave Sunday justifying our continued presence there. In his speech, the Liar-in-Chief claimed that "more than 50 [Iraqi battalions] are taking the lead [in fighting the current insergency]." Clearly, he wished to give the American people the impression that these battalions were operating on their own, fighting for their country. But in fact, according to Pentagon reports, only 1 battalion (approximately 600 men) is capable of action independent of US support. (Source: http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-troops19dec19,1,6386049.story?coll=la-headlines-nation)

Bush also quoted an ABC/Time Magazine poll that claimed that 7 in 10 Iraqis say their lives are "going well" and 2/3rds expect things to improve.

This, as Paul Harvey is fond of saying, is the rest of the story from that same poll:

--Fewer than half of Iraqis — 46% — say their country was better off than it was before the war

--50% say it was wrong for the United States to invade in 2003

--2/3rds say they opposed the continued presence of U.S. troops

--Nearly 50% say they would like to see U.S. forces leave soon

Clearly, anyone capable of going before the American people to attempt to mislead them the way Bush did Sunday is equally capable of misleading those in his administration, misleading Congress, and probably misleading himself into believing that all is well in Iraq if we just "stay the course" and not listen to "defeatist" i.e.: those of us trying to get the truth out. An objective look at the facts mean nothing to this individual.

Lynn, I feel ashamed that you are in the same state as I let alone the same city. First of all your poll numbers are way off, and if polls were correct Kerry would be President. God help us all. Your feeble attempt to tear apart this President and his administation by calling him Liar-In-Chief is so misguided and deluded no wonder you constantly lose elections. With that mindset you will continue to lose. You also have a lot of nerve considering your party consists of War Criminals, X-Klu Klux Klan members, and Murderers. And not to mention Slick Willy, correct me if I am wrong but he was impeached wasnt he? It's always ok for Your party to go to war Bosnia/Kosovo comes to mind. I didnt see you people out protesting when Clinton sent us there, and we have been there more than 10 years.
You say our President lied us into this war, you are wrong. If he manipulated intelligence then so did Clinton, Great Brittain, Israel, France, Germany, Russia, Poland, Japan, and 30 coalition countries that are side by side working with our Armed forces in Iraq. Same old arguement, everyone knows Saddam had WMD, the real question is what did he do with them? You and the rest of the world know that he used them on his own people and the Iranians, there was a connection with Al-Quaida BEFORE we went into Iraq or Zarqowi wouldnt have gone to Iraq for a leg operation after we blew his leg off in Afghanistan, Saddam's troops in the field left behind gas masks as they were fleeing as we were comming in and we were finding them along the way to Baghdad, gee I wonder why they were there? He threatened to use gas on our troops when we entered the "Red Zone" now known as the "Green Zone" in Baghdad but he never got the chance. You better hope we find those biological and chemical weapons or as soon as some freak like Zarqowi does he will use them on US. My guess is by other intelligence reports (Not ours) was that the weapons were moved to Syria. We all better hope that isnt true but I do believe unfortunately that it is true. And you know as well as I do that WMD was NOT our only reason for going to Iraq. The UN (Ugh) resolution 1441 site's all 17 reasons, read it sometime. I am not going to do your homework for you. But this crap about Bush Lieing us into war is unfounded and will never wash and it's time you on the left give up this strategy of squacking, crying and moaning about us being there for a lie. Like I said I guess Clinton lied about that too not just about Monica! Not to mention YOUR cohorts on the left in the House and Senate voted for us to go to Iraq! And they saw the SAME intelligence as the President did BEFORE we went there so dont lie and say the President mislead congress and the American people when you obviously dont read enough to know all the facts. Now you and they want to cut and run and leave that country to fall completely into the hands of terrorists, that isnt going to happen no matter how much you whine and moan. Even Hillary Clinton says we cant cut and run. Do you even know anyone in Iraq? Have you ever talked to anyone in Iraq? I have and they are very grateful that they are free and not under the threat of being poisened by a madman every second of every day. The elections in this past year and all the purple fingers prove that point. There are approximately 160,000 Iraqi troops, some fighting alone and some that still need our help. There are more of thier troops than there are of ours! Of course they will need our help in some areas, but as they grow stronger and take on more resposibility we stand down and let them have at it. Pretty soon not overnite they will be in control of thier country and we can come home. But you know all this. You should sign up for DOD e-mail if you want accurate accounts of what is going on in Iraq and Afghanistan. Or go straight to CentCom located on the sidebar of this page. Reading and gathering facts can be very helpful when trying to accomplish what point you are trying to make. If all you have is this false notion that our President lied and manipulated intelligence and that is your stategy boy are you in trouble. Not to mention mentally disturbed over the defeat you achieved in the 2004 elections. I know this has sent you all over the edge but you are in such a panic now without a plan, without a stategy for success for this Country, without any clear vision it is unreal and quite unsettleing to see you people lose your minds. This plan you seem to have on the left of trying to paint our Commander-In-Chief as a liar is clearly misguided, and makes you all look like lunatics that are still crying over the 2004 election. I would come up with a different strategy if I was you people, but then again why would I want to help you Lunatics? Keep up the good work!!!
