Inauguration Day

It's Your day Mr. President. And you wear it well.
Dont pay any attention to any of the nay sayers about how much this costs and crap like that, they never mentioned how much it cost for Clinton's second Inaugural when we had troops in Kosovo.
Our President throught history has been the closest thing to Royalty we can get in this Country.
I'm sure the Gipper is looking down with a big grin on his face. You have done the Gipper proud!!!!!
Go get em President Bush!!!

Well, I am glad to be the first to respond to this dribble. When you run a surplus in Gov't spending as President Clinton did what you spend should be monitored as well as when you run trillion dollar deficit. Yet, other Presidents through out history have either eliminated or toned down Inaugural Balls, look at FDR, Truman, Carter, and others, during times of national turmoil and need they spent less.

As for Royalty why would we want to have anything close to that? I thought we fought two wars to free ourselves from the tyrannical rule of royalty. See this exerpt from the founding fathers:
"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain [George III] is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States."

So let us celebrate who we are and not compair to the other forms of government that we have long rejected. Unless of course, you prefer that form of government. As you well might, if W. were the king.

The Gipper may be looking down but dont be so sure he is smiling. He knew the art of international politics in a way that established America's policies with out alienating our allies. But in this post 9/11 era we have taken the stance if you arent for us you must be against us. Alas, we are not God and we are fallable so until we become perfect being against some of what we do may be the right and moral thing to do.

Just some food for thought. I relish your response to my counter dribble.

You seem to have forgotten President Clinton Inherited a "Surplus" from President Reagan which was carried on through Bush 41, and then carried on through Clinton.
The reason I said he (PB43) shouldnt scale his Inauguration back is for one because Clinton had us at war with Kosovo and you didnt see anything scaled back for his second Inaugural. But besides that point, what kind of a message would it send to those who hate us and want us dead? We scale back and the terrorists who tried like hell to destroy our economy and kill us on 9-11 would have said "Yeah For Our Cause" and I for one would rather not give them that kind of satisfaction. I would rather see them seeth than us give them what they want. Not to mention PB43 was cheated out of his first Inaugural, he didnt get all the Pomp and Circumstance he would have had, had they had more than 3 WEEKS to plan, due to the constant recounts by Gore. And us not finding out for almost 2 months who our President was. But besides that having witnessed alot of Inaugurals, I thought this one was scaled back quite a bit, except for the Balls which were privately funded but that's another issue. And CARTER? Please!!! Carter was a terrible President, but a wonderful Humanitarian AFTER he left office. That was of course before he sat next to the biggest crackpot of all time at the Democrat National Convention Michael Moron.
And as for Royalty, you completly missed the point I was trying to make, There is Royalty without brutality in several Countries. Not just Great Briton.
I was talking about the "Majesty" and "Beauty" of an un-Tyranny Royalistic view. Not the likes of King Henry the 8th and so on.
And as for the "Gipper" and our "Allies" I KNOW the Gipper was smiling down on our President because just like the Gipper, he doesnt take any guff! And we werent attacked under the Gipper administration! If we had been, there would have been hell to pay for attacking America with the Gipper as well as PB43!!!
I dont see it as, we have alienated ourselves from our allies, a couple of our allies alienated themselves from us. In fact we have gained 2 new ones besides the other 63 countries involved in the war on terror (Not all of whom are in Iraq). But I suppose you dont condider Briton, Poland, Portugal, Italy, Japan, Austrailia, Ireland, Scotland, etc., and our 2 new ones Iraq, and Afghanistan of any importance!
And You are Right! We Are Not God! But for some crazy reason other countries have tried to make us into the world police! Which I do NOT agree with. I dont think our President does either. You notice he put great emphasis in his address "When YOU find your OWN voice, America will stand with you". Speaking about the other opressed countries in the world.
Now as for the deficet: Oh Boy!!! 4 buildings or 5 I forget now were totaly destroyed in New York alone on 9-11 WTC1,2,7,and 5, at least tumbled to the ground that day, the heart and soul of our trade, businesses,etc. Not to Mention The Pentagon. And on any given day what was it? 25,000 people per tower were employed? And lets just say (I dont have my facts in front of me for Tower 5 and 7) But lets say maybe 10,000 in each of those towers, that's oh 70,000 so far, then 200? people in the Pentagon that lost thier lives,
and approxamately 50-75 people aboard all 4 planes that crashed, (Screw the Terrorist Hijackers) That's a rough estimate of about 70,200-70,500 people that lost thier jobs that day! Not to mention the 3000+ that lost thier lives. How much would YOU have spent to get us back up on our feet after an attack on our Country? The money it took to Recover the bodies, remove the rubble,Rebuild what they could, have funerals,etc. and get our country back to at least a stable footing again COSTS MONEY!!!
You are damned right when our President said "You are either with us or against us, and ANYONE who aids and abbeds the terrorists are just as guilty as being a terrorist". We didnt ask for this but we sure as hell are going to finish it!
Who is the FIRST country everyone cries to for help when they are attacked? The USA. Who is the first Country everyone cries to help them in a humanitarian disaster, actualy we offer to most first for humanitarian aid, but once again it is the USA. Who has decided that we are the leader of the free world? OTHER COUNTRIES!!!
Anyway I know I am going on or as you call it dribble, but there is food for thought for your dribble also!
But all in all I think the Inauguration went quite well dont you think?

