What is there either in this woman's record or resume to elicit such feline ferocity?

That she was a mother of five who had brought into this world a baby boy with Down syndrome, thus living her Christian beliefs.
That she was a small-town conservative who had risen from mayor of Wasilla (Pop. 9,700) to be governor of a state twice the size of Texas.
That she was a reformer who had dethroned an Old Boys' Network by dumping a sitting Republican governor.
That she had taken on Big Oil, taxed the companies and returned the money in $1,200 checks to every citizen of Alaska.
And that she had cut a deal with Canada to build a pipeline to bring natural gas to her fellow Americans.
And, oh, yes. She was "Sarah Barracuda" -- a fierce high school athlete, a runner-up in the Miss Alaska pageant, a Feminist for Life and lifetime member of the NRA.
Introduced by McCain, she praised Hillary Clinton and pledged to finish her work by smashing through the glass ceiling in which Hillary had made 18 million cracks.
What, in any or all of this, is there to justify the feral attacks within minutes of her introduction? What had she done to cause this outburst?
Answer: absolutely nothing.

Sarah Palin is not resented for what she has done, but for who she is: a Christian conservative who believes unborn children are gifts of God, even those with birth defects, and have a God-given right to life.

She is Middle America.
Barack, behind closed doors in San Francisco, mocked Middle Americans as folks left behind by the global economy who cling bitterly to their Bibles, bigotries and guns.

Palin runs a state that is home to anti-missile, missile and air defense bases facing the Far East, commands the Alaska National Guard and has a soldier-son heading for Iraq.
Barack, says the National Journal, has the most left-wing voting record in the Senate, besting Socialist Bernie Sanders.
Palin's stances read as though they were lifted from Reagan's 1980 "no pale pastels" platform.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. government employees received improper gifts from energy industry representatives, and engaged with them in illegal drug use and inappropriate sexual relations, according to a report issued Wednesday.

The report was issued by the Interior Department's inspector general after a $5.3 million investigation "uncovered recreational marijuana and cocaine use" by "a handful" of Interior Department staff, and found two federal employees "engaged in brief sexual relationships with representatives from companies doing business" with the department.
Two Interior Department employees "received combined gifts and gratuities on at least 135 occasions from four major oil and gas companies with whom they were doing business -- a textbook example of improperly receiving gifts from prohibited sources," Inspector General Earl Devaney says in a letter to Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne accompanying the report.
Randall Luthi, head of the Minerals Management Service at the Interior Department, said the public had not suffered financial losses as a result of the employees' behavior.
Some of the government employees tried to hide their close association with the industry they were supposed to be regulating, the report says.
The investigation turned up e-mails in which MMS employees "preparing to attend industry events used such language as 'this trip is to be kept quiet,' or were asked to RSVP 'in private' by their supervisor," the report says.
"When we asked we these one of these employees why they needed to avoid discussing their social activities with industry, he responded with a slight chuckle, 'They might have, you know, contacted the [inspector general],' " the report says.
The investigation appears to have been prompted by an internal whistle-blower's report in 2006, and concerns activity from 2002 to 2006 by the department responsible for selling the oil and gas the government collects as rent from companies drilling on federal lands.
The report alleges inappropriate behavior by 19 members of the Royalty in Kind program -- about one-third of the department. Some have since left the department, making it unclear what kind of disciplinary action they could be subject to.
The Department of Justice declined to prosecute two former employees named in the report, the inspector general said, without saying why. Another pleaded guilty to a criminal charge.
Department of Justice spokeswoman Laura Sweeney said the department did receive "one or more referrals related to matters referenced in the Department of Interior inspector general reports," but she declined to comment further.
MMS head Luthi said only "six or seven" employees named in the report still work for the department. He vowed appropriate action by the time he leaves office in January.
Democrats used the report to accuse President Bush's administration of being too close to the oil industry.
"The Bush administration put an 'America for Sale' sign on the White House lawn from day one and has been courting Big Oil ever since," Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-New York and chairwoman of the House Rules Committee, said in a written statement. "Democrats have been saying it for some time, but this proves it. This administration is literally in bed with Big Oil. Little did we know they were such a cheap date."
Sen. Bill Nelson, a Florida Democrat, said the report should make Congress reconsider plans to expand offshore drilling.
"The rest of the United States government doesn't need to jump in bed with" the oil industry, he said.
"Offshore drilling will not solve our energy crisis nor will it bring down prices at the pump," Nelson said. "Instead, it will enrich the oil companies and reward the culture of corruption that has been fostered, funded and now exposed by the inspector general."
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, said in a statement:
"This report documents the 'pervasive culture of exclusivity' that has cheated the American taxpayer out of the billions of dollars owed them by the oil companies," Pelosi said.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-California, called the allegations in the report "unacceptable."
House Minority Leader John Boehner, a Republican from Ohio and an advocate of easing drilling rules, said that in 2006, "our members on the Government Reform Committee were investigating this problem in the department."
"Our members of the last two years ... have been pushing [current] chairman [Rep. Henry] Waxman to continue this investigation and to have hearings and he's refused to do it," Boehner said. Waxman is a Democrat from California.
Two oil companies mentioned in the report, Shell and Chevron, declined to comment, saying they still needed to review it.
A third, Hess, said in a statement: "We do not believe we are the focus of the investigation and we will cooperate with any further requests from the inspector general's office that may arise."

