Louis Freeh Charges 9/11 Commission Cover Up

Former FBI Director Louis J. Freeh slammed the 9/11 Commission Thursday saying it ignored – or "summarily rejected" – the most critical piece of intelligence that could have prevented the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001.

Writing in the Wall Street Journal's opinion page, Freeh gave a blistering review of the Commission and says new revelations indicate it is "a good time for the country to make some assessments of the 9/11 Commission itself."

The former Bureau Director, who resigned his position just months before Sept. 11, 2001, points out that the U.S. government had learned of the identity of Mohammed Atta the year prior to the attacks. Atta was one of the ringleaders of the group, and piloted an American Airlines plane that slammed into one of the Twin Towers.

Freeh recounts that military intelligence operation code-named "Able Danger" concluded in February 2000 that military experts had identified Atta as an al-Qaida agent operating in the U.S.

"Subsequently, military officers assigned to Able Danger were prevented from sharing this critical information with FBI agents," Freeh writes. "Why?" he ponders, suggesting the failure to share such intelligence may be a smoking gun pointing at federal malfeasance in the case.
Freeh maintains that the Able Danger intelligence, if confirmed, is "undoubtedly the most relevant fact of the entire post-9/11 inquiry . . . Yet the 9/11 Commission inexplicably concluded that it "was not historically significant."

Two members of the House, Curt Weldon (R-Pa.) and Dan Burton (R-Ind.), have reported that shortly after the 9/11 attacks they provided then-Deputy National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley with a "chart" displaying pre-attack information about al-Qaida that had been collected by Able Danger.

But a spokesperson for the White House said that "a search of National Security Council files had failed to produce such a chart."

The final 9/11 Commission report, released on July 22, 2004, concluded that "American intelligence agencies were unaware of Mr. Atta until the day of the attacks."

Writes Freeh: "This now looks to be embarrassingly wrong."

Maybe we need another commission to look into the 9-11 commission!!
I alway's thought the Liberals were covering up for Bill Clinton's mistakes.

Hi Marie, like the blog.

As to Freeh, I wish he would have talked more about this from his FBI perspective, since he was in charge at the time. My guess as to why this has been shelved is because Able Danger was digging up data they weren't legally allowed to, like against US citizens. The only other explanation would be it exposes the US government to lawsuits for bungling 9/11. If this was purely something they could get Clinton with, they'd have already done it.

BTW, living in Ok City, is Jayna Davis still there and digging into the bomb connection story?

Thanks.
I think you may be right on some of this, but my guess also is they are done with Able Danger and are able to talk about it now that Clinton is out of office, but it still doesnt answer for me why we persist on covering Clinton's tracks.
You would think with Sandy Berger stealing from the National Archives that we sure wouldnt be covering a damn thing for Clinton.
I think there is plenty we could get Clinton on and it doesnt include sexual conduct in the Oval Office. It's just strange to me that nothing is ever mentioned about Clinton knowing or at least his administration, with all that happened to us in his administration, the USS Cole, for instance the WTC Bombing in 1993, and so on, that he nor any member of his administration are ever brought to the attention of anyone that during his time in office this stuff happened and nothing has been done about him, but they take it all out on Prez Bush!!!
I dont know if Jayna Davis still lives here, but yes she is relentlessly persuing the OKC bombing and has some more interesting news concerning the Iraqi connection, yes I said it, the IRAQI connection! Here is a great read of a website if you wish to explore it, it's explosive... Pardon the Pun..
http://www.terroristmotel.com
I swear it ties the Iraqi's, Al-Quaida, Tim McViegh the whole mess of them together. But no one but those who lived here and experiencxed that day will probably ever "Get It"!
Maybe you will since you seem to be a clear thinking individual!

It's confusing as to why Clinton is allowed to run amok. Now he's saying the Iraq war was wrong (like Carter, they always say this crap in foriegn countries). This guy has some major league gall. You mention the 1993 WTC attack. If it was successful it would have been worse than 9/11. Clinton knew that. Why didn't he aggressively go after Bin Laden? Why didn't he put the country on a war footing then? What he did do is continue to pressure Saddam, which begs the question as to why. And I agree the Sandy Berger thing is bizarre. Why did the repubs let him get away with it?
Someone has the goods on someone else.

As to Davis, I've read some of her stuff. I think the biggest smoking gun is Terry Nichols trips to the far east when Yousef and KSM were there, and they were expert bombmakers. If you want another event that was covered up try looking into the TWA800 crash. That's one of the biggest coverups ever. Yeah, tin foil hat stuff to some, but they make more common sense than the conspiracy garbage about 9/11.

You should change the name of your blog to: Maries Two Cents, A far Wrong point of view.

Oh an on you little 9/11 banner you should add: "The Bush administration ignored all the warnings that this would happen and then had dinner with the prince of the nation who staffed this terrorist mission" after "Never Forget",

Just a thought.
