Paper: North Korean Missile Targeted Hawaii
North Korea targeted waters near Hawaii when it fired a long-range missile this week, a Japanese newspaper reported Friday.
The long-range Taepodong-2 was part of a barrage of seven missiles test-fired by North Korea on Wednesday. They all fell harmlessly into the Sea of Japan, but South Korean officials said the long-range missile had malfunctioned, suggesting it was intended for a more remote target.
Japan's conservative mainstream daily Sankei said that Japanese and U.S. defense officials have concluded that the Taepodong-2 had targeted the U.S. state of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean, after analyzing data collected from their intelligence equipment.
The newspaper quoted unidentified Japanese and U.S. government officials.
The officials decided that the missile was pointed at Hawaii from its angle immediately after launch and the altitude it reached, after analyzing data collected by destroyers equipped with the Aegis radar combat system and RC-135S electronic reconnaissance aircraft, the newspaper said.
It said the findings support a belief North Korean intended the launch as a protest over U.S. economic sanctions against the isolated regime.
But Pentagon officials said Thursday that the brief flight of the Taepodong-2 missile made it difficult to collect useful technical data, including its intended target, its payload and whether it was a two-stage or three-stage missile.
Some U.S. officials were even leaning toward the theory that it was configured as a space launch to deliver a satellite into orbit, rather than as a flight test of a ballistic missile.
Japanese Defense Agency refused to confirm the Sankei report.
The Taepodong-2, North Korea's most advanced missile, has a range of up to 15,000 kilometers (9,300 miles) and believed capable of reaching parts of the United States with a light payload.
Hawaii is about 7,000 kilometers (4,350 miles) southeast of North Korea.
The daily said it was not immediately known why Hawaii was targeted, but added that analysts believe Pyongyang might have tried to demonstrate that the missile could reach the United States, or because Hawaii is home to the headquarters of the U.S. Pacific Fleet.
North Korea might have avoided targeting Alaska because of a risk that the missile could mistakenly hit a land area in that route, the report said.

Dandy!!! If the missile wouldnt have blown up 40 seconds after launch, and had we not intercepted it, it would have hit Hawaii. It is seriously time to consider taking out ALL of North Koreas Launch Pads that way they have no way of fireing anything at South Korea where we still have 30,000 troops! (Not to mention US) And/Or Arm Japan! The last thing China or North Korea want is a fully armed Japan! Maybe then the Chinese will get the Chia Pet under some form of control!

UPDATE: Not Only does North Korea have 3-5 more missiles on the launchpad fueled and ready to launch but it appears they are loading up more Taepodong-2 missiles capapble of reaching the United States

Do you ever wonder why we didn't invade NK first? They've been waving their damned nukes at us for years, and now they got one that can actually hit us: Iraq didn't even have one that could hit its neighbor. I'm glad I live in the center of the dang country, who wants to blow up Missouri? LOL Oh, and as for Lieberman and Hillary, the liberals who will actually VOTE on election day don't give a damn about either of them, Independent or Dem, Joe Blow never had a snowball's chance in hell.
Ellie,
Because until recently he (Chia Pet) only "Claimed" he had nukes.
North Korea is the most impossible place to find out what is going on there, no one can infiltrate them and the only ones who can get a grip on the N. Koreans is China or Russia and neither one seem to be doing alot. You cant see what they are doing from any of our satelites because everything they do is underground.
No one really knew for sure until the last couple years that he even had such an advanced Nuclear Program.
Until The UN Weapons Inspectors and the IAEA went in and checked them out, and before you knew it Chia Pet throws them all out of the Country!
President Clinton and Chia Pet had talks in 1994, Clinton offered Chia Pet money, goods and services and other things if he would not persist in his Nuclear program.
Chia Pet says: "Ok Mr. Clinton and Thank's", and turned right around and under our noses and since 1994 has been sneaky, dirty, and underhanded and was building Nuclear crap practically right after Clinton and Chia Pet had thier "Talk".
If we had taken more drastic measures in 1994 or 1998 they probably wouldnt have a Nuclear Capability now.
We have to take threats out BEFORE they reach the "Deadly" status.
Instead of talking to the N.Koreans in 1994 and 1998 and not offering them a damn thing, and taking out thier launch pads then, instead of making deals and all kinds of other crap with them we wouldnt be in this mess now.
We cant talk all nicey nicey to Lunatics!
In other words as far as we knew Chia Pet was all talk until a few years ago, and Iraq was a gathering threat. We cant afford any more in this day and age to let these Lunatics become more insane to where they are a threat to our Nation.
We are gonna have to deal with them one by one or sometimes two by two, sometimes covertly, sometimes overtly, but we have to fight this war against all the Lunatics out there that are out to harm the US.
And we have ourselves a real Pickle now because Chia Pet wasnt seriously dealt with in the 90's.

As for the middle of the Country lol, we arent that safe remember Tim Mcviegh and My City Oklahoma City? And the way we have been busting terrorist groups (Homegrown and others)They are comming from all over, California, Florida, Oregon, Georgia, Ohio, Illinois, etc., I mean we are busting them everywhere and at this point? Thank GOD for the Terrorist surveillance plans that we have been able to track them with and bust thier asses!

As for Hillary and Joe, It's a damn shame about Joe Lieberman, he is a dying breed of Decent Democrats. Not so far out there that he is gone and not comming back like the Kennedy's, Murtha's, Kerry's, Pelosi's, etc.
Liberman was a great Democrat I think and it's a damn shame the far left of his party are dropping the only decent Democrat they had.
A real shame.
Oh well maybe hope isnt over for Joe yet!
I remember OKC well, my uncle was injured in the next building after being transferred last second there before the place was hit--he died of his injuries 2 years later
As for Joe-head, the unfortunate thing about party politics is that dems have their set values, repubs have theirs, and anyone who doesn't quite match up equal isn't par for the course. McCain I loved for a long time until recently. I'm an indie, I have values across the board, but Joe lost my vote.
Ellie,
I am so very sorry for you and your families loss.
You are correct Dem's have thier minds made up Reps have thier's,
and you Independants are probably going to benefit from all of this.
I mean how much can the people caught in the middle take? lol