John McCain hath decided he would like to spend the media cycle talking about the Cone of Silence, and thus Andrea Mitchell getteth taken to the woodshed by Rick Davis today.
But the more interesting McCain story du jour regards a moving tale he recounted at the Saddleback event, about the time he spent in North Vietnam -- the "turning moment" in his captivity where a prison guard wordlessly drew a cross in the dirt.
Yes, I'm touched too. But as Andrew Sullivan notes this morning, McCain managed to leave this pivotal emotional event out of his 1973 biography.
A hauntingly similar story was told by Solzhenitsyn in his 1973 Gulag Archapelago:
"Leaving his shovel on the ground, he slowly walked to a crude bench and sat down. He knew that at any moment a guard would order him to stand up, and when he failed to respond, the guard would beat him to death, probably with his own shovel. He had seen it happen to other prisoners.

The difference is, in wake of Palin's lipstick comment and the amount of media spotlight on it, unless Obama is truly dense- and I don't think he is- he had to have known that his usage of that phrase would draw connotations. At the least, it's a double entendre. That's the difference between Obama's usage and the context of McCain's.

Bungled War? It's called AN INSURGENCY that we were not expecting and only George Bush and John McCain lead the effort to send MORE Troops "The Surge" that has completely turned the war around, caused the "Sunni Awakening", trained Iraqi Troops to take back thier own Country, and have handed 10 out of 18 Provinces of Iraq back into Iraqi Hands! A war which we are NOW WINNING, that if YOUR party had the choice we would have retreated and our Soldiers would have come home with thier heads held low instead of thier heads held High!
It's YOUR Party that we had to FORCE and make constant phone calls to them and say "We want the Surge" and they had no choice but to listen to US, The Republican's and yes even some Democrat's.
Oh and yes let's not forget BOTH parties voted FOR going to Iraq to begin with. Then YOUR party had the Audacity to send the Troops there and threaten NOT to fund them! How the hell stupid is that?
No one is bribing anyone NOT to shoot at the Troops, it's called Training Iraqi's to handle thier own country, putting the Iraqi's to work in reconstruction and opening schools, hospitals, rebuilding thier country, and the Iraqi's getting sick of Al-Qaida's shit, and the OUTSTANDING job our Troops have done! But NO Let's not give our Troops any credit, NO! they are just baby killers as far as you idiot's are concerned.
You have no faith in our Troops! You simply dont give a rat's ass. Well we would rather lose an election than lose the war! But that's the difference in The Republican's and Democrat's, we Respect and honor our Troops and want them to come home with the Honor and respect they deserve, YOU dont! Dont pretend to care either after the remark you made about "The Bungled War", as if the Troops screwed up. What an asshole you are.

And, yes, the U.S. is paying the insurgents not to shoot at the U.S. troops. Look it up. It's why the surge has "worked."
Code Pink has done more for the troops returning home than most groups. Look it up. They are part of the reason why the injured military personnel are not having to pay for their meals and telephone calls at Walter Reed. Show me one documented incident of CP spitting on a soldier. Just one. Show me one situation where a CP member didn't show respect to a soldier. Just one. You guys just make things up.
I have total faith in the troops. I think for the most part they are noble men and women, proudly upholding the American tradition. It's the bunch of idiots commanding them I have no faith in.

There has been one disaster after another in the last 7 years if you dont recall, we were attacked, had to rebuild, had to pay the families of the victim's, had to put all the systems in place so we wouldn't get attacked again, had to make a whole new dept. The Dept. Of Homeland Security, had to go to war, had 2 hurricane's and probably another one, I mean do I have to draw you a complete picture? This stuff cost's MONEY!
And if we could drill in our own damn backyard we could get off foreign oil and not be dependent on Countries that think they can terrorize us with oil prices beyond belief!
Hey I'm all for everything. Drill here drill now, wind, solar, whatever it takes to get out from under the middle east stranglehold on us. But Congress is going to have to be pressured to do something about it. And on this topic I mean BOTH SIDES! All of 'em!

CNN) – Former Rhode Island Sen. Lincoln Chafee was known for keeping a low-key profile on Capitol Hill, but the Republican -turned -Independent is making waves with his exceedingly blunt comments on newly-minted Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin:
She's a "cocky wacko," he told a Washington think tank earlier this week.

Chafee, the lone Senate Republican to vote against the Iraq war who endorsed Obama's White House bid earlier this year, told an audience at the New America Foundation in Washington Tuesday that Palin's selection has energized Obama backers.
"People were coming into my office, phone calls were flooding in, e-mails were coming in, 'I just sent money to Obama, I couldn't sleep last night' — from the left. To see this cocky wacko up there," he said.
He also described McCain's candidacy as "lackluster” and described the selection of Palin as a throwing "this firestorm, this tornado, into the whole presidential election."