It would seem that you are a little hostile over my commentary. I am sorry it drove you to cursing. It would seem that you conservatives have an issue with anger and cursing.
Well on to business. Yes, I forgot that Reagan was secretly running the government during the entire Bush one administration. I also was remiss when I underestimated the far reaching effects the economic policies had on the 4th year of President Clintons administration. I seem to recall the economy was in decline PRIOR to 9/11 - that would be on Clinton but at the time of his second inauguration there was a surplus. The same economic forcasts and indicators have been in effect for over 25 years and all of them show that President Clintons term was one of the most prosperous in this nations history.

As for the tragedy of 9/11 and its economic impact. There were billions taken out of the economy that hindered the growth of this country. BUT when you take a comparison of financial loss compaired to say the crash of 1929 or even 1987 you will find that 9/11 was less of the Gross National Product than either of the prior two stock market crashes. I will not comment on the loss of life for that cannot be valued in the loss to this counrty. SO should W. have been consious of the money spent on the various publicly funded parties?? I answer with a RESOUNDING YES!! As should have President Clinton. BUT it seems you missed that in my first response.

I am going to ignore your comment on W. was ripped off on his first election. The American public was ripped off. I watched on C-Span as then Vice-Presedent Gore upheld the standard of the Constitution when he refused the recount on the floor of Congress because no Senator would sign the petitions. Gore has disgraced himself with his public behavior after leaving office. Yet, on one day in December of 2000 he upheld his office and the Constituion.

As for President Cater, one of three Nobel Peace prize winning Presidents, his administrations only failure and his as a polition was that he was too honest for the job. His honesty handicapped that admisitration. But by your standards his economic failures should be contributed to President Nixon.

Oh and your royalty rebuttle was sad at best. PLEASE, name one Monarchy that is more than window dressing, who has not commited human rights violations against their own people. Saudi Arabia??? OK in Saudi you, Marie, couldn't even speak in public much less have a BLOG.

Speaking of Saudi Arabia they are one of our allies also. Cool I want to move there so I can trade a goat for a wife and visa versa. We have lost allies and the two new ones you claim we have cannot be such. No matter what spin you put on it they are both OCCUPIED territories at best. 10 years from now IF we have normalized relations with these two countries I will consider them true allies. But remember as long as we maintian close ties with Isreal we will never have the full support of the arab community. And in my opinion we should never stop supporting Isreal.

As for the US being the leader, the police, the relief fund for the world, wake up we have been that since WW2. This is nothing new and W. comes to the party 50 years after we took the world stage and 10 years after we took sole possesion of it. So stop crying about it and move on. Presidents have dealt with this for over a generation and most have done a better job than W. and only one has done a worse job possibly. But that is MY opinion on who did the job better it isn't fact.

As for the pomp and circumstance of the day it was fine. I was glad to see Alec Balwin have the class to go and not leave the country. It was good to see everyone come together to celebrate the Democracy we have in this country. In the long term what I am afraid will become of this second term is the launching into a church-state form of govt that will place us further at odds with the remainder of the world.
